Vikings dominate the Chiefs in a 48-14 game, Adam Thielen blows up again for 8 receptions 174 yards and 2 TDs.. people are starting to ask, could A WR be the next MVP? Who knows, only time will tell. Cousins has another huge game with a 157.3 passer rating, throws for 284 yards and 5TDs, the Vikings ran for 132 rushing yards with 4 different RB, and people started asking, is this the turning point for the Defense, holding the former MVP to less than 200 yards passing, and 3 picks with only 2 TDs. The 3 picks were by rookie Jaybess Ferguson, and 2nd year players Holton Hill and Mike Hughes. This is going to be an exciting 2nd half of the season.
Next up the Cowboys for week 10
Coach Winters had some choice words about his defense to start the game and begin the 4th Quarter. But then when asked about his offense he stated “the deserve a day off” every time the defense gave up a score the offense bailed them out, 559 total yards, they had a solid Run and Pass game, 157 yards rushing with a 3 back plan, and 402 yards passing, with newly acquired Taylor Gabriel and Veteran Adam Thielen proving they are forces in this pass happy league. Cousins threw a total of 5 TDs and 2 INTs not amazing but a pretty solid performance. Taylor Gabriel was open quite often with 7 catches and utilized that speed for 216 yards closing it with 2 TDs. Adam Thielen didn’t say a word while the Raiders were talking all sorts of shit during the 1st quarter. He burned them for 8 catches 171 yards and another 3 TD game. Unfortunately after 7 carries for 55 yards Cook dislocated his knee, but here is Mattison’s chance to take over and run away with the starting job.
on Defense well... 28 points is a lot to give up, (2TDs were kick returns), Antonio Brown was allowed to torch Xavier Rhodes for 137 yards and 2 TDS, but as rough as it looked at points Harry Hitman came up clutch, of his 4 tackles 2 fumbles were forced, and a pick to go with that, rookie Jabyess Ferguson also had a FF, Mike Hughes coming off a torn ACL had won the slot job recovered all 3 fumbles, the D definitely needs to get in the backfield to be successful as they only had 1 sack and the Raiders QB was able to just sit and sit until someone opened up.
Next week a huge division game, we take on Kahlil Mack and the Chicago Bears for the division lead. The return of Taylor Gabriel to soldier field could be interesting as long as Cousins can get a little bit of time to get him the ball.
Week 2 is in the books folks, another game, another high scoring bout. Kirk Cousins started the game like he did week 1 with a bad interception. However he quickly recovered and forgot about it the following drive. Cousins and Thielen’s chemisty is undisputed white another monster game by the duo. Thielen has an uncanny act to wiggle his way open when being covered 1 on 1, and the scary thing is if they decide to double team him, Diggs is on the other end ready to pick up the slack. The big question is will the Vikings be able to find that elusive 3rd WR they have been searching for... time will tell. I’m the end Cousins went 15-20 313 yards, 5 TDs, 1 INT, Thielen has 7 Rec 179 yards 3 TDs ina. Huge passing game for the Vikings...
... but what is a passing game without a run game, coach Winters has been preaching all week about how he needs to get the run game rolling. And boy did they try.... and succeed, sort of. The game plan was to get Dalvin Cook rolling and early at that, but the Packers did a great job at holding him for the most part to 10 rushes 58 yards, however Rookie back up running back Alexander Mattison shined breaking big run after big run, while bruising his way for the 1 yard gains that Cook was unable to do. Winters said in the press conference after the game Mattison has a real shot at taking over as the lead back if he continues to play like that. In the end he had 14 carries 114 yards and 1 TD..
but as great as the offense was the Defense struggled against the Packers air attack, Rhodes had a clutch INT in the end zone and they were able to make Rodgers look very uncharteristic normally one of the most accurat QBs in the league was 16-29 with 1 INT. Danielle Hunter is one of the bright spots of this Defense, consistently in the backfield, with a whopping 4 sacks in this game, Harrison Smith being Harry running all over the field forcing incompletions, 4 tackles and a huge Forced Fumble all in all not a horrible game, but needs some improvements.
Next week we take on the Raiders... if you recall it was a nail biter in the scrimmage during the off-season.
This week 1 bout will go down in history with one of the wildest journeys in NFL history. It all began with a kickoff at 12:00pm cst, the Falcons boot the ball to Mike Hughes who is returning from an ACL injury last season. He returns it to the 25 yard line and the vikes offense gets underway. After 2 solid runs by Dalvin Cook it’s 1st and 10 on the Vikings 32 yard.line, Cousins drops back to pass, and throws an INT that was returned for a touchdown, Vikings down 7-0, after another INT the next drive Cousins is in trouble, the falcons bring it back to 14-0, next drive the Vikings punt the ball, falcons get held to a FG and it’s 17-0 it’s time to turn things around, on a Streak Thielen grabs the ball for a 60+ yard TD and it’s 17-3, fast forward to the 4th quarter and the Vikings are on a roll, there offense can’t be stopped, trading blows with the falcons with an occasional stop by the defense, and the score gets to 38-30 Vikings lead, with 3 sacks by both Hunter and Griffen and Thielen and Diggs both at over 4 catches 150 yards and 2TDs. Falcons roll all the way to the 1 yard line with 20 seconds left 0 timeouts. Then BAM the largest EMP to ever hit the United States shuts down the power corrupting everything. All stats are lost, no one knows what happened. After much deliberation with the powers at be, it is decided to recreate the last 20 seconds and overtime if need be. Falcons pound the ball in and get the 2 pt conversion. The Vikings receive to start overtime. They can’t get anything rolling and are forced to punt.. it’s not looking good. The falcons roll down field get to the Vikings 30, 1st down, in an attempt to make an easier kick for the Kicker they hand the ball to Darius Geuice, next thing you know like the blink of an eye BAM Kendricks gets in the backfield, hits the ball with his helmet! It’s a fumble! Kendricks recovers! And starts running, he could go all the way! Touchdown Vikings, Vikings win a wild one. At this point even that won’t be counted in the stat books. But no one cares a win is a win.
