After a disappointing loss in the wildcard round, the Panthers have made HUGE moves in the offseason. They dipped into Free Agency, trades, and the draft. The outcome? A polished turd.
After being with the Panthers his whole career, Luke Kuechly was traded for two 2nd round picks and a future 2nd round pick. GM Lou Skunt has this to say “Kuechly just wasn’t Kuechly anymore. He got old, he got slow, and we just couldn’t keep him around. We considered all options but finally traded him to the Bucs. Now they can push him around in his wheelchair”
Going into Free Agency, the defense needed a lot of work but they decided to ultimately go with LT Cam Robinson and converted him to LG. A solid pick up but will it be worth it? Lou Skunt says yes. “Have you seen that big mother fucker? 6’6” 320 LBs of pure testosterone. I think he’s going to be a huge assist moving forward”
In the Draft, the Panthers decided to go defense early. Specifically the secondary, taking Tyronne Hughes from Wisconsin in the 1st round. A monster in college and a potential star if he can get his speed up. In the second round, the Panthers had 2 picks. taking LG Trey Mickell at the 15th spot and TE Warren Schable with the 22nd spot.
The Panthers are confident in their return to the playoffs but not some much with the Divsion. Owner Anita Hanjobe had this to say “The Falcons have a tough team. They completely obliterated use in the 2nd game last season and with little to no improvement since then, we might be looking at the same result. But I believe in this team. I believe in this staff. More importantly, I believe Gieco could save you 15% a or more on car insurance”
Long story short, Panthers are fucked looking at another 1 and done in the playoffs.
The Panthers have advanced to 3-1 after a dominating win coming out of the bye week. Cam Newton had this to say after the game “Well the game plan this week was to come in, dominate on both sides, and go into the locker room with a win. I think we accomplished that today. Aye and shout out to the young James Gunner. He got a few snaps in today. That’s my dawg. Regardless what my future is with this team, I will always support this guy.
Dominate they did. With a big win 41-13 over the Saints. Cam Newton passed for 227 yards on 19 attempts and a TD. His successor, James Gunner had a 144.7 passer rating. Though he only had 4 throws on the game, he completed all 4 for 37 yards and a TD. Christian McCaffrey had another big day, like anyone is surprised. He had 124 yards on 17 carries and 3 TDs.
The defense allowed a long touchdown in the first quarter and it started to look like Cal Naughton Jr was going to light up that defense. Yet they only allowed 258 total yards. Luke Kuechly was a ball hawk today with 2 picks that were huge for the Panthers. The rookie Vondree Hunt, the player who gave up the early TD, also redeemed himself with a pick of his own.
All in all, this team is looking good moving forward. After the loss the Panthers took against the Chargers 2 weeks ago, they went into the Bye week knowing they needed to calm down and play like the the top 5 team it is. Panthers are now tied for first in the NFC South with Tampa Bay who they play in 3 weeks.
Back to back season with 12 plus wins. Back to back division titles. And unfortunately back to back playoff losses. Due to the inability of Cam Newton to put the ball on the money, the Panthers went after James Gunner with their first round pick.
After a decent showing in Preseason, Gunner will not take the starting position in week 1. Lou Skunt, GM of the Panthers, had this to say “Look, we’ve got to get creative with our offense. We’ve acquired Eric Ebron at TE because Greg Olsen decided to eat a bag of dicks last season. James Gunner is the future of this team and we’ve still got McCaffery. We’re gonna light it up.
Coming out of the draft with a potential top 5 QB in years to come, the Panthers are confident in their ability to win a 3rd straight division title. After a bitter defeat in the divisional round the last two years, the Panthers coaching staff have a lot of faith in a possible Super Bowl run.
We have no word on when Gunner will be taking over the starting position but he will for sure get plenty of snaps during the preseason. His play in preseason determines the future of current QB Cam Newton. If Gunner pans out, we could see a huge trade that involves Newton before the deadline.
With division rival, New Orleans Saints, taking a big arm QB in the draft, the panthers plan to look into beefing up their secondary for whatever the Saints may throw at them.
