The Jets were inspired by this, this week. Everywhere they went that's all they saw. The Jets gutsy play calling finally pulled off this game by going for it on fourth leaving the Redskins with about 24 seconds left on the clock. The Jets quarterback Geno Smith already knows that this game could have went anyway because of his two unfortunate turnovers back to back series, one leading to a td and another that put them in great field position to get a td. The Jets look to clean up the turnover situation next week when they play the Patriots.
Earlier today when the Jets arrived to Mile High Staduim you could see how determined Geno is, thinking about pulling off something that the former starting quarterback of the Jets Mark Sanchez. Geno's numbers haven't been spectacular but he keeps on pushing and driving through the tough times. He has struggled with turning the ball over but he showed last week that he was able to rise to the occassion. Ines Sainz was able to catch up with Geno and asked him how does he feel being in the position that he is in, Geno stated, " I'm ready for any obstacle thrown in my way, this is definitely a large one, not too many can say that they have the opportunity to go to the Superbowl by surpassing one of the greatest QB's ever Peyton Manning. I mean last year when I was in college I was in my dorm watching the playoffs and was shocked to see that Baltimore was able to pull it off with a last minute miracle play, seems like when the game is on the line everyone steps up to the occassion, hopefully I can do the same and bring my team to the SuperBowl. We'll see what happens, J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS."
The weeks match-up lead up to a devastating loss of the sacking star LOLB Kindle to 2 weeks with broken ribs despite coming out on top with the win. The Jets came into the game knowing that it wasn't going to be an easy task at hand, especially knowing the fact that the GM for the Raiders is brothers with the powerhouse in the NFC Norths Vikings GM. The Jets were expecting to see some of the same stats that Jets GM Maag has been seeing from the Vikings. Jets GM made sure that Coach Rex Ryan had the D on the same page because he knew this wasn't going to be a walk in the park. The game started off with the Jets with the ball and QB rookie Geno Smith driving the ball down the field with a few of his scrambles but mostly with being patient in the pocket waiting to have plays develope. The Jets were able to get the ball out to WR Kerley for a TD that started the game at a 7-0 score. Then the Jets defense hit the field they were bringing pressure but were cautious due to the speed of Pryor and all that talk they've been hearing about Oaklands read option game. They were able to stop the Raiders from getting anything going and were able to stop them on a drive that lead to a punt, needless to say the man that denied the contract offered HB McKnight showed the team why he feels as if he's worth more than what was offered by taking back a punt return for a TD for 65 yards. Oakland took note of that and made sure to not give Mcknight any more opportunities that game by punting the ball out of bounds the rest of the game. So after the first it was 14-0, the Jets were able to get the score differential all the way to a 21-0 lead but then the Raiders made sure that they weren't gonna let that lead last , by driving the ball down to score a field goal under the 2 minute warning, the very next play Mcknight takes the ball out of the endzone and coughs the ball up which lead to a Raiders touchdown. The Jets went into the lockerroom only being up by 11, Coach Rex Ryan was furious about how they gave up a 21-0 lead to a 21-10 score within 2 minutes, Ryan made it known that he wasn't happy with the actions he took in the lockerroom because Ryan knows that GM Maag is expecting greatness due to the lack of success the last two seasons and the faith that Ryan had in former first round draft pick Mark Sanchez. Halftime was up and Oakland got the ball and they were pounding the ball out in the 3rd, Oakland made sure that they were gonna try to wear out the Jets defense, the Jets defense were on the field most of the 3rd on the same drive that started the 3rd. Then finally the 4th quarter came and the Jets were determined to try to put the stake through the heart of the Oakland Raiders after the disappointing 2nd Qtr that they had, however the Jets were unable to truly capatilize in the way that they wanted but they were able to come back strong and force several turnovers, in the third Qtr the jets were able to force two fumbles on McFadden and then in the 4th Antonio Cromartie was able to intercept the ball in the redzone to seal the deal with the victory. The Jets have a huge task at hand next week when they face the Carolina Panthers, there is history between these two GM's former coaches, one coached for the team that he is now the GM for, and the other was successful at bringing the 49ers back to that Superbowl powerhouse that they were in the past. This will be a classic to come.
The Jets defense made a statement this game, prior to this game the Jets defense was listed as the number one overall defense and they felt like that they had to prove to everyone why they are. The Jets started the game off on defense and force Joe Flace to force an interception in his first series to D.Landry which has been excelling throughout the season with his way to read the play. Coach Rex Ryan was wondering how exactly would the brother of Laron Landry would fit his scheme so he signed a young back up Sands, needless to say they haven't had to play the young guy yet. After that interception Geno Smith took the field and marched the ball down the field for a quick score and capitalized on the great field position. Then the Jets defense hit the field again, after putting some fear into Flaco from the first series it looked like they were gonna put their faith in Ray Rice, he started to have a nice drive going then the number 1 draft pick from last year Quinton Coples came up and laid a devastating hit on Raice which cause him to cough up the ball on the second series, once this happened the Ravens knew they were gonna have a long day. Then being down in the second quarter the Ravens started to have a nice push but were stopped on a 3rd and inches and then Baltimore tried to come away with some points by calling out Justin Tucker to take the field, needless to say the kick was about shy of a yard to far left of the post so they came up empty. At halftime Coach Ryan made the statement that he is proud to see his team getting back to play that hard nose d. He was extremely proud of the secondary locking down the team to the point where Flaco made only 8 attempts to pass the ball with only 3 completions with a total of 2 yards. It seemed like Coach Harbough lost all faith in Flaco and decided to abandon the passing game and just hand the ball off to Rice and Pierce. The Jets didn't do so bad stopping the run considering how many plays the big guys were playing in the game, and they were able to accomplish the fact of not allowing the Ravens to get in the redzone at all that game. However one thing that Ryan wish he would have done was pull out some of his key players, they had several injuries that hurt this week with Kyle Wilson , Sheldon Richardson and Jeff Cumberland all going down for several weeks. So next week will be a test to see if the rookie cb Terry Hawthorne can step up and fill the shoes of Kyle Wilson while he recovers, and the Jets signed former Patriot Jermaine Cunningham to build some depth at RE to help take snaps with John Abraham. The Jets are still soaring high and ready for the next couple of weeks that involve Miami, Oakland, the undefeated Carolina Panthers, the Browns and finishing the regular season against Miami.
