2021 NFL Draft: Prospect Preview and Overview

Hey guys, today we are going to be grading every position in the upcoming draft as we enter the 1st Season of FNSL. Easy premises, we go through the positions, grade them and I'll list the top players at the respective position and their projected pick area. Let's get to it!

****Please Note the projection at the end of the player is NOT TRUE TALENT****

Quarterbacks: C-

This year is not a year to be looking to add a QB through the draft. Other than the 22yo gunslinger from South Carolina this position group won’t need more than one seat for round 1 in this draft. Lots of arm strength in this class and some more shift QBs but nothing noteworthy.

1. Bryson Costello - South Carolina - 22 - Projected Early 1st

2. Dalton Bowman - Texas - 22 -  Projected Early 3rd

3. Johnny Kendrick - UCF - 22 -  Projected Late 3rd

Halfbacks: A-

The halfback class is deep with 4 prospects projected to be selected in the first round and one player on the fringe of round 1 and 2.to be drafted. With multiple running backs projected in each round except the 2nd there should be plenty of opportunities to add running back depth or a potential game changer.

1. Marquez Spears - Oklahoma State - 22 -  Projected Early 1st

2. Dorian Lucas - Texas - 22 -  Projected Mid 1st

3. Marquise Murray - Penn State - 21 -  Projected Mid 1st

4. Justin Ellington - California - 21 - Projected Laye 1st

5. Gerald Davis - Idaho State - 23 - Projected Early 2nd

Fullback: ?

Do you really care about these guys? No? Ok, let's continue

Wide Receivers: A+

This class looks to be very deep and talented. 11 players projected in the first 2 rounds, 8 of those being potential first round selections. The class is notably quite tall with most WRs ranging in the 6’2”-6’5” range with 8 of those 11 players fitting within that height range.

1. Antonio Morgan - North Carolina - 22  -  Projected Early 1st - (6’2”)

2. Caleb Ancrum - Clemson - 22 - Projected Mid 1st - (5’10”)

3. Ladarius Austin - Stanford - 22 -  Projected Mid 1st - (6’3”)

4. Manu Ventura - Tennessee - 23 - Projected Late 1st (5’11”)

5. Steve Saffold - Missouri - 23 - Projected Late 1st - (6’1”)

Tight Ends: B

A quick look at this class tells me to not expect much speed this year with 6 of the top 10 players being more possession style but 3 of the top 4 are more mismatch threats. Nevertheless we have seen many players with and without speed do amazing things from this position. Expect one of these players to explode onto the scene next season in the proper scheme.

1. Taylor Hopkins - Clemson - 22 -  Projected Mid 1st (6’3”)

2. Dion Hodges - Michigan - 21 -  Projected Mid 1st (6’3”)

3. Grant Shipley - Georgia Southern - 22 -  Projected Late 2nd (6’3”)

4. Bill Williams - West Virginia - 24 - Projected Mid 3rd (6’6”)

5. Andy Butler - Villanova - 22 - Early 5th (6’6”)

Tackle: A+

This position looks to add a potential game changer with the #1 projected player in the draft Dakota McKnight, not to mention the other 4 players joining him as potential first round selections. Teams seeking tackle help will likely look to the draft with the abundance of talent and depth.

1. Dakota McKnight - Ole Miss - 22 -  Projected Early 1st

2. Tony Scott - Texas - 22 -  Projected Early 1st

3. Brandon Wade - Notre Dame - 23 -  Projected Late 1st

4. Mike Gibson - Penn State - 23 -  Projected Late 1st

5. Connor Hess - Alabama - 22 -  Projected Late 1st

Guard: C

This group seems to have 2 stand out players followed by a notable talent drop off going from 11th on the big board to 94th with the next ranked guard in the draft. This is a very risk reward year for teams in need of interior O-Line help.

1. Chris Booth - Oregon - 21 -  Projected Early 1st

2. Artie Brooks - Boise State - 21 -  Projected Early 1st

3. Lionel Bolden - Arkansas - 22 -  Projected Late 3rd

4. Jayvon Sheldon - Iowa - 22 -  Projected Early 4th

5. Bradley Bennett - Auburn - 22 -  Projected Early 4th

Center: D-

This is a first in my time but here we see only 2 players who played Center in college projected to be drafted. Both players look to go late first or early in the second and may potentially be taken much ahead of their projections due to limited supply.

