After former DC Robert Saleh took the NYJ head coaching job, there was a void in the San Francisco office. After many interviews, including to some young guys and some guys in house, the 49ers have decided to hire Chris Jones as their DC. Jones resume is long, but not in the NFL. He spent last year with the Cleveland Browns, but other than that, he hasn't had NFL experience. Jones spent 17 years in the Canadian Football League coaching ranks, where he helped his teams to four Grey Cup championships (2002, 2008, 2012 and 2015) and was named CFL Coach of the Year in 2018. He also served as the Saskatchewan Roughriders vice president of football operations, general manager and head coach. Under his tutelage, the Roughriders improved from a five-win season in 2016 to a 10-8 record in 2017 and a 12-6 tally last year. Coach Shanahan said he likes the fact that Jones has had nearly every job in the front office as well as being a proven coach. Jones gave only a two sentence statement, "This defense has the ability to be the best defense in the NFL. It's super bowl or bust for the Sanfranciso 49ers." We'll see how this duo works out in San Fran!
Hey there guys, my name is Stacy Monjeau. I will be the San Francisco 49ers beat writer for the year and look forward to writing great posts for you all! After recently talking to Kyle Shanahan, about the first 2 weeks of preseason, he reiterated that he'sincredibly happy with how everybody has played, but there are holes in the roster than still need to be addressed. He stressed that a big body receiver that can win at the line of scrimmage and use his body is something that they are missing. He was quoted as saying, "We have a lot of fast track guys playing receivers for us which is great to stretch the field vertically, but on 3rd downs against press man coverage, other than [Kittle] we don't have a guy who can win off the line and get open. We're hoping Deebo turns into that guy, but he's young right now and still picking up on some nuances." He also spoke about how he and general manager John Lynch are constantly trying to add depth in the defensive secondary. "We have a great, deep defensive line and great starters in the back end of our defense, but we're thin back there in terms of experience and bodies, so that's something John and I have spoken about and something we're trying to fix every day. Our data and analytics director is high on a few guys he happens to be very familiar with, including Eric Berry, so we'll see what happens." On the most recent depth chart it says that Coleman will be the starting tailback, starting over McKinnon, followed by Breida. He stood by that when I spoke to him and said he doesn't expect that to change. The final thing I asked him about was the recent foot injury to Joey Bosa that he suffered in the preseason game against the Broncos. Here were his thoughts on the injury, "You know, we know that Joe has had a few injuries to his lower body, but he has never had anything like a broken toe before, so it's not a repeat or nagging injury. We expect him to be out 3-5 weeks. He may be ready by week 1, but at this point we're unsure. He's a great young player and he is a gamechanger, he's somebody that the offense must always account for and somebody you need to build a gameplan around, so hopefully we get him back soon." He then concluded our conversation with "Hey Stacy, if you have any cute friends, have them snap me." Coach Shanahan showing some personality as he's known to do quite often!
Thanks for reading, I'll keep you guys informed throughout the year!

This week Minnesota traveled to the city of brotherly love; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Minnesota started off slow, their players looked lethargic the entire 1st quarter. Starting quarterback Kirk cousins threw 3 picks but the defense stepped up big and only allowed 13 points. Down 13-10, Minnesota needed something to revitalize it's struggling offense and decided it was "GOATcia" time! Rookie Quarterback, Lee Garcia, came into the game mid-way through the 2nd quarter and totally revamped the offense. Garcia led the way to 17 unanswered points and Minnesota wins 27-13 in Philly. Philly looked like they gave up towards the end of the game, controversially running the ball 4 straight times with a minute and thirty seconds left with all timeouts. Currently there is no information on whether or not Garcia or cousins will start next week against the New York Football Giants, but my bet is Garcia. Cousins looked like hot garbage against the only contender Minnesota has faced thus far in the year. -Big Dave, Radke-Esports analyst
The Minnesota Vikings traveled to Lambeau this week but due to lightning in the area the game was post poned for an hour. Green Bay would win the coin toss but that is about all that went well for them this week. The staunch Minnesota defense backed by an elite running game and spectacular plays by Cousins and Theilen led Minnesota to a stunning 50-0 shut out in Lambeau. Green Bay even benched Aaron Rodgers but backup quarterback Deshone kizer wasn't any better throwing more picks than completions. Even when Minnesotas prodigy Lee Garcia Came into the game there was no chance for Green Bay. Minnesota moves to 5-1 while Green Bay remains in the cellar at 1-5
