In week 7 of the 2019 NFL Season the Kansas City Chiefs went to Denver to play the Broncos in Mile High.
The Chiefs started theire Season 0-6 and had to turn it arround in Denver while the Broncos startet the Week with an 3-3 Record and in dire need of a W to keep at least some Playoff hopes alive.
Offense, Offense, Offense and Turnovers!
Was this the best Game of the Season? Maybe! But one of the more fun to watch for sure.
If I told you to Name two Mobile Quarterbacks with an Explosive Arm and above average mobility that like to make a big play Instead of taking the Chekdown you probably think of Patrick Mahomes right away and 7 Weeks into the Season you have to name Drew Lock aswell. In a Game where Both Teams had over 400 Yards on total Offense those both signal callers stud right in Center.
A deep Ball to Hill and an elctric Run by the former Bronco Running Back Lindsay started the offensive showdown in Mile High. With a 12 - 0 lead minutes into the Game it looked pretty good for KC to finaly break theire Loosing Streak. But than Drew Lock showed up big Time. 3 Plays and 88 Yards later Noah Fant ran an 50+ Yard Pass into the Endzone. So not even a quarter into the Game Both Teams where over 150 yards total offense.
The Quarterback Battle:
For sure the MVP of Last Season Patrick Mahomes put on a Show today, but it was Drew Lock who made a lasting impression. Mahomes completet 11 of 21 Passes for 275 yards and 2 TDs while Lock completet 17 of 22 Passes for 449 Yards and 3 Tds. Lock also got 11 yards on one Carry to move the Chains. But Mahomes showed the stronger Arm right? Well Mahomes did Complete an impressive 79 yard Pass to Hill, but Lock even toped that with an 84 Yard TD Pass to DK Metcalf.
The Defense did show up... at least sometimes:
You cant really talk posive about both defenses if they gave up over 900 yards combined. But still if they showed up, they did big time. Tyrann Mathieu, Juan Thornhill and Bashaud Breeland picked up Lock, while David Long, Jamal Adams, Greedy Williams and Nick Kwiatkoski picked up Mahomes on the other side of the field. Also Thornhill, Lee, O'daniel and Clark registerd a Sack during that game while Bradley Chubb made the only Denver Sack this week.
Buffalo wins AFC EAST for the first time since 1995!
Its finaly over! 10 Years in a Row (2009-2018) and 16 out of the last 18 years the Patriots won the Afc East. Last Season they sneaked passed the Dolphins in Week 17 of the regular Season. Last year the leading Dolphins lost theire Week 17 Matchup against the Bills while the Patriots won in New York against the Jets to secure another Division Titel.
If you want to see another Division Winner than the New England Patriots you would have go back to the Year 2008 where Miami won the Division. The last time that the New York Jets where able to secure a division Title was back in 2002. But the longest period of waiting for a Titel is now officially over. After a surprising Win agains the Eagles the Bills end up with an 11-1 record after 13 Weeks of Regular Season and now cant be catched up by any Team in theire Division anymore. (6-6 Patriots, 4-8 Dolphins, 2-10 Jets). And now for the first time since 1995 Buffalo will win the Division Again.
The Team that missed the Playoffs last season despite a 10-6 record now even hopes for a bye week in Postseason. If you ask Fans in Buffalo the even better Season is easy to explain. Josh Allen, the Quarterback in his Sophomore Campain shows improvement on every level. More TD Passes, Less Interceptions, Higher Completion Ratio. When do we realize that we see an all time Great Bill on the Field here already? His 7.000 Carrer Yards rank 8th all time and his 48th TD pass surpassed Doug Flutie for 7th all time in Bills History. Did I mention that he didnt even finish his second Season yet? If Allen keeps improving he should finish Top 5 in all Categorys before he ends his Rookie Contract.
Hot Start and Backfield mess!
Finaly the Buffalo Bills and Coach White have theire well deserved Bye Week. So we finaly got the Chance to talk to Coach Nate White in Person.
Q: Hot Start? 4-0? Kind of remembers of last years 5-1 start. Any fear you could miss the Playoffs again?
A: We defnetly had a good start again. Those 3 Division Wins (Week 1: Patriots, Week 2: Dolfins, Week 3: Jets) really give us a great starting point for week to come. We still want to win this Division and it took us to long already. Last year we had some issue with an lack of experience and bad locker room guys. No we have a different mindset and im confident that we have a shot this time.