1. Ryan Starkey - Florida - 22 -  Projected Mid 2nd

2. Allen Hopkins - Vanderblit - 21 -  Projected Late 2nd

3. ***No other Centers are projected to be drafted***

Defensive Tackles: B

This is a position you will see a lot of in most classes, this class show us5 players all in the mix to be the 1st defensive tackle selected in this draft. Which begs the question of whos gonna go first? follows suit as there are a projected 20 prospects to be drafted at the position. Expect teams to get very valuable picks on day 2 of the draft..

1. Larry Moore - Ohio State - 22 -  Projected Late 1st

2. Denard McIntyre - Georgia - 23 -  Projected Early 2nd

3. Jordan Pamphile - Vanderblit - 23 -  Projected Early 2nd

4. Max Hutchins - SMU - 22 - Projected Early 2nd

5.  Jaylen Bacon - Georgia - 22 - Projected Mid 2nd

Defensive Ends: B

This class is loaded with what I would consider edge rushers and ones that can get to the QB. This class should give us quite a good variety of players and pics even though its quite hollow in the talent department besides Lawson.

1. Lorenzon Jowers - Standford - 22 -  Projected Early 1st

2. Brandon Procter - Auburn - 21 -  Projected Mid 1st

3. George Johnson - Penn State - 21 -  Projected Late 1st

4. Marcus Branch - Nebraska - 24 -  Projected Mid 2nd

5. James Bartow - North Dakota State - 22 -  Projected Late 2nd

OLB: B

As usual we have some top tier edge rushers in this position with a varying set of skills. There’s likely going to be 4 OLBs selected on the first day of the draft, each with their own unique pass rush style. Simpson seems to be a league wide consensus and the best player at the position.

1. Shaquille Simpson - Vanderblit - 22 -  Projected Early 1st

2. Eric Booker - Flordia - 22 -  Projected Late 1st

3. James McDaniels - Delaware State - 23 - Projected Early 2nd

4. Braxton MacKenzie - TCU - 21 -  Projected Early 2nd

5. DaWann Robertson - Lehigh - 23 -  Projected Mid 2nd

MLB: D+

With only 1 player projected in the 1st round at MLB, to company the lack of overall talent at this position group this year is going to make for some interesting choices for teams facing a weakness at this position this coming off-season.

1. Matthew Ryans - Florida - 22 -  Projected Late 1st

2. Carlos Patrick - Texas - 22 -  Projected Mid 3rd

3. Dwight Tomlinson - Notre Dame - 21 -  Projected Late 3rd

4. Benjamin Pryor - LSU - 22 - Projected Mid 4th

5. Bryce Blakley - Princeton - 23 - Projected Mid 5th

Cornerbacks: B-

This position is where usually the guys who go early are safe picks and the guys outside of the 2nd round are boom or busts. Physical traits are very important at this position. This class looks very streamline with on avg 2-3 players projected each round with varying skill levels depending on which scouts you ask. Expect this to be a very volatile position come draft day.

1. Keon Huffman - Colorado State - 22 -  Projected Mid 1st (6’3”)

2. Dakota Knox - Iowa - 21 Projected Mid 1st (5’11”)

3. Mike Winston - Oregon - 21 - Projected Early 2nd (6’3”)

4. Henry Dayne - Virginia - 21 - Projected Mid 2nd (6’0”)

5. Jonathan Downing - Auburn - 22 - Projected Early 3rd (5’10”)

Safeties: B

A very interesting choice with Danny Mason, a potential #1 pick, the speedster is known for locking down slot WRs and TEs who will stick his nose in the run game with thunderous hits. With value at this position throughout the draft expect to find value in most rounds with this safety class.

1. Danny Mason - Penn State - 21 - Projected Early 1st

2. Jamal Winston - Tennessee State - 22 - Projected Late 1st

3. George Singleton - Washington State - 22 - Projected Early 2nd

4. Derek Morant - LA. Tech - 22 - Projected Mid 2nd

5. Riley Hanks - Penn - 24 - Projected Mid 2nd

This draft is definitely going to be exciting with the 1st overall pick likely suiting multiple positional needs, except multiple draft day surprises. Along with an exciting draft class we have an extremely unique draft story; 4 players from Texas, all juniors have decided to forgoe their final season to all declare together. Of those players the main 3 are the starting QB/RB/RT of the Texas explosive air raid offence. Tony Scott projected highest at 8th overall on most boards, followed closely at 10th with RB Dorian Lucas, then we skip down to mid-late 3rd round slots with QB Dalton Bowman and the only defender in on the declare early train Carlos Patrick. Both slotted at 71 and 80 on the big board. When Bowman was asked who he would most like to play with at the next level he was quoted saying “I would love to play with all of the guys leaving texas this season but ultimately I would be lying if I didn’t say I want to keep Dorian in the backfield with me and have us keep working to a championship together” The following weekend after allowing 3 sacks Tony Scott had no comment to make about the statement his QB had said earlier in the week. Could this affect Scotts draft stock, or is he too talented to slide outside the top 10? Only draft day will have the answers for us.

