AMLoB Power Rankings Season 2 v1

1.) Jacksonville Jaguars

The first team in league history to accomplish the elusive feat of 19-0 will bring in the new season as the number 1 team. Seeing as how this team won the Super Bowl unblemished and did nothing but get better over the offseason, they are once again the early favorites. This team did well in the draft finding some really good rotational pieces to fit into this already great team. The biggest concern is the QB position once again as Blake Bortles has been known to be inconsistent from season to season. Even with that small concern this team looks ready to make another run at a title as the next record they look to break is the 32 game win streak. Be on the lookout for how this team picks up how they left off as they look to capture another AMLoB title.

2.) Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers have plenty of young talent and drafted some more pieces to be a part of this already young group. Josh Dobbs is looking to take another step in his development as he approaches his second year as a starter. With such high expectations there is a lot this team has to live up to this season. The defense definitely has to show last season’s form and Melvin Gordon will be needed to help take the load off of Dobbs as he continues to progress for this team. The Chargers season to start has 4 division opponents, and a first place finishing last season Bills team that will be tough to knock off. 13-3 will be a hard thing to replicate but with the talent on this team and this coach I think they can make it happen once again.

3.) Detroit Lions

The Lions turned out a 14-2 season last year before losing to their division rival Bears in the divisional round last year with a less than stellar team as this coach has done in the past. As they look forward to this season after an offseason where they barely lost a bidding war for big time FA RB Ajayi, and didn’t quite have the draft they wanted, they look to repeat as division champions. A lot of this team is still in place from the success of last season and will be led by Matthew Stafford once again as they look for Kerryon to get going on the ground like he was early last season. The defense looks to pick up where they left off with their ability to force turnovers at a ridiculous rate. This coach feels this team can contend so we’ll see if they can show it in their play.

4.) Chicago Bears

Although their regular season wasn’t viewed very highly last year, they definitely made noise in the postseason as they fought all the way to the championship game that ended with them losing to the surging Giants at the time. This team has plenty of young pieces that they expect to get better this season on both sides of the ball. They had a solid draft with picking up a couple guys that could potentially come in and make an immediate impact. In Trubs 3rd year he looks to prove that he’ll be worthy of a deal as it expires in the season following this one. Jordan Howard looks to come back and make a big imprint on this team as well after his solid year last season. This Bears team should find a way to get it done this season especially with a proven coach in this league leading.

5.) New York Giants

The NFC champion Giants definitely want to not only get back to the Super Bowl but this time actually take it home. This team looks to have taken another step forward this offseason as they added to the core that got them to the Super Bowl last season. The major concern for this team is the consistency which they didn’t have last year with stretches of dominance and stretches of bad play. Lauletta looks to cut down on his pick number from last season and Saquon is ready to carry the load of the offense to do that. Evan Engram also looks to pick up where he left off last season as this team’s top target along with OBJ who wants to bounce back this season. Look for this squad to make a lot of plays with an explosive offense and solid defense to make another run at a Super Bowl.

6.) Cleveland Browns

The Browns ended the regular season hotter than anyone last season with 10 straight wins before a loss in the wild card round where it’s been rumored that the team quit on the coach. Well with Baker Mayfield back to show that he won’t have a sophomore slump I think this team can compete again. Most of this team’s young core is back as well as some selections in the draft that can contribute immediately including the 3rd round selection Nick Levels, the kicker that was highly coveted from the draft. This coach hopes to get more contribution from Nick Chubb this season as the run game was extremely bad and inconsistent last season. The regular season is where this coach figured out and does it well so we’ll see if he can do it again.

7.) New Orleans Saints

This team is returning for the most part, but the biggest thing that’ll be missing is their valiant leader of the last 13 seasons Drew Brees. That’s a huge loss for a team that went 13-3 and won the tough NFC South last year. This coach is hoping that Teddy can come in a bridge the gap til this team finds the QB they want to move into the future. Windows in the league are small and this team is trying to make sure they take advantage of that. The defense should be strong once again with Cam Jordan and Lattimore leading the way up front and in the secondary to go along with the acquisition of Jaire in the offseason. Also the acquisition of Ajayi in an already crowded backfield was a questionable move but should work out. It’ll be interesting to see if Teddy keeps this team afloat.

8.) Buffalo Bills

The Bills will come back pretty much intact after an offseason with a lot of moves around the league. The coach and the fans of this team are hoping that Josh Allen takes the next step in his development to be the QB of the future for this team as they hope to build on the success of last year. With not much help from the draft this team plans on playing similar to last year as they look to win the AFC East once again. The defense is where this team should really shine as they have improved with the addition of Navarro Bowman to bring veteran leadership and ability to this LB group. Tremaine Edmunds is primes and ready to have a big year again after crushing it in his rookie season as he continues to develop into an elite LB. This team should be good to watch.

9.) Baltimore Ravens

After having arguably the most explosive offense in the league last season, the Ravens look to continue to build from that feat. This team struggled down the stretch last year but hoping that they can regain the prowess they had most of the season last year is their focus. Didn’t have a great draft but drafted a couple guys that can fit into this system and work well. Lamar Jackson looks to come back even better in his 2nd year after a very impressive rookie campaign that most players couldn’t touch or come close to. The biggest loss this team suffered was not bringing back Collins which they hope that Spencer Pickett can bring the other element to the backfield they had with Abdullah and Collins. Look for this team to compete again this season.

10.) Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are coming into this season after going 9-7 last year and retaining a lot of their pieces. They had a solid draft as they picked up some guys that can fit right into the culture this team has built. In order for this team to perform at optimal level though, Patrick Mahomes has to play like he’s the QB this team needs especially with the fact he’s due for a contract the season following this one. He has the weapons to be great so it’ll be interesting to see if he can take the next step in his development for this offense. The defense is where this team really prides itself as they lock opponents up a lot of the time. The defense is an older bunch in a few positions but they still find ways to make plays all over the place especially with Eric Berry flying around. Another team to watch here.
