With the 3rd season of the cycle underway and our 30th season overall, there have been quite a few standouts in the first quarter of the season. So we will have a top 5 and talk a bit more about what’s going on with those players as they’ve put up NUMBERS through 4 games.
Derrick Henry, TEN HB- Henry has put on a show once again for the league. Averaging an absurd 9.6 yards per carry, Henry has just dominated the competition and makes a push for arguably the most impressive player of the cycle. He has 655 rushing yards and 10 TD’s through 4 games and although he’s not the receiving threat like some other backs he has the ability to take over games. He has the Titans comfortably at 4-0 and on track to 3 peat for the first time in AMLoB history.
DeMar Griffin, CIN HB- Although there’s been scrutiny about his workload as he’s gotten a lot of touches early in his career, Griffin has proven to be one of the most productive backs we’ve seen this early. Already sweeping awards his rookie year he came back with even more of a vengeance averaging 7.4 yards per carry and 735 total yards with 10 total TD’s. The Bengals are sitting at 4-0 in large part because of his play.
D.J. Chark, JAX WR- At WR there isn’t anyone who’s been playing the position better than Chark this season. Having a massive breakout season, he’s put up 600 receiving yards and 7 TD’s through 4 games. Chark has always been the favorite target for Minshew but with his new deal he’s showing why he’s deserving of the big extension. The Jags are 3-1 and Chark is a big reason as to why. Look for him to keep up this pace and if so lookout for this Jags passing attack.
Jonathan Taylor, IND HB- 678 total yards and 7 TD’s has Taylor looking like a premier back in this league. He’s been playing like an elite back and the whole league knows it. The Colts may be 2-2 but with their opponents having a combined 2 losses I’d say he has more in store the rest of the season. Taylor takes pressure off of young QB Wilson which has helped his development a ton so as long as he’s productive like this this team can be very good.
Gardner Minshew, JAX QB- Playing some of the most efficient football you’ll see, Minshew has been on a tear with him due to be paid. 12 TD’s and 4 INT’s on the season with a 135.5 QB rating and 1,021 pass yards has Minshew looking like a monster this season. He has gone wild with the guy mentioned above as him and Chark have been putting up numbers. With Minshew playing at this level it explains why this team is 3-1 and why they can look towards being a threat in the AFC.