The Jets decided that they didn't need Randy Moss and decided to trade him away for future draft picks, the Jets GM is so confident in his teams success that he wanted to try to get higher draft picks by trading Moss with them, so the Jets trade their 1st,2nd, and Moss for Baltimores 1st(NE) , Baltimores 2nd and 3rd. The Jets see high potentional with this trade they were able to execute.
After two weeks of football, the Jets defense were able to bounce back and put the Jets back at number 1 on the power rankings with a powerful and explosive defensive performance. The Jets started out the season at number 2 in the power rankings then dropped down to number 4 after week 1 but bounced back to number 1 for week 3. The Jets are ready to get their second division game in hoping to finish week 3 at 3-0.
The Jets came into the game with one mindset and that was to embarrass the Patriots on their homefield, especially after last seasons game. They wanted to show everyone that they could rise above and that's what they did. The first half started out in the favor of the Jets by putting up on offense 21 pts alone in the first quarter and watching Stephen Gostkowski miss 2 fgs, with Geno Smith leading the way. However in the 2nd qtr being down by 28-0 Brady took a risky chance of going for it on fourth down on the 1 yd line and going for it, and nearly came up with no pts. Then it was off to the races in the third qtr with NE trying to attempt to get something started but all they could do is get the ball in fg territory while the Jets were able to get the ball going in the air and on the ground with Mike Goodson trucking along. Defense stepped it up in the third and fourth for the Jets though those two qtrs alone the jets were able to cause 4 turnovers 3 interceptions and 1 forced fumble, however the man that shined on defense was the guy that made it clear how he felt about Brady, of course that would be Antonio Cromartie. We were able to speak with Cromartie after the game and he said, " I told you all Brady isn't @$#*, he tried to force the ball in there twice and I came away with it, one of the ones I should of had 6 but that's ok, I have faith in my QB, he may not have the ideal numbers as of yet but he did pull off a victory and his rating wasn't bad." After the game comparing the rookie Smith to Brady, Smith's Passer rating was 126 v.s. Brady's 25.5 , needless to say this game is gonna take awhile for them to get over and I can only imagine what the next meeting will be like in Meadowlands Stadium.
This weeks game of the week comes down to the New England Partriots and the New York Jets. After hearing about the article that came out of Foxborough, it did not take long for there to be responses back. Especially talking about last years embarassing performance on Thanksgiving which lead to the ever so famous "butt fumble" by Mark Sanchez. We were able to speak with Antonio Cromartie about his thoughts about this weeks game and how does he feel about Tom Brady and management, Cromartie said, "last seasons game was a fluke, everything that could go wrong did, however this year we have a great GM that brought in some really great talent to help our team out, and as far as Tom Brady goes, he's a great quarterback but he needs to learn to stop crying so much, mine line is blocking for me, I have no time, quit making excuses, it's real simple, STEP UP OR SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!"
So today the Jet's played a very impressive game despite not really shining when it came to offense, they were able to cap off a victory against Tampa Bay. It started off as a closely contested battle, however the man that took over as the number one cornerback Cromartie came up with an insational one handed interception in the first quarter which lead to a New York touchdown. Needless to say it wasn't long for Tampa to strike back and get in scoring territory to cap off a fg kick. They went back and forth taking turns scroing , Jets answered back with a rushing td and then Tampa got in scoring range again and kicked a fg kick. It became a shootout. Score at half ended up being 17 to 6 Jets on top. The start of the third qtr the jets would receive the ball, they started to ground and pound the ball with Goodson however he coughed up the ball in the jets redzone area which lead to a Tampa td. However the Jets were able to answer back with a few more offensive td, and a few big turnovers which sealed the deal and lead up to two more tds. After the game Cromartie went up and shook the man's hand that he is now replacing, simply gave him a congrats on sealing that big deal with Tampa and jokingly said ,"It's all about Cromartie Island Now!!!!."
After a poor display of defense within the first two preseason games GM Cletus Maag decided to speak with Head Coach Rex Ryan in upgrading the defense to assist with the passing, GM Maag told Ryan who he wanted to obtain and Rex advised that he would probably have to give up a little more than what he'd like but GM Maag insisted to chase after the honey badger Tyrann Mathieu despite all the controversy off the field. So the jets trade TE Kellen Winslow and the 3rd and 4th rd picks for 2014 for FS Tyrann Mathieu and Arizona's 3rd and 5th rd picks for 2014
