Cardinals 2020 Draft Class

Free agency is a way for teams to add a few pieces that they think will make a difference in the future but there is nothing like drafting talent to your team. Molding these young collegiate talent into the perfect players for your schemes and hoping that they become the stars you intend them to be. THis year's Arizona Cardinals draft class has a couple of players that we expect to be the future leaders of the team.

1st Round Pick 12 Thadeus McCullough MLB UCLA :

McCullough was the top player at his position in the draft for the Cardinals. Inside linebacker was a clear position of need for this team and the big run stopper shoudl be a force in the middle of the field. Playing alongisde veterans such as Buchannon and Hasson Reddick should provide him with more than enough experience to lean on while he becomes accustomed to the physical and faster game in the NFL.

1st Round Pick 24 Quinston Martin DT USC:

Quinston Martin did not expect to see himself drop all the way to the end of the 1st round but the Cardinals are certainly glad he did. At 6'2 293 pounds he is not the largest defensive tackle but he makes up for that in speed and finesse. The cardinals hope he can become an absolute beast in the middle of their 4-3 defense with Arik Armstead beside him. Our defense will be fearsome if those two can make sure pockets close in quickly on opposing Qbs in the pass heavy league that the NFL has become.

2nd Round Pick 12 Dalton Adams TE San Diego St:

Dalton Adams was a two star athlete in college but finally decided on sticking with football midway through his junior year. The Cardinals are hoping that he made the right choice as they are in desperate need for a tight end to make plays for them in the middle of the field. While he won't burn anyone down field he flashed very reliable hands in San Diego along with a pension for embracing contact.

3rd Round Pick 12 Mike Steele QB Virginia:

It is absolutely no secret that Josh Rosen has fallen out of favor in Arizona. Through two seasons he's been completely abysmal and the Cardinals seem to want to move on. That makes the drafting of Mike Steele no shock to anyone. He's a west coast style quarterback with average throw power who excels in the short and intermediate passing game. While there is no guarantee he will be the starter this year he has a great opportunity to learn from one of the greats of the game this year in Drew Brees.

4th Round Pick 12 Jordan Datko DE Kansas St:

A power rusher in every sense of the word Jordan likes to use a bullrush move to take tackles off of their feet before putting big hits on the quarterback. Unfortunately for him his extremely physical style of play led to a lot of penalties in college and for many draft experts to label him an undisciplined dirty player. The Cardinals don't have a glaring need for a end but they couldn't deny his physical gifts in the 4th round. Datko may not see the field much this year but it will give the team a little bit of time to groom him into a more mature player when he finally does get some playing time.

5th Round Pick 12 Avery Mathis Rb Southern Illinois:

Avery Mathis is a mean powerback who flahsed some impressive moments in his collegiate career but is a little bit of a head scratcher of a pick for the Cardinals. They already have one of the best backs in the league in David Johnson and drafted sherman lane last year. Mathis is the same still style of back as Lane with much lower potential. He would need to make a huge splash in preseason to even make an argument for him being on this team pass the preseason. Expect him to be on the practice squad come week 1.

7th Round Pick 12 Cameron Boatwright FS Nevada:

A young Safety Cameron Boatwright joins the team at arguably its deepest position with many veterans ahead of him. In the 7th very rarely do you find starters let alone players who make the 53 man roster. The Cardinals did like his physical styel of play preferring secondary players who aren't afraid to get into the box and make plays in the run game and dont shy away from contact. Cam def showed that in Nevada where he led the team in tackles during his final season in college. Boatwright will probably be seeing the practice squad as well. Which will give him a chance to improve on his coverage skills if he ever wants to make it in the league.