Q: Josh Allen had 28 TD passes last year. No he started with only 3 TD Passes in 4 Games. Concerning?
A: Not at all. He had to get more Accurate. We had loads of big Plays last season that where either 50 yard Touchdowns or Incompletions/Interceptions. We kind of wanted to turn them down. And through the first 4 weeks Allen completed more than 65% of his throws. Not bad considering his % Of last Season. (55%). So I think he is in a phase where he has to grow as a passer, he has to get smart with his decisions. So yes, he lacks a few TD passes, wich is not only his Fault. Since we dropped a few Balls in the Endzone already. But with way less Interceptions hes on the right pass for sure.
Q: You're here ruffly 15 Month now and already had 10 different Running Backs under Contract. Whats the issue there?
A: I know 10 is a lot. But sometimes you aint in control. McCoy wanted a fresh start with another Team that wanted him badly. The offer was great, so we could not let that one slip. Ivory just did not match our System and we decided that it was the best way for both sides to move on. And he did see some Playoff Football in Seattle. Then we get to our third/fourth string guys. Bo Scarbrough and DJ Foster. Both had some moments with us. But is was not like they where he to start to begin with. Than we obviously have to talk about Leveon Bell. We had some Issues here, and calling out Teammates just was not the right move. With Henry we had different issues. he just did not fit our Scheme. We thought we could get the best out of him, but after his Week 1 Performence (1.1 yards a carry) we knew we had to move on. Now we have 3 strong guys there to shere the workload (Austin Ekeler, Marlon Mack, CJ Anderson) and we are very happy with our Backfield so I hope 10 will be the Number for at least some years now.
Quarterback Josh Allen breaks All Time Record for TD Passes in a Rookie Season! And enters Bills record Books for an all time great Season aswell!
What a Great Rookie Campaign that Quarterback of Wyoming had! 4.098 Yards and 232 Completions. Also he rushed for 190 yards and a TD on 23 Attempts.
But now his Name will be down in NFL History forever! Since his 28 Passing TDs broke the all time Rookie Record hold by Peyton Manning and Russel Wilson at 26 TDs each.
Allen had 25 TDs coming into Week 17 but managed to toss 3 Touchdown Passes in the Week 17 Upset against the Miami Dolphins. In a Game that took place in an Blizzard Allen managed to get his most accurate Game while nearly breaking the 300 yard mark.
How Impressiv that is for a Bill? He is Second all Time for a Single Season in Franchise History already! Only the legendary Jim Kelly who tossed 33 TDs in 1991 could beat that number at all. And among Bill Rookie Quarterbacks? Oh wow! The Second best Rookie was E.J. Manuel who tossed 11 Touchdowns in 2013. Not even half of Allens Touchdown Passes this year!
And it wont stop there. His 4.098 yards are second place in Franchise History aswell, only being toped by Drew Bledsoe in 2002 who threw for 4359 yards.
What a Year for Josh Allen!
Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots Week 16 Roundup:
The AFC East seems odd this Year. The Patriots are not far ahead and unlike 14 of the last 15 Seasons they probably wont even take the Division!
But it could even get worse for New England. They might even miss the Playoffs!
The Dolphins are a W away from closing this Division.Who would have taken that bet before the Season? Anyone?
So with the Dolphins probably out of reach the Patriots should turn theire Head and look behind them. Why?
Because the Buffalo Bills are sneaking into the Playoff Picture once again.
After Loosing to Jacksonville in Week 12 and at Miami in Week 13 it seemed unlikley that Buffalo will see Playoff Football this Season. But Coach N. White told us right after that Miami Game, that he still believes in a Chance for a Wildcard Spot.
"Its Easy, win all 4 Games, and we will be in!"
A difficult Plan with two tough Games ahead. But his Team did not let him down what so ever. Winning against the Jets and Lions while Scoring 59P combined in those two Weeks. And ending on a 33 - 6 Blowout against Detroit where Allen tossed 3 TDs and Backup Quarterback Chase Littion attempted one Pass, got one Competion for 46 Yards. Obviously for a TD. What a Moment for that young Backup out of Marshall who is, just like Allen, still in his Rookie Season!
Now at 9-5 the Bills are in an Interesting Spot. Still third Place in theire Division but with two divisional Games left. One of them in New England.
But now there is some Pressure on the Patriots that still have to play theire Week 15 Game against the Steelers. One L either this week against Pittsburgh or next Week against the Bills could cost them the Postseason.
