A Fresh Start

After a 25 to 4 vote. FGA elected to restart. It was a sad day, many players and teams that had been built up were lost. Legends such as Douglas Roundtree, Dixon Mixon, Dwayne Archer, Russell Fine, and Sanchez Stovall are gone. A few coaches stepped down as well. They had put to much time and effort into building their teams. With the likes of Browning (Steelers), Tim (Titans), Clark (Bucs), David Reid (Panthers), and Roger (Falcons). They retired and moved on. 4 of these members were top competitors as the each made playoffs multiple times with the Steelers even making a Super Bowl appearence. The restart left behind what was a glorious run and many memorable moments. Derricks unexpected rise as he took the title in season one. Luciano's upset as he defeated the undefeated Lions in the Super Bowl even though he was the 6th seed. And finally the creation of the Detroit Dynasty as the ruled the NFC appearing in all 4 Super Bowls and winning the last two back to back. This league was made because I didn't like what I saw in VFL. It was a great run...

BUT ITS NOT OVER. New users have joined the battle such as Montrell and Avery. They join FGA to try and cement their names among the FGA greats. The draft was a bit crazy. From Browning and Reids retirements after picking their teams. To Jack quitting midway through the draft after learning he couldn't trade Zeke. Jacob Murray being the real MVP and taking the 49ers with the 6th overall pick. And finally me ONCE AGAIN getting the 30th pick and ending up with the dumpster fire that is the Colts (I swear to God if I win the Super Bowl, I'm quitting Madden. I'm not joking). The playing field has been set back to default. New users, new teams. How will this FGA restart shape the history of the league? We shall see.......

Third Times a Charm

Matthew Stafford had finally reached the Super Bowl. He was one game away from the ultimate goal. Winning it all. The only team that stood in his way? The Denver Broncos. By the time the clock rolled down to zero the Broncos had repeated and Stafford was left questioning what this team had to do to finally win. 2017, new season. Stafford was more motivated than ever to bring the title home to Detroit. He managed to reach the Super Bowl game once again and was a huge favorite as his undefeated Lions took on the underdog Jets. Once again though, the Lions were defeated and Stafford was more heartbroken than anything...

2018. This is the year. If the Lions didn't win the Super Bowl they probably never would under Staffords leadership. The mental road block 3 losses in a row would cause him would be devastating. The Steelers arrived as the AFC opponent. This one was personal. Steelers star wide receiver, Douglas Roundtree, was the Lions projected pick until the Steelers pulled a last second switch and took him. The Lions had to make sure he couldn't beat them. Darius Slay was called upon and he answered. Late in the game, the Lions up 3, he intercepted Big Ben on a pass intended for Roundtree. The Lions were able to take another field goal to go up 6. One minute remained. The Steelers had 0 timeouts so the Lions defense knew they were going to be tested deep. First play, Roundtree grabbed a 40 yard bomb to put the Steelers at mid field. A few plays later was the deciding moment. Roundtree was sent on a streak to the corner of the endzone. Slay was in the coverage. Big Ben lofted it up, both players jumped for it and the heroic Darius Slay sealed the game for the Lions with a pick that would be remembered in Super Bowl and Lions history forever. The happiest man on the field was Matthew Stafford. He dropped to his knees and cried tears of joy. He had finally done it. The Lions had won the Super Bowl.

Rookie Spotlight | John Scafe

With the second overall pick the Detroit Lions select….. John Scafe, Linebacker, Pittsburgh.

The draft was right around the corner. The day before the Lions had traded up for the second overall pick. The consensus was that the number overall pick had to be Robey Moncrief, the special corner out of Stanford that was not only the clear cut best player in the draft, but filled a major need for the Steelers who held the number one overall pick. The Lions choices were limited. They had just come off a Super Bowl loss and didn’t have much to improve. The pick was clear though. The last time the Lions had selected at the number 2 pick they took future Hall of Fame wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Johnson retired a few years prior and they still had a hole at receiver. Douglas Roundtree mirrored Calvin in almost everyway. He is a towering 6’6” receiver with a perfect blend of speed and strength and a dominance in the air that is highly coveted. Then the Steelers had a change of heart when it came time to pick. Roundtree’s name was called number 1. The Lions scrambled in their war room. They were prepared for this situation but never thought it would actually occur. Who do they take now?

John Scafe was called. The young linebacker out of Pittsburgh was a boom or bust talent and many criticized Detroit for the pick. He has great size, power, and is a monster for a run defense. But he lacks speed, coverage skills and many said he was a slow learner and would not be able to adjust to the NFL.

Well the title of this article probably reveals how his career has gone so far. Scafe not only has adjusted to the NFL but exceled. He has played both inside and outside line backer for the lions and currently leads the league in interceptions with 14. He is doing what he always does when it comes to shutting down the run and he has proven his critics wrong. Under the management and staff in Detroit he has become one of the best young Line Backers in the league. This kid will have a long career. He currently leads the NFC race for Defensive Player of the Year, Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Linebacker of the Year. This kid is something special….. and he is only 21 years old. The sky is the limit from here.

Dismay in Detroit

Last week the Detroit Lions played the Miami Dolphins. The young talent in Detroit really shined as rookies John Scafe and Malik Samuels put up huge numbers. Scafe finished with 4 Ints while Samuels had 200+ receiving yards and 4 TDs.

After the game wide receiver Marvin Jones was asked about his lack of targets this season as Detroit seems to be moving towards younger talent in the WR corp. Jones was quoted saying "Honestly its an issue with me. I feel like the coaches are picking plays that don't put me in the best position to make a play and Matthew [Stafford] seems to be building great chemistry with some of the other guys. I love that our team is winning but I want to be out there making plays too!"

First FGA Blog Post

Daddy League's has this awesome new feature of each user being able to make blogs posts. It would be awesome if a good portion of the league flexed their creativity every now and then and reported a story about their team. Whether its a break out performance from a player, a rising young star, a sudden injury that changes everything, whatever the story is about, it would be awesome to see articles keep on coming out to add extra content to the league that anyone can do. So DO IT :)
