Coach...Player...Ponder?

The question looming over the Vikings fans heads over the last few weeks has simply been “who will our next head coach be?” Today we finally have some clarity, but there are still some looming questions that need to be answered. Today Christian Ponder was named the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, you may remember Ponder as the 12th overall selection by the Vikings in the 2011 NFL draft, a massive reach at the time. He flamed out in Minnesota after 4 up and down seasons; but now he’s back.  He will play two roles on this team, first and foremost as the teams head coach, but also for the first time in NFL history he will be an active player on the roster. He is tasked with helping Teddy Bridgewater become the quarterback most fans think he can be, he is also tasked with being the guy the team looks to in the event Bridgewater goes down. “First I would like to say I am extremely excited about this opportunity, and excited to make NFL history. I am excited to be back in Minnesota, and I am excited to be the man leading the Vikings to their first Super Bowl victory” Christian said confidently during his introduction press conference. General manager J Lux was clearly excited about his hiring “We got the guy we wanted all along. Once we figured out the logistics figured out behind the scenes and with the league, we wanted to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. He and Zimmer will make an excellent coaching tandem, and we can’t wait for week one to come. Vikings fans, book your plane tickets to San Francisco in February…we’ll meet you there!”  Some fans question the hire, mainly how can Christian balance the work involved with being a player, and the work involved with being a coach. Other fans voiced their concerns with hiring a head coach with no coaching experience. Fans and pundits alike agree…if they can match their play with their confidence, the Vikings will be a team to reckoned with.

Vikings Preparing For Big Move

Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf announced today that Mike Zimmer will be stepping down at his request. "Mike's passion is coaching defence, and he made that perfectly clear in our meetings. We will be retaining him in an assistant coach/defensive coordinator" Zygi said during his quick press conference. GM and Director of Player personnel J Lux said he has known about this for a few weeks and has begun the search for a replacement. "We have someone in mind, we are just working out the specifics, as it will pose some challenges. If all can we worked out, expect an announcement prior to regular season kickoff. I will handle all head coaching duties until that point." Check out our top 5 coaching candidates below!
