The Bears were struggling this season at 0-2 just a short while ago and looking for answers in one of the tougher divisions in football. After defeating the Cowboys and Jets in back to back weeks in order to get back to .500, they focused their attention on the New York Giants on Sunday.
The Bears delivered on both sides of the ball with a 35-7 victory over the Giants Sunday. Mitch Trubisky was strong with a 220 yard, 3 td performance, while safety Adrian Amos scored on the defensive side with a pick 6 for a td early on. Next week they'll face division rival Detroit in a key matchup that will go a long way towards determining the division champion.
The New York Giants struggled early and often on Sunday and couldn't solve the Bears defense en route to a 4 interception game. Tight End Evan Engram scored their only td by using his blazing speed to torch the Bears OLB for a long touchdown. The Giants have hired long time NFL offensive guru Blairsbassist as a consultant to help get the offense back on track. The Giants will look for big things from their offense once the new offense gels!
The Steelers were looking to keep their playoff hopes alive going into Sunday night’s Primetime matchup by holding their ground at home against the Chicago Bears, but the Steelers could never get the offense going. Their star halfback Leveon Bell could only muster 55 yards, and Dak Prescott threw 2 ints and no tds as the Bears defense stood strong. After the game, Coach Mark told us – “To come out in front of our home crowd and give that kind of effort is just embarrassing. We need to bounce back strong or else we’re going to need to make some changes.”
The Steelers fall to 4-8 and will travel next to Oakland to play the 9-3 Raiders in hopes of playing spoiler in the AFC West division race.
As for the Bears, while it was a sound victory in Pittsburgh on Sunday night, it was also a day that left the Bears scratching their heads about the halfback position going forward. Both Tarik Cohen and Jordan Howard left the game and are out for extended periods. While the Bears have been running the ball well this season with the #4 ranked rushing attack in the league, they’ll now look to rookie HB Davante Rone to carry on the rushing success the remainder of the season. On the bright side, the Bears star WR Allen Robinson had his best game of the season on Sunday, catching 6 balls for 222 yds and 2 TD’s. In addition, the Bears LOLB Sherwin Munnerlyn continued his strong season with a sack and a forced fumble in the win.
Chicago moves to 9-3, and will face the Seahawks (3-7-1) in Seattle next week. The Bears will look to position themselves for a playoff run in the coming weeks.
Going into their cross-conference matchup in week 11, the Bears were sporting a record of 6-3 whereas the Browns were sitting at 3-6. While the Bears were trying to keep pace with the red hot Packers, the Browns were attempting to stay in the playoff picture by securing a huge road victory at chilly Soldier Field.
On their first drive, the Browns had great success moving the ball down the field with a very effective rushing attack. But upon reaching the redzone, the Browns star rookie HB Perry Murdock put the ball on the ground and the ball ended up in the Bears hands. This would be his first of two fumbles on the night. He told ESPN after, "I need to secure the football, that's what coach preaches every practice and I didn't do that today." The Browns now head to Denver next week to face off against the Broncos at Mile High. Murdock will look for redemption in the high altitude on Sunday afternoon.
Mitch Trubisky had been what most analysts would tell you is "average" this season. His completion % was at a career low coming into the game, and he had only thrown 13 tds through 9 games. He answered the call on both fronts, connecting with Allen Robinson twice for touchdowns in the matchup en route to 3 total for the game. He finished with 12/17 for 287 yards and 3 tds on the day. After the game, he spoke to NFL Network about his performance: "You know it feels really good to get the win, doesn't really matter how we do it at this point. But it does feel great to come out and execute the gameplan well - that's why we put in the time ya know...."
Chicago secured the 34-14 victory and are hoping to build on that success. The Bears will now travel to Detroit to face off in a key division matchup against their rival the Lions. Trubisky will look to stack his succes in two straight matchups.