Unique Draft Topic: Both of Georgia's Starting DTs declare for the draft

Best position group: WR

Worst position group: Center

Surplus: WR/CB (31 projected WRs - 22 projected CBs - 52 total players in each position)

Falcoholics - Pre-Season/Week 1

Hello Falcons fans! The Falcons begin the season with a preseason trade as they have dealt Tevin Coleman to the Buffalo Bills who is in the final year of his contract in exchange for a 2019 second round selection. The first team comes up against the Falcons is the defending Champion Philadelphia Eagles. We’re in Philly to open up the NFL season the game started off strong with most of the workload going to running back at Devonta Freeman who picked up 16 touches for 189 yards, and two touchdowns earning him the game ball for his performance. The Falcons would pick u the win 42-17. Calvin Ridley picked up 3 catches for 77 yards and one touchdown. His first reception going for a 40 yard  touchdown, congratulations to the rookie! On the defensive side of the ball, Grady Jarrett had two tackles for loss, along with one sack and forced fumble. The Falcons picked up interceptions from Desmond Trufant and Deion Jones. Atlanta work mainly came on the ground Orleans Darkwa checking in for 10 carries and 59 yards and a touchdown. Matt Ryan scrambled 3 times for 19 yards and a touchdown. Fullback Rick Ortiz had only 2 carry for 4 yards and a touchdown. Austin Hooper picking up 3 catches, Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu both caught 2 passes. The Atlanta Falcons will be hosting the Carolina Panthers and their week 2 matchup.

Check in next week for more updates on the Falcons.

Deep Dive: Dave's Mock Draft 1.0 - Season 3

Mock Draft - 1st Round - 1.0

Today were going to be looking at the Dave’s First Mock Draft for Year 3 of RSML. Let’s get to it!

  1.  Cardinals - Lewis Cone - Tackle

This pick will being a new era for the Cardinals and they will add a versatile player at the Tackle position to protect their QB Josh Rosen. This should allow more time to pass and better running lane, easy pick for the Cardinals.

  1. Chiefs - Aaron Lawson - Defensive End

This guy is an elite run stopper with pass rushing upside, I expect at his size that he fits better as a 3-4 DE or a DT in a 4-3 be he will have the speed to contain the edge on rushing downs if needed.

  1. Steelers - Curtis Sentef - Wide Receiver

Curtis reminds me of Calvin Johnson in size and strength, not as fast, but Sentef get separation and win those contested catches and make the circus catch. His age at 24 is my only concern but with an outstanding combine he a good pick.

  1. Bears -  Douglas Mason - Edge

Bear select an all around linebacker that will fit into most schemes. Although Mason does not possess elite speed or strength he makes up for it with his instinctive play, watch him try to lock down run and pass attacks

  1. Giants - Oscar Fisher - Edge

Fisher and Mason are nearly identical at the combine but Fisher showed less instinct in both pass and run drills, he is still a blue chip prospect but is still extremely athletic and can elevate this defence in a strong offensive division

  1. Vikings - Hansen Wolfe - Quarterback

The first QB comes off the board here and I like the fit. Wolfe will fit in at home with the short to intermediate pass attack of the vikings and enjoy having a solid running back in Dalvin Cook to support him in his rookie season.

  1. Raiders - Hudson McDowell - Linebacker

The Raiders continue to add to their defence with this addition. McDowell will be an interesting fit as he's shown many athletic plays including big hits and running down RBs and Receivers in open space but is a question if he's more of a pass rusher, run stopper or a coverage guy. Maybe it's all three.

  1. 49ers - Curtis Bryant - Cornerback

The niners pick up the top CB in the class who was a burner at the combine with a 4.36 40 yard dash and the top times in the 3 cone and 20 yard shuttle. He was lockdown in man coverage but suspect when asked to cover zone where he often left his assignment chasing receiver, let’s see how well he transitions into the NFL where offences lok to exploit those things weekly.

  1. Bengals - Keilan Geathers - Wide Receiver

The Bengals have the freedom to go best player available at this spot and it happens to be another speedy WR to pair with John Ross. Geathers posted the #2 40 yard dash times and the fastest in 3 cone and 20 yards shuttle. I expect him to also be an excellent returner and slot WR.

  1. Lions - Rashaud Hadley - Safety

The lions snag and all around beast in Hadley who i would compare to Derwin James when he came out of college. Hadley can cover and hit making the ideal plug and play player in the modern NFL.

