Rising from the Ashes

After a mediocre second year in the league, the Patriots are fighting for their playoff lives. A slow start to the season resulted in a hole that the Pats had to dig out of. Rumor has it that the players were going on vacation from Tuesday through Saturday on any given week, and were showing up hungover to the games on Sunday.

However, the Pats seem to have turned it around and are in the thick of it at 8-6, tied with the New York Jets. The Jets, who went 1-1 against the Patriots this season (a sim win), are hoping the Pats falter within their last two games so that they can get in themselves.

It has been a season full of ups and downs, but the Pats are hoping to sneak into the playoffs where the old mantra "Any Given Sunday" applies. Teams across the league are hoping the Jets take that coveted AFC east divisional spot so that they can avoid an away game versus a 10-6 team.

On a side note, there are rumblings of some rule changes in the offseason. The commissioner's office has been getting a lot of grief for a division winner automatically getting a home game. The point that there is a scheduled event in week 17 where coaches around the AFC will boycott the idea of flying to Foxboro for a wildcard weekend game. Whether or not this will result in any changes is to be seen.

Looking forward to the finale of the season, tune into the final weeks to find out how it all shakes out. Good luck to the SPC, and on to the playoffs!

Jags bid farewell to Pool Party Paradise

The Jags are awaiting their first playoff game eagerly after having gotten blessed with some end of season XP. Now that the picture is clearing up a bit, it looks like it will be a path containing the Celtic Tigers and Browns on the way to the Superbowl, two teams that are both known to have lots of klampz.

While there will be plenty of time to look forward and analyze the play by play tactics of each team, for now, the Jags are chillin on their bye week, getting some sun and enjoying an opportunity to play a final set of games in their iconic home stadium before it closes down.

Reaction to Early Playoff Games

As Bless League rolls into the playoffs, we have a couple of games that have already gone down out of the first four this weekend.

Here are the early results:

  • The Celtic Tigers waxed the Jets and MVP Artie Harris 25-10, in a shocking upset in the AFC, as the wildcard team knocked off the AFC East champs. Doom's playoff nightmare continues with another early exit, and Ramuk hopes to carry his success into the next round vs. the juiced up Jags.

  • Over in the NFC, a clash of clans went down as famed BBL user Wade and his Redskins faced off against The Scottish Madden Minister Bos. The 3 seed Wade looked prime for a deep playoff run, but Bos ended that real quick with a 38-7 beatdown! An upsetting loss for the Skins, but they are here to stay and will be back making some noise next season. Bos looks ahead to a matchup vs. Steel, where he can make his own prediction of a Steel choke come true.

Two games, two upsets. Two three seeds knocked out, two wildcards moving on. This reminds me of season 1, when Max won the SB as a 6 seed. Will we see a repeat this year?

Don't underestimate the underdog!

Blockbuster Trade Retroactive Review

In what was quite a shocking trade earlier this season, the Jags traded away Superbowl winning QB Cole World to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for Patrick Mahomes II who had been underperforming in his time with the Vikes. This was a puzzling move, as the Jags seemed to be rolling with Cole, but as coach Marone pointed out, "this is a 5 year move, and Pat has arm strength that can't be taught"

Below is a review of the 2 QBs stats since they got traded:

  • Cole World
    • Jax stats - 62% completion, 1596 yards, 12 TDs and 12 INTs
    • Min stats - 53% completion, 1153 yards, 7 TDs and 16 INTs

  • Patrick Mahomes II
    • Jax stats - 55% completion, 2074 yards, 16 TDs and 17 INTs
    • Min stats - 46% completion, 1146 yards, 7 TDs and 16 INTs

Looks like the Vikes are getting identical production out of their QBs, but the owner seems to be happy that his QB makes the required throws now. Meanwhile, in Jacksonville, Pat Mahomes has a new look and leads the highest scoring offense in the league.

Bless tf up!

Turning Point

After another strong performance by the defense in week 17, the Jags are rolling into the playoffs. A few weeks ago, things didn't look so hot, as the Jags looked really bad against Yoni's saints, taking a fat L. The next week, Doom looked to be in control and ready to hand the Jags back to back Lz. But then came, the turning point:

A blocked FG returned for a TD (while the volcano was going strong!) and all of a sudden, the Jags are marching on once again. Will that one play be the turning point the Jags were looking for in advance of the playoffs? Only time will tell!

Pro Bowl Recap

Congratulations to all our users on a successful first season of Bless League in Madden 18. We had a wild finish with an overtime Superbowl that ended with Max and his Browns lifting the trophy. It may seem far away, but just a week ago, Cabin had the chance to eliminate Max from the playoff race by beating Billy’s CPU in week 17.

Here are some quick highlights from the year-end Pro Bowl selections:

  • Overall, a quarter of teams (8 out of 32) had 5 or more players selected to the Pro Bowl
  • On the defensive side, the Chiefs (5) and Eagles (4) had heavy representation in their respective conferences. Klampz!
  • On the offensive side, the Jags (10) and Panthers (7) had the highest turnout
  • Coach Cabin had the best special teams unit in the league, as the only team with more than 1 special teams player in the all-star game
  • 3 teams had at least one player in each offene, defense, and special teams pro bowl units (Falcons, Panthers, Ravens)
  • At least one backup O-lineman made the pro bowl this year (Earl Watford on the Jaguars), continuing to shine a light onto Madden’s flawed selection system
  • 5 teams had just 1 pro bowler selected (Broncos, Cardinals, Cowboys, Lions, Redskins)
  • 3 teams had 0 pro bowlers, sorry fellas – can you guess who they are? Write in the comments section!

Select first team all pros:

  • QB – Drew Brees (Saints) and Blake Bortles (Jags)
  • HB – Christian McCaffrey (Panthers) and Leonard Fournette (Jags)
  • WR – Michael Thomas (Saints) and Devante Parker (Dolphins)
  • CB – Marshon Lattimore (Saints) and Jason McCourty (Browns)
  • MLB – Jake Ryan (Packers) and Wesley Woodyard (Titans)

Stay tuned for more league updates and in the meantime, shut off your auto xp spender!
