Detroit Lions Draft Recap

The Detroit Lions came into the draft with a lot of holes and a lot of draft capital. Armed with three 1st round picks, the Lions GM Marv aimed to rebuild this talent deprived roster pick by pick. DT Roderick James was the number 1 player on the draft board but he was picked right before he had a chance to join a good Lions defense poised to become elite this season. The Lions aimed their sights on speedy WR Peter Holley which was a suprised pick to many but will be a perfect fit with last years number 1 overall pick QB Kevin Williamson who had a good rookie year. More talent was added in MLB Greg Stewart and DT Isaiah Beckham. Both who have the talent to bring another DROY award to Detroit, following in the foot steps of last years 1st round stud Julius Lawson who terrorized QBs all season. Both rookies had a strong pre season showing in game 1 vs the Bills. MLB Greg Stewart had an interception and 10 tackles in his time on the field. DT Isaiah Beckham had 2 sacks and stayed in the backfield all game. The cherry on top of this talent draft class was Tackle Lance Stewart who will start at RT. His combination of acceleration and speed is a rate find for a man of his size (6'4 312). The Lions aim to make a push to win the NFC North this season which would make their first winning season this cycle. Expect Kevin Williamson to breakout and remind people why he was the top pick in last years draft. The Defense is aiming for a top 5 finish (finished top 10 last season and 2nd vs the pass) to set the tone for the future of the franchise.
