AMLoB All-Pro 1st Team Defense

EDGE:

Cameron Jordan, (NO): Cam Jordan, was a different type of beast off the edge this cycle. He could dominate any T he was matched up against and take over games for a defense that was just as stellar elsewhere. Being the main cog in the machine that bought 3 SB titles along the way. Averaging almost 29 sacks a season, he put fear in opposing offenses from the jump and earned the honor of the most dominant edge this cycle.

401 Total Tackles, 62 TFL’s, 173.5 Sacks, 14 FF, 2 Def. TD’s

Josh Allen, (JAX): Allen came through the cycle and ended up with the 2nd most sacks. The man just wrecked shop down there for the Jags. Coming through with an average just above 26 sacks per season gets Allen to this point on the list. The Jags defense was suffocatingly good as can be seen by the consistent numbers they had. Allen off the edge was a huge reason for that and he was an amazing player to watch this cycle.

452 Total Tackles, 89 TFL’s, 183.5 Sacks, 11 FF’s, 1 Def. TD

Brian Burns, (CAR): Brian Burns was a great piece in the Carolina defense this cycle. His speed off the edge proved to be tough for almost any T. Where Burns really shined was his ability to take the ball away with forcing fumbles (18 FF’s) and also scoring TD’s when the ball was in his hand (5). Burns was really impressive in a defense that was typically near the top in pass defense.

441 Total Tackles, 101 TFL’s, 157.5 Sacks, 18 FF’s, 5 Def. TD’s

Demarcus Lawrence, (DAL): Lawrence was the top sack getter at edge of the cycle as he was beating everyone off the edge. While not the run stuffer most guys on the list were, he played at a very high level which earned him a 1st team AP nod. He was definitely the best part of the Cowboys defense and consistently proved just why he is considered an elite edge. Masterful skill in getting to the QB.

406 Total Tackles, 54 TFL’s, 194 Sacks, 11 FF’s, 0 Def. TD’s

Von Miller, (DEN/NYG): The do it all edge that produced for both teams he played for falls here. Von Miller was near the top in almost everything except for FF’s and Def. TD’s. His production is one that garnered attention throughout the cycle and got him to a 1st team selection this cycle. With abilities like his being a premium at a really tough position to find your way to this spot, it is much deserved and Von was appreciated through the cycle by both squads.

485 Total Tackles, 100 TFL’s, 142.5 Sacks, 9 FF’s, 0 Def. TD’s

Khalil Mack, (CHI/KC): Although Mack was traded for a hefty price, it proved to be worth it for Chiefs as he led the defense en route to a SB appearance. That shows just how much of a monster Mack was and how he elevates a defense. Consistency was key as he continued to produce even with his skills regressing as the cycle went on. His run stopping ability was also top notch as shown in his TFL numbers.

466 Total Tackles, 104 TFL’s, 124 Sacks, 14 FF’s, 0 Def. TD’s

IDL:

Chris Jones, (KC/CAR): Jones was the top sack artist of the league and that’s coming from an interior position. Jones was so dominant throughout the cycle that he could flat out take over games from the defensive side of the ball. The offense was a turnover machine and Jones helped make an elite defense keep other squads in line.

479 Total Tackles, 83 TFL’s, 202.5 Sacks, 11 FF’s, 1 Def. TD

Aaron Donald, (LAR/DEN): Once again Donald is a All-Pro 1st Team interior guy, making him 3 for 3. Donald was much more of a hybrid player this cycle going from interior to edge and back quite a bit, a lot more than previous years. Donald was well rounded and played great in the defenses he was a part of. With his ability to produce on the edge and interior he was definitely one of the best pure front 4 players of the cycle.

456 Total Tackles, 99 TFL’s, 156 Sacks, 14 FF’s, 2 Def. TD’s

Tyson Pickett, (GB): Pickett had the ability to generate pressure everywhere form the interior whether that was at 3-4 DE, 4-3 DT or occasionally 3-4 NT. Pickett was one of the best interior defenders with his versatility and his ability to generate pressure. Also being a very solid run defender, Pickett has turned out to be one of the best players of the cycle and that’s why he’s recognized as a 1st Team Interior player.

298 Total Tackles, 68 TFL’s, 78.5 Sacks, 3 FF’s, 0 Def TD’s

OBB:

Sione Takitaki, (CLE): Takitaki was such a great piece to a loaded Browns defense. He was the man in the middle and everything revolves around his ability to make plays in the run game and the pass game. He could take away so much of the field and still come up and make stops when necessary. Versatility lands him here and gets him the edge as the top Off Ball Backer in the league for the cycle.

774 Total Tackles, 117 TFL’s, 28.5 Sacks, 15 FF’s, 52 INT’s, 40 PD’s, 15 Def. TD’s

Devin White, (TB): Although Devin White was just edged out he was as impressive as you could find with his all around play. In a defense that constantly found ways to make plays, White showed the rest of the defense the way. His athleticism at the position made it all possible but let’s not short sell his impact because he used that as a part of his arsenal to produce for the Bucs.

845 Total Tackles, 129 TFL’s, 17.5 Sacks, 10 FF’s, 41 INT’s, 61 PD’s, 10 Def. TD’s

Bumper Pool, (NO): Bumper Pool was another great player on the Saints defense. With a great showing stopping the run and an even more amazing ability to stop the pass, he made great waves. One of the lesser known pieces of the defense he was just as vital as anyone.