  1. Bills - Ego Bartu - Guard

Bills grab some offensive line help with Bartu who has played each position on the offensive line throughout his football career making it an season choice for the bills.

  1. Jets - Wade Suckanec - Center

Jets take the top center in the class who like to bully and push around DTs like he's hitting a blocking sled. Wade has been an all around player form Clemson and should make an easy transition into pro football.

  1. Seahwaks - JaMichael Allen - Defensive Tackle

The hawks get lucky and select the #4 overall player on the draft board as he slides to them at 13th overall. Allen will look to be a disruptive run stopper paired with 2 solid defensive ends the Hawks already have should make for a solid D-Line

  1. Dolphins - DeMarco McIver - Cornerback

The Phins take the athletic corner from USC, after posting top 3 in all 5 of the major combine drills along with a solid senior season he moved himself into the talk of the top CB in the class. Only time will tell but if his coverage skills improve expect him to become an island.

  1. Texans - Darrian Walton - Cornerback

The Texans struggled in a pass happy division and look to solidify their pass defence with a young and talented corner in Walton, although he did not light it up at the combine he is considered to be the best coverage corner in the class.

  1. Packers - Jaelin Winey - Safety

The defending Super Bowl champions acquired this pick in exchange for Kevin King near the ? mark of the season. The Packers look to add more depth at the secondary behind Clinton-Dix and Stinger, and with some development they might have added a future replacement for one of their safeties.

  1. Saints - Tyronne Hughes - Cornerback

The saints pick up a young corner who should slide right into their sub packages or possibly win the 2nd CB spot. I expect the Saints to be on the phone looking to move up or down depending on their draft targets.

  1. Browns - DeMarlo Hatchette - Tackle

The Bowns stretch this pick and take a pass protector how can also get into space and cause havoc in the run game. The Browns need help on the offensive line badly and this is there best chance.

  1. Jaguars - D.J. Mayer - Defensive Tackle

The slide finally ends of Mayer who will be moving to Jacksonville and will make an immediate impact for a defence that has lacked an identity these past few seasons. This pick is the first step to competing in  the AFC South for the Jags.

  1. Colts - Braxton Bersin - Quarterback

The Colts have made it clear they need a QB, the question is which style will they prefer. I think they will lean towards the more mobile Bersin who looks similar to Lamar Jackson just slightly less speedy. This will open up the Colts for a deeper playoff run this season in a tough AFC.

  1. Ravens - B.J. Wunsch - Wide Receiver

Ravens snag a reliable WR to try and keep there high powered offence going into next season. Wunsch will not wow you but is that guy who always seems to be there when you need him. Expect him and Jackson to get along well.

  1. Panthers - Qydarrius Parryman - Safety

Panthers we’re bottom half in the league when it came to defending the pass last season which ultimately allowed their opponents to control the game. They add a player with range along with a hard hit to come in and help over the top. Perryman looks very similar to Keanu Neal for the Falcons but possible a step faster.

  1. Cardinals - Glenn Hollenbeck - Tight End

The Cardinals begin with protecting Rosen, now they look to help him in the the pass attack with a speedy pass catching TE. This pick should help stretch the defence and let the Cardinals open up there playbook more this upcoming season.

  1. Bills - Vander Flynn - Quarterback

The bills have finally decided to move on from failed project Josh Allen and his rocket arm. Flynn will bring a more consistent throw but will still be putting some zip on the football. I fully expect them to have another rough year but could Flynn be the next Jim Kelly?

  1. Titans - Branch Mathis - Tight End

The Titans who were a top 10 team in terms of rushing yards add a strong pass catcher who should help in the short game but also make key block to elevate the Titans rushing attack.

  1. Eagles - Trey Mickell - Guard

The Eagles look to improve a dismal offensive line so that they can try and work their way back into the playoffs again. I expect them to be quite aggressive in free agency for Linemen.

  1. Cowboys -  Craig Fleming - Tackle

The Boys take Fleming in hopes that this will allow for more time in the pocket and improved pass game and eliminate this team form being one dimensional (Ranked 31st in pass yards per game yards last season) They could also pick a QB here depending on how the draft shakes out.

  1. Eagles - Cesar Robinson - Safety

The Eagles add a needs work player in Robinson but with Jenkins nearing retirement it looks like a perfect year for him to adjust to the NFL lifestyle and learn how to defend before being handed the starting position in the future.

  1. Redskins - Parker Hedgecock - Linebacker

With Zach Brown rapidly declining in ability the Skins look to replace him with a young pass coverage linebacker in Hedgecock. The Skins could try and move up or down from this position depending on how they feel about their defence headed into next season.

