A thriller of a game if you're into high scoring affairs. The Forty-Niners, fighting for their play off lives.The Falcons, who are out of contenttion, jumped out to an early lead with a 5 yard touchdown run by Donte Freeman. The 49ers returned the favor and tied the game with a beautiful 35 yard run for a touchdown by Brieda. The San Francisco "Gold Rush" defense then held the Falcons on a goal line stand and held them to a field goal. That's when the 49er offense started to roll. Atlanta defense did a fairly good job all day against the run. Matt Brieda led the corp of runningbacks with 53 yards. They did manage to out rush the Falcons 93 yards to 48. The San Francisco defense denied Donte Freeman any slack, smothering him for the most part. San Francisco was able to jump out to a 21 -13 point lead at halftime. Neither teams could muster much in the third. San Francisco manging only a field goal.

In the 4th quarter Julio Jones and Matt Ryan came firing back, out scoring the Forty-Niners 25 to 14. The Falcons tied the game up late and here we go into over time. Atlanta winning the toss and electing to recieve, drove down into Forty-Niner territory and a Matt Bryant field goal put the Falcons up. Jimmy Garoppolo and Emmanuel Sanders came up big all day long, but it was HB Tevin Coleman who hauled in the winning 3 yard touchdown.

All in all it came down to the two number one wide receivers, Julio Jones and Emmanuel Sanders. With a display of spectacular route running and stick to your hand receptions.  Sanders put on a receiving clinic with 11 catches for 228 yards. 41 yards of run after catch. Not to be out done, Julio Jones erupted in the second half, starting with a 90 yard touchdown reception. ending the day with slightly less than Sanders at 224 yards. 141yards of that was run after catch!

Although, neither quarterback were slouches. Garoppolo ended the day 29 of 38 for 415 yards and 4 touch downs. A passer rating of 146.2. Matt Ryan, although sacked 4 times, went a respectable 29 of 39 for 518 yards and a 141.7 passer rating ! 

In preseason action, the 49ers and Broncos faced off in Denver.
the Niner starters looked decent running the ball. Jay Ajayi ran for 66 yards on 15 attempts. A far cry from last weeks performance. Jimmy G was picked off 4 times in the 3 quarters of play he got. Most weren't even close. Coach Kyle Shanahan said , " I'm not worried. Jim will test his receivers ability to make the tough catches and they really didn't do well today."  That was a glossed over statement by Shanahan. The number of drops by open 49er wide receivers was thoroughly bad.  The 49ers were manhandled in a  9 to 27 stomping.
The coach made this final statement, "We need to adhere to play calling discipline. We strayed away from being balanced and panicked in the attempt to come back... We had our chances but didn't perform good enough."
It is rumored that the 49ers are seeking to trade for a veteran wide receiver . Rumor is they've contacted the Broncos and Eagles in their search.
