In what felt like a game dominated by defense and injuries, it took big 3rd down conversions by the Seahawks to pull out a tough win.
It was a true test for UDFA RT John Baldwin as he was matched up against elite DE Cam Jordan. And if we’re being honest he didn’t do well against the monster that is Cam Jordan. Jordan dominated the first half of the game. He was constantly in the backfield either putting pressure on Russ or tackling runners for a loss. T Baldwin was definitely a project, but it’s gonna be a long year for him if Jordan is constantly get instant sheds like he did. Luckily the Seahawks front office predicted that Baldwin might struggle and snagged old head Marcus Cannon to step in.
After a struggle first half, that probably shoulda ended with Russ getting sacked multiple times, Baldwin found himself watching from the sidelines. Even if Cannon only helped a bit, it was plenty for Russ to not have to run for his life like Pat Mahomes.
On the defensive side of the ball, both the Saints and Seahawks had good showings stopping the pass. Known as pass first offenses, both teams made good adjustments and ran the ball well. It felt like the Saints OL was really dominating the game, so the Seahawks had to look to their DBs to help. Luckily the young CBs did their job shutting down Mike Thomas for most of the game. But when you shut down weapon you have to expect another to go off.
AK47 definitely took over the game offensively. If he wasn’t running it he was catching the ball out of the backfield. Clearly Bobby Wagner is not a great pass coverage LB anymore!
It will be interesting to see if the young CBs Griffin and Dorsey can continue to shut down future elite WRs.
He may be small buts he got heart and maybe the spark the Seahawks offense needs. After a poor showing from the offense since late last season when they lost their starting HB, the Seahawks needed a spark at the HB position. After snagging an interesting prospect during FA it looked that second year HB Nathan Cottrell was primed to be the full-time starter after a great preseason. But an interesting rookie has been making waves in the organization.
The late 5th round pick, Pooka Williams was originally supposed to be a gadget guy, but he’s starting to turn heads after another good game vs the Titans. The real test will definitely be against Saints in the coming week though as they will be raring to prove themselves against the defending Super Bowl champ Seahawks.
The Saints are well known for their passing attack, and the Seahawks are well known for their inability to stop the pass. After letting CBs Quinton Dunbar and Tre Flowers go, one to FA and the other via trade. The Seahawks look to three young thundercats to take over and probably take their lumps. Mike Thomas will probably be routing them up, but they have potential!
Not only is the Seahawks secondary essentially in shambles, but the offensive line returns one starter from their iconic Super Bowl run. As a result, the Seahawks hoped to sign some experienced talent for the low, they ended up getting none. So a move had to be made and after seeing how well the Vikings did at building their OL, they had to reach out. Snagging two mid round rookies from the Vikings, one of which was cut, seemed like the best long term plan for the Seahawks. Neither player is a scale-tipper but we hope they’ll develop into decent players.
This week’s game against the Saints will truly show what kinda season the Seahawks are going to have.
As the offseason/preseason come to a close, it’s interesting to go around the league and see which rookies have carved themselves out as “better than expected” draft diamonds.
First we have to go to one of the teams who had probably the best draft (and the number one pick), the NY Jets. After a great rookie camp both G Bobby Lowry and TE Drew Long have proven to be way better than the 3rd and 4th round value they were taken at. Long has a unique skill set not often seen in rookie tight ends. His ability to block along with his athleticism reminds a lot of pundits of a young George Kittle. Keep an eye on this kid. He’s going places.
Next we have DE Pat Ramsey from OSU who was snagged by the Cardinals late in 6th round might be the freak of the draft. Crafted from the same mold as Myles Garrett and Chase Young, Ramsey posses a super athleticism that surprised a lot of people. Unfortunately that athleticism didn’t outshine his poor tape and lack of play time at OSU. Ramsay showed this preseason he is indeed ready for the pros though. Expect him to play decent snaps for the Cards.
After what looked to be a struggle draft for the Eagles front office, there was some relief when WR Ronnie Bell was picked for them. Bell didn’t jump off the page in any category but the slot receiver is super solid. He has a great ability to change direction and get in and out of his cuts. After easily winning a starting spot in a poor Eagles WR core, Bell might be the next slot WR to keep eyes on, ala Wes Welker.
