As much as the 49er fans have enjoyed these past couple of seasons, the 2020 season is starting to look like a derailing trainwreck in the making. This season is only the 3rd in young head coach Santi's career and midway through the team is seeming to be falling of the rails as the season goes further. The team as a whole is a well put together with a nice mix of young talent and veteran leadership, but the team schemes and a key position changes seem to have a hand in the short comings of this years team. First lets talk about HC Santi's first season, he took over the niners after a 5+ years of lossing seasons and takes almost the same personnel to a 11-5 record and a trip to the NFC Championship game where they fell to a rising Redskins team with ROTY Derrius Guice who had a good game against the 49ers. The next season was just as good record wise with the team finishing 12-3-1, but that record ended up giving them a top seed and a easy trip to getting back to the NFC Championship game just to fall short to the Lions at home in a close loss. Both of those seasons while considered successful leaves the question of why they keep missing the chance of making it to a Super Bowl and some believe that the blame largely falls on veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo shoulders and his decision making in games where he would get consistently hit/pressured. Now those type of games can doom any passer in this league, but thats where you find out who is good and who is great, and great quarterbacks will always find the will to overcome such trials while not making costly mistakes that can ruin a whole teams confidence and collapse games that this team is more then capable of winning. In the two seasons he started for the niners Jimmy G has tossed 40+ INTs and for a Qb who just got a fresh 100M+ deal after a nice half season, it looks like the previous coaching regime overpayed and left the bill for the organization to pick up. Thats more then likely why HC Santi had decided to pick up two Qbs in this last draft class to try an maybe find his future signal caller, while still having the same level of successs as the past two seasons? Will have to wait an see, but as it stands now this team is 4-4 and looking at possibly missing the playoffs for the first time in two years. Although judging by the success of coach Santi's, we can be sure that he and his staff are taking full advantage of this bye week to come up with a plan of attack for the second half of the season where they face a brutal schedule which includes playing the Eagles, Redskins, and even their 90s rival the Dallas Cowboys so buckle up Niners fans as this could be either the end of their playoff hopes or the beginning of a really wild ride. To be continued.........
The 49ers have had some promising success over the past two seasons were Head coach King Santi has lead them to the NFC Championship game in 2018 followed by a very good campaign in 2019 leading to a top seed. Unfortunately the last seasons playoff hopes ended at home in the first round, leading to some questioning what the 2020 season will look like. The real question everyones dying to know is what version of Jimmy Garoppolo will show up? the Quarterback who in 2017 took over a dysfunctional team after being traded mid year that rattled off 5 straight wins to end the season. Or will it be the same Jimmy we've seen the past 2 seasons who's become quite the turnover factory. As any good Head coach will tell you, your offense is only as good as your Qb and seeing how Jimmy's thrown over 20 picks in each of the past two seasons one has to ask, how much time do you give a veteran quarterback before you cut your loses and start the next man up? Well by the looks of the 49ers recent Draft class change maybe just on the horizon as they took two quarterbacks in the later rounds. Now before we get all skeptical about who will be starting the 2020 season at qb lets take a deep breath and realize that the two Qbs darfted are more then likely developmental prospects and with that being said it will be some time before either hits the field in 2020 if at all during the season. While some of us would love to see these players in live game action to access where they stand at the highest level of football, all we have is their college resume's and past successes.