  1. Patriots - Conor Flanagan - Tight End

The Pats have moved on from Gronk and take a solid TE. The Patriots really do have the freedom to go best available player here but I feel there TE spot is such a hole now they need to address it as soon as possible.

  1. Chargers -  Lawrence Haayer - Tackle

The Chargers look to improve their offensive line to hopefully improve the 4th ranked offence in scoring last season and solidify a questionable spot on this teams roster for the past few season.

  1. Packers - Kegan Conley - Defensive End

The packers take a defensive end to wrap up the first round. Conley will be expected to replace Mike Daniels who played on a franchise tag last season for the Packers and was key in there Super Bowl win recording a TD.

If you made it this far thanks for reading an I hope you enjoyed.

Deep Dive: Draft Class Breakdown - Season 3

Hey guys, today we are going to be grading every position in the upcoming draft as we enter the 3rd season of RSML. Easy premises, we go through the positions, grade them and I'll list the top players at the respective position and their projected pick area. Let's start with the guys who get all the credit or downfall of teams.

****Please Note the projection at the end of the player is NOT TRUE TALENT****

Quarterbacks: B+

This year is special for QBs, we have 4 first round projections. Well balanced and and will possible have a similar sense to the 2015 NFL class with Rams and Eagles trading up to select top tier QBs of the future.

1. Derek Herrera - Florida State - 22 - Early 1st

2. Hansen Wolfe - Nebraska - 23 - Mid 1st

3. Braxton Bersin - Ole Miss - 23 - Late 1st

Halfbacks: C+

The halfback class is deep with 31 prospects, with 19 projected to be drafted. Sadly there doesn't seem to be any sure fire studs with the possible exception of Marcus Boyd. Still looks solid though, might be a few hidden gems.

1. Marcus Boyd - LSU - 21 - Late 1st

2. Lewis Conley - UCLA - 23 - Early 2

3. Jabri Smith - Texas Tech - 22 - Mid 2nd

Fullback: ?

Do you really care about these guys? No? Ok, let's continue

Wide Receivers: B+

This class looks to be a Well balanced piece of size and speed, 23 projected picks (55 total) of those 23 players, 10 are 6’3” or taller. I expect the combine to really solidify the positions of these players in the upcoming draft along with any outstanding performances at the college level.

1. Keilan Geathers - USC - 22  - Early 1st - (5’8”)

2. Evince Meyer - Alabama - 23 - Mid 1st - (5’10”)

3. Curtis Sentef - Stanford - 24 - Mid 1st - (6’5”)

Tight Ends: B

A quick look at this class tells me to not expect much speed this year with 7 of the top 10 players being more possession style players. Nevertheless we have seen many players with and without speed do amazing things from this position.

1. Glenn Hollenbeck - Nebraska - 22 - Mid 1st

2. Branch Mathis - Georgia - 21 - Late 1st

3. Conor Flanagan - Illinois State - 21 - Late 1st

Tackle: C+

This class is slightly below average with one blue chip player in Cone, but otherwise I see a lot of red chip and depth players from this position group in this draft. FA might be the move if you're looking to acquire a solid Tackle this off-season.

1. Lewis Cone - Penn State - 22 - Early 1st

2. Craig Fleming - Michigan State - 22 - Late 1st

3. DeMarlo Hatchette - Illinois State - 21 - Early 2nd

4. Lawrence Haayer - Arkansas State - 24 - Mid 2nd

5. Perry Holsey - Virginia - 23 - Early 3rd

Guard: B

This group seems to be evenly spread out in levels of talent, age, and pick projection with 2 players minimum in the first 3 rounds along with another 4 more prospects from round 4-7.

1. Ego Bartu - Clemson - 23 - Late 1st

2. Trey Mickell - Iowa - 23 - Late 1st

3. Zack Giles - Michigan - 21 - Mid 2nd

4. Jejwaune Lassiter - BYU - 23 - Late 2nd

5. Antwan Kaddu - Florida - 23 - Mid 3rd

Center: C

There’s always a few good centers in a draft class, the question is usually weather or not the position is in demand come draft day. I could easily see 2 being taken in the 1st round, or none at all until the mid 2nd round. Always makes for an interesting war room decision

1. Wade Scukanec - Clemson - 22 - Mid 1st

2. Bryant roberg - Rutgers - 24 - Early 2nd

3. Noah Fry - FAU - 22 - Late 4th

Defensive Tackles: B

This is a position you will see a lot of in most classes, this class show us 2 stud at the top with near opposite styles of play. Which begs the question of whos gonna go first? follows suit as there are a projected 23 prospect to be drafted. Not heavy talent wise but will be able to allow team to find strong future players to develop for starting roles.

