Mid-Season (more or less) Rookie Report

Now that we are firmly entrenched into the second season of Madden 19 we take a moment to look at the first-year draft and the players who now are shaping the landscape of CAML.

Every year owners look to hoard picks to get a chance at young, talented, cheap options to build out their roster, often trading veteran, known talents for the lottery ticket needed to potentially take one of these rookies.

And with the advent of the new Legends program some of these players could be the ones we see come with us to Madden 20 and play out the bulk of their careers.

Quarterback Class

NYG - Patrick Knott : 118/163 (72%) for 1,912 yards, 12 TD / 4 INT
CIN - Anthony Xavier : 133/206 (64%) for 1,895 yards, 16 TD / 21 INT
NE - Cole James : 136/214 (64%) for 1,861 yards, 13 TD / 8 INT
DAL - Quantavious Doolittle : 94/163 (57%) for 1,200 yards, 10 TD / 9 INT, and also has 35 carries for 225 yards, 5 TD's

The quarterback. The top position. The most important, highest paid, and usually among the top positions selected in any and every draft. So it stands to reason that three of the four quarterbacks listed above were taken in the first-round, albeit late.

Knott has risen to the top of the class and sits ninth in MVP rankings right now, fifth in NFC OPOY, and as the top player in the OROY ballot for the NFC.

Wide Receiver Class

SEA - Malcolm Wisne (TE) : 41 receptions, 651 yards, 7 TD
CIN - Garrett Koenen : 32 receptions, 436 yards, 2 TD
DEN - Henry Neil (TE) : 30 receptions, 350 yards, 1 TD
KC - Myles Agurs : 28 receptions, 380 yards, 1 TD
DET - Tre George : 27 receptions, 392 yards, 3 TD

It's a bit strange to see tight ends as two of the top three receiving options in the CAML first-year player pool but here we are. Wisne is even second in the OROY ballots, though his productions under the next manager is still yet to be seen.

Defensive Rookie Class

NE - Traivon Humphrey (FS) : 42 tackles, 4 INT, 3 sacks
TB - Pearson Washington (FS) : 47 tackles
GB - Rodriguez Simon (FS) : 46 tackles,  INT
KC - Case Spitz (FS) : 39 tackles, 3 INT
JAX - Leio McCray (MLB) : 30 takles, 1 INT, 4 sacks
TB - Shaman Cash (SS) : 32 tackles, 5 INT, 1 sack

Tampa's twin rookie safeties see themselves both near the top of rookies statistically, this despite neither having particularly good speed or athleticism. Still, they have nearly 80 tackles and five picks between them. Meanwhile JTowne's Traivon Humphrey's has easily been the league's most impactful safeties and is tops in the AFC rookie of the year race.