484 Total Tackles, 70 TFL’s, 16 Sacks, 3 FF’s, 24 INT’s, 61 PD’s, 3 TD’s

Front 7 Flex:

Joey Bosa, (LAC): Bosa was one of the more impressive DE’s this cycle and the stats show it. With him making plays wherever he lined up as a DE he put up numbers. An underrated run stopper to go with an excellent pass rusher shows throughout the cycle as he made that Chargers team great. Bosa even got them a SB appearance which shows what he meant to that team. Bosa aid a 3 time All-Pro member with his 2nd Straight 1st Team nod.

448 Total Tackles, 80 TFL’s, 183 Sacks, 9 FF’s, 2 Def. TD’s

CB:

Marshon Lattimore, (NO): Marshon was a  true pick artist this cycle with his coverage. He often times locked up the other teams best WR and even when it’s thrown his way it seemed like he was coming down with it. Leading all CB’s in INT’s (63) he showed that he is the true definition of a lockdown CB. Making his 2nd All-Pro appearance, but his first 1st team nod, it is well deserved.

418 Total Tackles, 20 TFL’s, .5 Sack, 3 FF’s, 63 INT’s, 63 PD’s, 4 Def. TD’s

Denzel Ward, (CLE): Ward was as good as they come once again this cycle earning his 2nd straight 1st Team selection. Ward was not only excellent at picking the ball off but breaking up passes as well. Where Ward really shined was his ability to convert those picks into points. He was such a force and lockdown defender for a loaded Browns defense. With him shadowing and WR he had to guard and blanketing them, it gave this team an elite CB outside.

482 Total Tackles, 10 TFL’s, 4.5 Sacks, 4 FF’s, 49 INT’s, 84 PD’s, 13 Def. TD’s

Donte Jackson, (CAR): Donte coming in with his 2nd straight 1st Team appearance. Donte was great at taking the ball away and converting it into points. He was the CB1 for a Panthers team that was consistently near the top in pass defense. Breaking up passes, along with his ability to take the ball away, and his ability to score made Donte hard to turn down on this list.

473 Total Tackles, 22 TFL’s, 4 Sacks, 0 FF’s, 51 INT’s, 95 PD’s, 12 Def. TD’s

Chris Westry, (NO): Westry is the 2nd Saints CB on the list and for good reason. His size along with his athleticism made him a terror in the slot and on the boundary at CB. In a short span he racked up great numbers between picks, deflections and scores. Westry deserved to be selected and got the 1st team nod because his play made it happen.

438 Total Tackles, 28 TFL’s, 3 Sacks, 0 FF’s, 54 INT’s, 95 PD’s, 7 Def. TD’s

S:

Derwin James, (LAC): Mr. Enforcer himself gets the 1st Team nod after being 2nd team last cycle. Derwin was someone to watch out for when you’ve got the ball in your hands as he was a fumble forcing machine. Not only was he a great run stopper and game changer with forcing fumbles, he also forced turnovers in the pass game as well and pass breakups.

543 Total Tackles, 31 TFL’s, 6.5 Sacks, 37 FF’s, 26 INT’s, 64 PD’s, 3 Def. TD’s

Jabrill Peppers, (NYG/OAK): Jabrill was a playmaker in each facet of the game. He made plays run stuffing as well as stopping the pass. With Peppers playing for two different franchises he made his biggest impact as a Raider and it can be shown in the stats. He meant so much to that defense as they were fast and aggressive at all times.

555 Total Tackles, 25 TFL’s, 13.5 Sacks, 15 FF’s, 31 INT’s, 82 PD’s, 2 Def. TD’s

Neji Taylor, (TB): Neji was a freakish athlete at S and used that to his advantage all cycle. He closed ground to rack up TFL’s at the rate of some front 7 players and make plays in the air putting up ridiculous pick numbers. Combine his athleticism with his ability to find the ball/ball carrier and you have one of the best at his position this CFM.

527 Total Tackles, 53 TFL’s, 2 Sacks, 6 FF’s, 55 INT’s, 51 PD’s, 11 Def. TD’s

Marcus Williams, (NO): I believe we see a trend here with another Saints defender on the list. Marcus Williams gets his 3 straight 1st Team appearance and it’s well deserved. He was one of the top S’s this cycle at disrupting the pass and did some solid run stuffing in the process. This Saints defense has so much talent and Marcus is another one of those great guys for that team.

538 Total Tackles, 36 TFL’s, 3.5 Sacks, 3 FF’s, 39 INT’s, 74 PD’s, 7 Def. TD’s

DB Flex:

Jalen Ramsey, (JAX): To no one’s surprise Jalen Ramsey is also a 3 time 1st Team Selection. Ramsey is just a beast and suffocates whoever he is guarding, so much to the point people don’t even try him. Ramsey may not have put up the numbers other CB’s did, but that’s because people just left him alone. He took away a half of the field every time the Jags defense was out there.

414 Total Tackles, 26 TFL’s, 0 Sacks, 1 FF, 26 INT’s, 103 PD’s, 3 Def. TD’s

Juan Thornhill, (KC): Thornhill might be one of the more quiet 1st team selections but he balled. He was a main reason why the secondary in KC worked this cycle. His athleticism combined with the scheme made for a tough time for opponents.

568 Total Tackles, 38 TFL’s, 4 Sacks, 3 FF’s, 30 INT’s, 80 PD’s, 7 Def. TD’s