1. Jamichael Allen - Florida - 22 - Early 1st

2. D.J. Mayer - LSU - 21 - Early  1st

3. Denard Peters - Tennessee - 22 - Early 2nd

Defensive Ends: B

This class is loaded with what I would consider edge rushers and ones that can get to the QB. This class should give us quite a good variety of players and pics even though its quite hollow in the talent department besides Lawson.

1. Aaron Lawson - LSU - 22 - Early 1st

2. Kegan Conley - Illinois State - 24 - Mid 2nd

3. Gordon Geer - Boise state - 23 - Early 3rd

4. Ryan Forbes - UCLA - 23 - Mid 3rd

5. Lamarcus Lowrey- Colorado State - 23 - Late 3rd

MLB: D+

With no 1st round projected MLBs, to company the lack of overall talent at this position group this year is going to make for some interesting choices for teams facing a weakness at this position.

1. Parker Hedgecock - Drake - 24 - Early 2nd

2. Spenser Fatinikun - Georgia - 22 - Mid 2nd

3. Abraham Holsey - Nebraska - 22 - Late 2nd

OLB: A-

As usual we have some top tier edge rushers in this position with a varying set of skills. There’s likely going to be 3 OLBs selected in the top 10 on draft day, just the question of which team likes which player better,

1. Douglas Mason - Louisville - 22 - Early 1st

2. Oscar Fisher - Wisconsin - 21 - Early 1st

3. Hudson McDowell - Nebraska - 21 - Early 1st

4. Morris Sutton - Toledo - 23 - Late 1st

5. Kendle Hodges - S. Illinois - 23 - Mid 2nd

Cornerbacks: B+

This position is where usually the guys who go early are safe picks and the guys outside of the 2nd round are boom or busts. Physical traits are very important at this position. This class should yield some top notch talent if they pan out come combine and pro days.

1. Curtis Bryant - Notre Dame - 21 - Mid 1st

2. Demarco McIver - USC - 24 - Mid 1st

3. Darrian Walton - Tennessee - 22 - Mid 1st

Safeties: B

A very interesting dealer choice with Burke/Craig in the middle of round one. Both have the ability to be used as utility safeties and can play a variety of roles. I don't expect to see either of them slide past 20th. For the remainder it’s looking quite Hit/Miss so some guys might jump up the board.

1. Jaeline Winey - UCLA - 22 - Mid 1st

2. Rashaud Hadley - Texas - 23 - Mid 1st

3. Cesar Robinson - USF - 22 -  Late 1st

This draft is definitely going to be good for another looking to upgrade at Offensive Skill Positions, along with Edged Defenders and possible Defensive Backs. Many of the other positions will likely go early and often as there is a limited supply of talent at many key positions like Offensive Line, Running Back and Middle Linebacker.

Unique Draft Topic: LSU is set to have 3 first round draft choices with 2 possibly going Top 5

Best position group: WR/OLB

Worst position group: Middle Linebacker

Biggest surplus: WR (23 projected picked - 55 total players)

Best teams to watch going into the draft:

Eagles: Three 1st Round Selections (14, 21, 26) Four 2nd Round Selection (36, 46, 53, 54)

Cardinals: Two 1st Round Selections(4, 17) One 2nd Round Selections (37)

Packers: Two 1st Round Selections (18, 30) One 2nd Round selections (62)

Free Agency Winner & Losers Season 1

Winners and Losers from Week 1 of Free Agency

Winner - Broncos

Broncos Signed veteran CB Jason Verrett to a 1 year 19M deal. Yes thats a big deal, but there’s virtually no risk. He underperforms/Injured they’ve got the money back next year. They also now have the exclusive chance to sign him a an extension if he does play well.

Broncos get a A- on this signing

Winner - Desean Jackson

Jackson signed a 3 year deal with the Cowboys for an 8.3M avg. Now I get the cowboys are WR needy, but was Jackson the right call? Last 2 season combined he’s only posted just shy of 1400 yards and 10 TDs. Not too shabby but he is on the down swing in his career and hasn’t made the Pro Bowl since 2013.

Jackson gets an A on this signing, the Cowboys get a C

Loser - Cardinals

The Cardinals are yet to make a Free Agency Acquisitions and also lose Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald and swiss army knife Antoine Bethea

Cardinals Will have difficulty recovering from massive losses/lack of moves

Loser - Panthers

This was unforeseen event, the Panthers lose 3 players to retirement including Future Hall of Famer Julius Peppers, Ryan Kalil and Mike Adams

Panthers look to fill those holes through the draft

Overall view form this Free Agency process so far is very separated in the sense that guys are either filling up in FA or are remaining quiet and waiting for the draft. At the time of this article there are 14 teams with one or no signings so from in Free Agency.