There’s a few more players who after a very strong preseason and rookie camp are definitely showing they’re diamonds in the rough, if I was you I’d check your squad to see if you got one. ????
What a draft! Safe to say it was an exciting night. A lot of teams reloaded, and some of the tankers have built their squads back up to become possible playoff contenders.
As the King, I watched from afar as my subjects squabbled over the likes of Lawrence, Fields and Lance. Little did they know, all 3 of them were superstar development. A nice treat for anyone who decided to reach for Lance. Little did we know the top 3 picks would be QBs. Players like Surtain and Sewell took a big slide as they were unable to throw as well as the top 3 picks. Very surprising to see Zach Wilson go at 5 overall though. It was expected that the Raiders would get a LB like Parsons at 5 on our mock draft. Waddle going to the New York Football Giants at 4 was somewhat of a surprise considering how deep the WR class was, but Waddle has something that can’t be taught, speed.
Initial reactions were pretty knee jerk when everyone saw Waddle’s speed but the king made sure there wasn’t anyone over 95 speed and only like 3 guys with 94 speed. As we all know in Madden, speed rules. So it was no surprise to see Dylan Moses go top 10, the only issue with Moses is since after his injury he hasn’t been the same player. Will he live up to the hype? We’ll see.
Steal of the first round had to have been either Rosseau going at 21 or the second best prospect in Kyle Pitts going at 14(!). Hard to believe a literal freak of nature would slide so far. The man is literally a guaranteed jump ball winner! I know if I had the ability to trade up to get him I would’ve.
On a final note, this reporter is ecstatic to see two superstar Oregon Ducks go in the first round, though we are sad to see Sewell go to a division rival. He will have to deal with the physical freak that is Super Bowl MVP Michael Hoecht though.

The Seahawks travelled down to Atlanta to open up the 2020 NFL Season and found themselves in a super wishy washy game.
After having control for most of the first half, Atlanta decided to throw a screen to end the half probably hoping to get a few yards and FG range. Little did they know that Todd Gurley would go Prime Bo Jack and embarrass the Seattle defense by scoring a 70 yard TD with less than 20 seconds on the clock. Not only that, he made All Pro, Future HOF, All World, Best MLB in the NFL, Bobby Wagner look like a child on the play by simply shrugging off his tackle attempt. Maybe Atlanta got a deal deal when the Rams cut Gurley.
Maybe not, Gurley ended up being the Falcons leading receiver as the Seahawks secondary essentially removed Calvin Ridley from the game. Of course they couldn’t do the same to Julio because he’s 1 of 1. Seattle struggled most with ex-Seattle Seahawk WR Paul Richardson who continually found himself behind the Seahawks cover 3. Cover 3 has now been tossed from the playbook.
Keep a look out for the Falcons new coach he is a solid user who may or may not whine about his Ls.
The biggest takeaway for Seattle after their week 1 matchup is the loss of Superstar WR DK Metcalf. DK seemingly hurt his hamstring and will be evaluated on Monday to see the severity.
Check back in with us next week to know DK’s status.
The Seattle Seahawks biggest issue this year has been the run game. With Russ “cooking” the Seattle offense hasn’t felt the need to really run the ball as much as they used to. Being that the Seahawks new head coach is a Pete Carroll understudy you’d expect them to pound the rock.
With Chris Carson on a contract year and coming off injury, Seattle doesn’t look too excited with him as the future starting HB. The same goes for former 1st round pick Rashad Penny, though they’re a bit more excited about Penny.
After a difficult showing against the Falcons, Penny definitely felt his starting position was in danger. A few highlight plays from Penny wasn’t enough to secure the starting spot in Coach YaBoy’s eyes. After working out a few players, YaBoy seemed really happy with HB Khalfani Muhammad. The 4th year man out of Cal has the measurables to possibly make a splash in the NFL under the right coach.
After moving DK Metcalf to IR, Muhammad was added to the Seahawk roster and made an immediate impact in practice. His short practice week showed Coach YaBoy that Muhammad deserved some snaps in their week 2 matchup with the Pats.
Check back in with FieldOfHawks next week to see how Muhammad played!
