Review of Seasons 6-13: The Chiefs came out of the cycle pretty well ending with an 84-42-2 overall record across 8 seasons and making the playoffs 6 times and winning the division 3 times in that span. This Chiefs team showed a lot in the cycle with player development and amazing draft classes that sustained success is possible if you have a plan in place. Mahomes got plenty of weapons and this team even ended up sending away pieces to gain more pieces. It can be said that they are responsible for a couple of successful players in the league as they developed guys so well. Corey led this team really well with the only knock on the resumé being that he couldn’t quite get it done with a 2-6 record and not getting to at least 1 conference championship game. Overall you’d be hard pressed to find a team that was more successful on all fronts from a roster standpoint than Corey did with the Chiefs and drafting and developing his guys.
Preview to Madden 19: Corey will take the Chiefs into the cycle with an optimistic look, as they have plenty of weapons on the offensive side of the football. The place they will lack is on the defensive side with quite a few aging players on that side so rebuilding the defense into the type of scheme Corey likes wouldn’t be too difficult but hard enough. With Corey’s ability to draft and play this could be a good year for the Chiefs team as he looks to capture the magic that brought him a title in the madden 17 cycle. I think even more playoff success would be considered a win but when you’re in the class of user Corey is in for the league to go along with his competitive nature it’s all about the rings, so we will see how this cycle goes for this team.
Oakland Raiders
Review of Seasons 6-13: The Raiders had a rough go at it for the most part aside from 2 seasons in which one was a playoff appearance and the other was a 10-6 effort that missed the mark. This struggle shows in their record of 47-81 across the cycle with no consistency in a user running the team. Due to the fact they couldn’t keep a consistent user this team never grew or got any better with none of the players really being able to produce at the pace the rest of the league was at. Snippy took this team over late after being so successful in earlier seasons with the Lions but couldn’t quite get it done in the 2 seasons he was there.
Preview to Madden 19: Snippy takes this Raiders team into Madden 19 with hopes of getting back to that level of excellence during the regular season he maintained through a lot of Madden 18. This Raiders team does have really nice pieces and it’ll be interesting to see what Snippy does to put this team over the top. The one thing Snippy is probably really looking forward to as far as Madden 19 is more playoff success because that’s the only thing he struggled with in the last cycle. Overall I think Snippy will be good and stable for this Raiders team in a very tough division.
Denver Broncos
Review of Seasons 6-13:The Broncos had a single playoff appearance that came in the last season of the cycle. As was the story with most of the bad teams in the league they just couldn’t find a consistent user leading them to a 54-74 record and 42.19 win %. They had a couple of really nice players across the cycle with Estevez and Wheezer but as a whole this team didn’t have much to offer from jump or get better after that. Josh came in late and made this team more formidable but with this roster he was more overachieving with less talent which is a tribute to his user skill. This cycle just didn’t go well for the Broncos from start to most of the finish.
Preview to Madden 19:Looking to Madden 19 this Broncos team doesn’t look like they’ll be in a much better position due to another user change with a stable user at the helm which should be fine but an older less than stellar roster to boot. Combine that with the fact that the rest of the division is extremely tough and it doesn’t look gold for this team going into Madden 19. This will definitely be a project for Crown so it’ll be interesting to see how he runs the show.
Los Angeles Chargers
Review of Seasons 6-13: With a 69-58-1 mark that resulted in 5 division titles and playoff appearances as well as a conference championship appearance leads you to believe this team could be seen as one of the more successful squads in the cycle which wasn’t the case. Despite consistently winning the division they often times didn’t have the best division record which is really odd. Stefan had this team looking like they were on the track to be a contender for one of the more successful teams of the cycle but then after he retired from the league this team couldn’t quite get their swagger back only making the playoffs once in the final 4 seasons. 3-5 in the playoffs isn’t really great but showing they could get it done consistently was really big especially in the first 4 seasons.
Preview to Madden 19:Lightz will be taking this team over which should be something to see across the cycle as he moves to AFC West from the NFC West. With all of the success he had with Arizona, he could definitely replicate production in LA. With such a young talented roster this will be one of the more interesting storylines of the cycle as he builds and develops this team into what he feels he needs to bring in another AMLoB title. Phillip Rivers and the OL are the two things that will need the most help as Rivers is good but aging and the OL just isn’t that good. The division is tough but with arguably one of the better situations in the league from a roster to user standpoint this could go really well even in a tough division.
Division Predictions
Most Successful: The Chargers have everything they need for sustained success across the cycle with a really good young roster and a very capable user who’s shown that he is a force in the league.
User(s) to Watch: Corey and Snippy are users with a proven track record of success in the league. Both of them will be guys to watch as this division proves to be one of the best in the league and potentially sending 3 playoff teams in some years.
Team That Will Struggle: I just don’t see the Broncos doing well this year with so much talent on the other teams and more consistent users running those teams. The Broncos can be good but we’ll just have to see how it shakes out.
Breakout Star:Derwin James is in a perfect situation to be a breakout star with a user that develops safeties well along with his physical traits, it seems to be a match made in Madden heaven.
Most Likely to Win a Super Bowl:The Chargers are in the best position to win the Super Bowl in this division with a user that has done it twice before and having arguably the best roster of the division.