Deep Dive: Draft Class Breakdown - Season 1

Hey guys, today we are going to be grading every position in the upcoming draft. Easy premises, we go through the positions, rank them and I'll list the top players at the respective position and their projected pick area.

1. Grayson Meier - Michigan State - 24 - Early 1st

2. Blake Johnston - Penn State - 21 - Early 1st

3. Brandon Knorr - Pittsburgh - 22 - Mid 1st

Halfbacks: C+

The halfback class is deep with 31 prospects but only 12 projected to be drafted. Sadly there doesn't seem to be any sure fire studs with the possible exception of Sergio Moe. Still looks solid though, might be a few hidden gems.

1. Sergio Moe - Tennessee - 21 - Early 1st

2. Michael Bell - Texas A&M - 21 - Mid 1st

3. Roman Pierce - Clemson - 22 - Mid 3rd

Fullback: ?

Do you really care about these guys? No? Ok, let's continue

Wide Receivers: B-

Ohh dang, 2 first round projected WRs, but a staggering 55 WR available to be drafted. This is pretty sad, lots of players in the mid/back-up tier. Interesting note, 9 of the projected 23 projected picks are 6’3” or taller. If you a team with a red zone threat need this is your draft to take one or two as there are about 2 in every round.

1. Riley Brien - Ole Miss - 21  - Mid 1st

2. Marcus Sanders - Colorado State - 22 - Late 1st

3. Dawson Davenport - SMU - 23 - Early 2nd

Tight Ends: B

A position that seems to get bigger as the league grows older, yet they keep increasing their speed and playmaking abilities. Class looks intriguing but would require a thorough look through to find the next great TE with the exception for maybe Gumbs as the next Gonzalez/Gronk.

1. Sanchez Gumbs - Penn State - 21 - Early 1st

2. Ben Kowalewski - Michigan - 21 - Late 1st

3. Tenner Cohen - Stanford - 22 - Mid 2nd

Tackle: A-

This class is loaded with tackle who can protect your QB but will come at a premium as they are all slated for the front part of the draft. A total of 20 tackles are projected to be drafted in this class. Many good looking players, but beware, this could turn into the 2013 draft all over again.

1. Ray Hoke - UCLA - 22 - Early 1st

2. Morgan Stewart - Cal - 22 - Mid 1st

3. Eric McMahon - Illinois - 22 - Late 1st

4. Brock Nowak - Arkansas - 22 - Late 1st

5. Malcome Murphy - Texas Tech - 23 - Early 2nd

Guard: B+

This is quite weird, we've got 4 guards likely to be selected in the first 40 or so picks. This is quite uncommon. You’d be more likely to see this when they’re taller players whom can be moved up and down the offensive line but most of them are under 6’3”.

1. Spencer Desir - Tennessee - 22 - Mid 1st

2. Denard Manning - Idaho - 23 - Late 1st

3. Henry Cummings - Rice - 21 - Late 1st

4. Gordon Sykes - Oklahoma - 21 - Mid 2nd

5. Cooper Roy - Texas A&M - 23 - Early 3rd

Center: B-

There’s plenty of quality at the Center position in this draft which raises the question of will they go like hotcakes or progressively trickle down with the board.

1. Graham Wells - Florida - 21 - Mid 2nd

2. Olajuwaun Iloka - Tennessee - 24 - Late 2nd

3. Frank Drayton - Texas Tech - 21 - Early 3rd

Defensive Tackles: B

This is a position you will see a lot of in most classes, this class follows suit as there are a projected 23 prospect to be drafted. Not heavy talent wise but will be able to allow team to find strong future players to develop for starting roles.

1. Pedro Coleman - Miami - 21 - Early 1st

2. Derek Walker - Stanford - 23 - Late 1st

3. J.T. Grissom - Kansas - 22 - Early 2nd

Defensive Ends: B+

This class is loaded with what I would consider Base and 3-4 DEs with a handful of true pass rushers near the top of the board in this position group. Pass Rushers always attract plenty of attention early. Interested to see who goes first.

