The Bills visited the Patriots in Week 1 of the 2022 season. Leading off with an AFC East division game saw everyone’s nerves high but everyone got into the flow of the game quickly.
This game would be Jameis Whitfield’s first NFL start as QB1 as a rookie out of Texas. He put on a strong showing, going 15 of 19 passes with 339 yards and 3 TDs throw the air. He also added 10 carries for 69 yards and another 3 TDs. All of this allowed him to capture his first offensive player of the week for the AFC. The offense was also bolstered by a decent performance from Thurman Thomas with 10 carries for 104 yards.
On the defensive side, Tremaine Edmunds put on a strong showing with 3 tackles, 2 INTs, 1 INT TD, and 1 Forced Fumble, enough to earn him defensive player of the week for the AFC. The defense also got contributions from Tyus Bowser and Tony Jefferson both causing forced fumbles and Tre’Davious White getting in on the action with an INT.
The final score ended up being 56-13 in favor of the Bills. Going into week 2, the Bills stay on the road and visit the New York Jets, which will be another tough AFC East divisional opponent. The Jets made some strong off-season moves to bolster their team and help out second year QB Brett Favre by adding WR Davante Adams, rookie HB sensation out of TCU K’Lavon Waynes, and rookie WR Connor Hardison out of Oregon State. It should be a good matchup for both teams and set the stage for the rest of the season.