For Levion Bell, the Bill HB and former Steeler its an easy task. "We gotta eat, sleep and beat the F****** Patriots!" he screamed into our Mic after the Detroit Game.
Its not the first time this Season that Bell got the Headlines of Multiple Newspaper this Season. Last time in Week 12, callin his Oline "An entire gigantic Bust" after an lackluster Game against Jacksonville.
Early Reports came out this Morning that due to Lockerroom Conflicts Bell might be on his way out of Buffalo after a Single Season.
Ian Rappoport told us that there are some interested Teams including the Colts, Jaguars, Eagles and Titans!
Coach White had this to tell about his Starting Runningback "Levion is a great Player. Still, it's never good to call out Teammates in Public. We gotta make an desicion on that once hit Offseason. Right now he's an importand Part of my Gameplan against New England." Asked about Bells coments about the Patriots White told us with an little smile on his face "I might had chosen different words for it. But isnt he right about that one?"
So the Bills are already Hyped Up for theire Week 16 Matchup.
Update: New England Coach White adresses Bells Comments!
On his Press Conference he got asked if Levion Bells Comments did anything else than motivate his Team. He told us that he is focusing on beating that Steeler Team this week and wont adress any disctraction. "Nothing else matters whether its the last week or the week after. We gotta stick to the gameplan and play week by week."
Since we already discussed some Offensive Rookie of the Year candidates. Now we want to show some Defensive Rookies that already performed very well on the highest level so far.
1) OLB Bradley Chubb | Broncos | 43 Tackles, 11 TFL, 10,5 Sacks, 4 FF
Unstoppable. The only word needed to describe Bradley Chubb. That Rookie already left a mark and will only get better. He got 4 Sacks and 2 TFL in his most productive Game so far. That sounds like a Career Highlight Game already! And Chubb surly has so much more Football left that we doubt it will be his best one ever.
Conclusion: He has to be the Favorite so far. A Monster Season by the soon to be Quarterbacks worst Nightmare.
2) OLB Jerome Baker | Dolphins | 62 Tackles, 6 TFL, 3 INT, 5 Deflections, 4 Sacks
Jerome who? The Dolphins third Round pick really balls out this Season. Its hart to describe him as anything else than a versatile Playmaker. He gets to the Quarterback, can stop the Run and shows some serious coverage Skills. Its really hard to find any hole in his Game so far.
Conclusion: Versatile yeas, but not quite as Dominant as Chubb.
3) CB Minkah Fitzpatrick | Dolphins | 38 Tackles, 3 TFL, 8 Ints, 8 Defelctions, 1 FF
Another Dolphin at #3! This really show how much of an impact that Draft class had on the Miami Defense so far! Minkah is a freaking Ballhawk who had multiple diving Interceptions so far. He comes down with 50% of the defended passes wich is an insane rating! He also flashes abilty to defend the run pretty well. A true lock down Corner.
Conclusion: He is Third Placed so far. But if he keeps those interceptions rolling and maybe stops the run a bit better he can challange Chubb for sure!
4) CB Jaire Alexander | Packers | 37 Tackles, 2 TFL, 7 Ints, 3 Deflections
Oh he was so close to Fitzpatrick! But he seemes to be one off in every Category. One less Tackles, TFL, Int. But still an anwesome Season so far. And with a few Weeks to play left, he can overcome that deficit easy.
Conclusion: Being a top 3 Candidate is one good Game away!
5) MLB Tremain Edmunds | Bills | 57 Tackles | 4 TLF | 6 Ints | 7 Deflections | 1 FF | 1 Fumble Recovery
What cant Edmunds do? Well hes not quite good in rushing the passer I guess? but as the Middle Linebacker in Coach Whites 4-3 Scheme he has other things to do for sure! And he does them quite Well. Loads of Tackles, TFL and a Total of 13 Defended Passes make him a very Versatile playmaker
Conclusion: He got a Similar Season as Dolphins Baker, but without any Sack its hart to put him higher than that.
Honorable Mension:
CB Tre Flowers | Bills | 32 Tackles | 2 TFL | 3 Ints | 13 Deflections
Another Bill to keep an eye on for the last weeks of the 2018 NFL Season. With 13 Deflections hes Second in the Leauge! And far away on Top for all Rokies. With 16 Passes defended total, he and Fitzpatrick Lead the Rookies in that Category. So he also is one Game away of a Top 5 Placement.