The Vikings started the season an abysmal 0-3 en route to another lost season. Before week 4 the phone rang for the GM of the Vikings asking if they were willing to trade newly acquired Ty Montgomery, the Saints very interested in offloading some older talent and starting to reboot the team offered Cameron Jordan to the Vikings. After losing sleep and trying to figure out a trade the Vikings and Saints came to a deal throwing Montgomery and some picks to the Saints for Jordan. Boy did Jordan not disappoint, his first week with the team he wound up with a sack, but his presence showed, with Sheldon Richardson, Everson Griffen, and Linval Joseph all getting sacks ending up with a defensive 19-13 win vs the Cowboys. His next start was vs the Chiefs and here is where he started to shine, knocking down Patrick Mahomes with 4 sacks forcing 2 fumbles and on the other end of the line Danielle Hunter rounding it off with 1 more sack and a forced fumble, capping off a 31-14 rout. Last week the Vikings face their division rival The Detroit Lions Cameron Jordan came into this game with a fire under his ass and taking Matthew Stafford down 2 times with another forced fumble and made stafford thrown 2 INTs with Jordan In the back field. Griffen has 1 sack and Ben Gedeon rounded out the day with 2 more sacks making Stafford’s 2nd half a living hell. It is surprising to think 1 player can change a whole team but he sure fires up that Dline of Hunter, Griffen, Richardson, and Joseph, which makes the secondaries job much easier when they get to that backfield.
up next we have the Green Bay Packers in an important division game
We are back Vikings fans with the first 2 weeks in the books, our front office has been hard at work as well as the team starting off a huge 2-0, both games were a little closer than most would like but the Vikings come back clutch and are preparing for the Washington Redskins going into week 3.
Week 1 the Minnesota Vikings beat the Philadelphia Eagles 40 to 34, Conor Berg had a pretty solid week 1 game in a new system throwing 10-15 for 202 yards 1 TD and 1 INT ( the INT was on a hail mary pass so not too worried there). Where the Vikings are most excited is the run game, Jerrick Mckinnon had 5 rushes for 123 yards and 2 TDs, Latavius Murray had 9 rushes for 59 yards and 1 TD, while the rookie 5th rounder Kaiwai Long had 8 carries for 60 yards and 1 TD. With that committee in the backfield the MN could really be a force in the NFC this season. There Defense although gave up quite a few yards had 6 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, with Linval Joseph and Willie Browner leading the team with those.
Week 2 was a bit closer than week 1 was, with the Minnesota Vikings winnin 37 to 35. Conor Berg had yet another good game going 17-27 for 231 yds and 1 TD with Stefon Diggs putting up his 2nd straight 100 yd game catching 7 balls for 104 yds and 1 TD with a clutch catch we will talk about a bit later. Again sticking with the run this game Kaiwai Long had 15 rushes for 83 yds and 2 TDs after Latavius Murray unfortunately dislocated his hip early in the 1st quarter. Mckinnon played the change of pace back that he is used to with 8 rushes 59 yards and 1 TD for another solid game. with another 2 FF and 1 INT the defense is still enjoying success with these turnovers.
The front office was busy calling a bunch of teams looking for a replacement for Latavius Murray with him being out for 8 weeks with a dislocated hip. The Titans picked up the phones early in the search and after a bit of negotiating, the Vikings got there RB of the future in Derrick Henry. A HUGE RB acquisition will hopefully bring this team full circle with the retooled offensive line the Minnesota Vikings are definitely excited for the upcoming season.
Next week the Minnesota Vikings face the Washington Redskins before going into the Bye week 4.
The first 2 weeks of the season the Cardinals 1st round pick, Jabari Presley, had 0 tackles, no pass deflections, while Buchannon took the league by storm. after a bye week Presley has had over 6 tackles every game, 1 fumble recovery, 1 sack seemingly coming to his potential the Cardinals thought he would have drafting him at the 2nd pick in the draft
The Cardinals defense is definitely 1 of the best in the league, they are giving up the least passing yards, in a secondary led by Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu, 5th in Points allowed, and 6th in total yards allowed. Hopefully young DT J.T Stroud can help bolster that run defense which is 24th in the league.
Carlos Santana looks to stay hot next week when they face a tought Carolina Panthers team. In an interview last week after a tough loss to the Minnesota Vikings he said, "We were able to keep up with one of the best teams in the league, now we are looking to get back on a hot streak against the Rams" and sure enough in a close bout the Cardinals beat the rams 23 -21 due to a clutch FG by Chandler Catanazaro smashing the ball through the uprights for a 59 yd FG. After a nice defensive stop, a huge pass batted at the line by Chandler Jones, and some luck with a missed FG by Greg Zurelein, the Cardinals improved to 4-2 atop the divison, ahead of the 49ers and Seahawks by 2 games.
