The Football Team from Washington has one big glaring hole ==> Quarterback. In real life, QB Dwyane Haskins was cut by the team. In the Winter league, he has thrown 3 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Being a 66 overall rated quarterback with normal development, Mr. Haskins does not seem like the long-term solution.
To call the situation bleak would be generous.
So, while most fans are already debating between Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields the die-hard Football Team fan has something to watch right now: the ascent of rookie running back Antonio Gibson.
Gibson was a two-way player during his senior year at Memphis. He actually had more receiving yards than rushing yards, more receiving TDs than rushing TDs, and more receptions than rushing attempts.
In the Winter League, if you apply the following filters ==> 89 or higher Speed, 88 or higher Carrying, 73 or higher Catching, and 73 or higher Short Route... you only get 3 players. Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, and Antonio Gibson. Gibson is clearly a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield but it is his ground game that has caught the eye of the league.
Thru 5 games, Gibson has already had two games of over 200 yards rushing. In his other 3 games, he hasn't been held below 120 yards. He currently has a league-leading 881 yards and is tied with Tampa's Ronald Jones with 8 rushing touchdowns.
Could this be a fluke? It could be. Certainly, no player (let alone a 22-year old rookie) can maintain this torrid pace. But, at least for the moment, there is something on this 1-win team for the fans to tune in and watch on a weekly basis.