It's week 12 of the 2019 NFL Season!
And now we begin to break down 5 Favorites for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
1) Quarterback Josh Allen | Bills | 2630 Yards, 19 Tds, 10 Games
The Rookie out of Wyoming balls out this Season. Leading the League in Pass Yards while still has a Game to Play this Week unlike his competition. With 2630 Yards he averages just 263 passing yards a Game while his 19 TD Passes rank among the top 5 in the League. But surly this Rookie QB isnt without his flaws, tossing 23 INTs already and completing just 57% of his passes.
Conclusion: May be in Pole Position to get that Trophy right now, but the Bills have a tough schedule left and its questionable if he can perform at this level until the end of the Season!
2) Running Back Rashaad Penny | Seahawks | 866 Yards, 8 Tds, 4,8 Yards per Carry
Many Experts assumed that the Seattle Seahawks adress theire Backfield in the first Round of the 2018 NFL Draft. And they did! And boy what an explosive Running Back they got! Penny who was Namend the NFC Offensive Player of the week in Week 2 and 8 finaly managed to get some Pressure of Russel Willson who had an League Low 4 Interceptions till week 11. Penny already is nearly 200 yards Rushing in front of every other Rookie Back while also Caught 26 Balls for 339 Yads and 2 TDs. This versitile Playmaker already left his mark and will surley only get better.
Conclusion: May not as highly rated as Allen right now, he is a solid and reliable workhorse for Seattle. And since the Bills will have a tough schedule left and Penny being as consistend as he seems to be, it would not shock anybody if he takes this Trophy home!
3) Quarterback Josh Rosen | Cardinals | 2386 Yards, 19 TDs, 62% Comp
We decided to put Rosen on third place. Shoking that a Rookie that will hit 3.500 yards for sure and already tossed 19 TDs to only 6 Interceptions did not rank first in our list. But with a strong 2018 Rookie Class he just has some tough Competition. Rosen really impresses with his poise and consitency. Despite being sacked 27 times alredy (most among Rookies) he still has a the highest Completion Ratio of the top 4 Rookie QBs (Mayfield 61, Darnold 60, Allen 57) with 62%. The other stat that really stands out are the 6 Interceptions. No other first round Quarterback is even near that strech with all of them tossing at least 10 Interceptions (L. Jackson) and up to 33 Interceptions (Darnold)
Conclusion: May be a footstep behind Allen right now and has a tough race with the dual threat Penny, he still is in a very solid third place after all. If Allen stops performing or Penny gets hurt, he will be #1 in no time.
4) Tight End Dallas Goedert | Bills | 701 rec Yards, 1 TD, 10 Games
Another Bill? Yes! Since it is hard to find a performing Rookie Receiver this year, we are glad that we at least got some Tight Ends that stand out. One of them, another one maybe following next, is Dallas Goedert. He is maybe one of the main reasons that Allen got off to a hot start. The 6'4 tall Offensive Player caught 45 Passes for 701 yards. Whats really interesting about it? over 250 yards are RAC yards. Not bad for a Tight End of his statue!
Conclusion: Yes 4th place, but even though Place 1-3 are within a foot or so, the 4th place really falls off. Still a Great Season so far!
5) Tight End Mike Gesicki | Dolphins | 687 rec Yards, 1 TD, 11 Games
Oh thats a Close one! Could he be #4? Maybe! But we decided that Goedert was a little bit better so far. Still Gesicki managed to Catch 41 Balls for 687 Yards and a TD. Not bad for a Rookie TE in an offense that does not get Vertical a lot.
Conclusion: Oh he nearly ended up 4th! But Goedert beats him in every Category by a few Yards, Receptions etc. But same as Goedert he has a insane Rookie Campain but if nothing Crazy happens he wont be in the Discussion for the Trophy once Season ends.
Honorable mention!
Quarterback Sam Darnold | Jets | 2213 Yards 12 TDs | 60% Comp
Oh it hurts to see him injured. For weeks he battled Allen for the Top Spot on this list but now we cant really put him on it anymore. In the Game against Allens Bills he got hammerd by Defensive Tackle Shaq Lawson and will miss 4 Weeks with a Shoulder Tear. Lucky for the Jets one of those weeks was the Bye in week 11. But still, he will miss out 3 Games and we doubt that he will climb back to the Top while only being able to perform 13 Games.