1. Spencer Murdock - Penn State - 21 - Early 1st

2. Abram Murrell - Tennessee - 21 - Early 1st

3. Watts Hall - Kentucky - 22 - Mid 1st

4. Cameron Bromell - N. Illinois - 21 - Early 2nd

5. Wade Levcik - Utah - 22 - Early 2nd

MLB: B+

Even with 3 MLB inside the first round and 4 in the second this class only get a B+. Mainly because it's a fairly spread out class. There are 9 prospects slotted for the first two rounds of the draft but afterwards the talent level slides off and we’re left with 4 prospects between the 4th and 7th round. If you’re in desperate need for a Mike take him in the first round or you'll likely miss out.

1. Chase Portilla - UCLA - 23 - Mid 1st

2. Sean Denton - Columbia - 24 - Late 1st

3. Davon Herndon - GA. Southern - 22 - Late 1st

OLB: A-

Very similar with the MLBs with the OLB. Several talented players, they do have a few extra players so of course they have a few higher overall ranked players. Where they go will all come down the who picks where come draft time.

1. Douglas Orr - Penn State - 21 - Early 1st

2. Keith Blackwell - Penn State - 21 - Mid 1st

3. Paul McCord - Florida - 21 - Late 1st

4. Graham Brewer - Florida - 22 - Late 2nd

5. Mason Anders - N. Illinois - 24 - Late 2nd

Cornerbacks: B-

This position is where usually the guys who go early are safe picks and the guys outside of the 2nd round are boom or busts. Physical traits are very important at this position. This class should yield some top notch talent if they pan out.

1. Branch Benjamin - Oregon - 21 - Late 1st

2. Antwan Johns - Southern Miss - 23 - Late 1st

3. Dixon Miller - Kansas State - 22 - Early 2nd

Safeties: B

A very interesting dealer choice with Burke/Craig in the middle of round one. Both have the ability to be used as utility safeties and can play a variety of roles. I don't expect to see either of them slide past 20th. For the remainder it’s looking quite Hit/Miss so some guys might jump up the board.

1. Javier Burke - Florida State - 22 - Mid 1st

2. Jamal Craig - Wisconsin - 21 - Mid 1st

3. Steven Harrington - Bowling Green St. - 22 -  Early 2nd

This draft is definitely going to be good for another looking to upgrade at O-line or Linebacker, many of the other positions will likely go early and often as there is a limited supply of talent at many key positions.

Unique Draft Topic: Both Penn State and Florida lose both there starting OLBs to the draft and follow each other in the Rankings

Best position group: Tackle/OLB

Worst position group: Center/Running Back

Biggest surplus: WR (23 projected picked - 55 total players)

Best teams to watch going into the draft:

Steelers: Three 1st Round Selections (4th, 26th, 28th) One 2nd Round Selection (60th)

Broncos: Two 1st Round Selections(1st Overall, 18th) One 2nd Round Selections (33rd)

Packers: Two 1st Round Selections (17, 21) Two 2nd Round selections (38th, 49th)

Top 5 Players to Watch this Season - Season 1: Pre-Season

Top 5 Players to watch this season

I’m your host Dave David and this is the beginning of the league, like a rebirth of a phoenix, we are born into a new madden game and now we look onward to our hope and dreams of hosting a Lombardi Trophy. These are 5 players that will likely cause these teams to have a chance at the playoffs anf hosting the glorious trophy this season.

Lamar Jackson - QB - Ravens

The Raven have had their ups and downs since winning SB 47 behind a stout defence and future Hall-of-Famer Ray Lewis. The new Era of Ravens football has began with Jackson being named starting QB, Flacco being shopped around, and the addition of Tevin Coleman from the Falcons who is on a contract year should make things very interesting in the Ravens backfield. My early pick for AFC OROY.

Golden Tate lll - WR - Lions

After some time serving as a secondary receiver on most NFL teams Tate exploded with the Lions 4 years ago. Now he enters the last year of his deal, and at 30 the questions begin to swirl about if he firstly has the skills to remain among the top tier WRs but also does he deserve the extension? His numbers hover around 1k yards and 5 TDs but is that really worth a big chunk of the Lions salary? This season will make or break Tates future with the Lions.

George Kittle - TE - 49ers

With new starting QB Jimmy Garoppolo heading into his first full season with the 49ers he is looking to add great number, with great number he will have his favourites and it looks like he’s found one early with Kittle. Kittle now in his 2nd year as a pro has the speed to make superation against most linebackers. Expect him to be top 5 in TE receptions this season.

Lamarcus Joyner - Safety - Rams

Joyner is a top 5 middle of the field safety in the NFL. He's another player entering a contract year but I expect the Rams to lock him up within the first ? of the season. He has elite coverage ability and attacks the ball in the air. With Peters and Talib as his top 2 CBs I expect the Rams to keep this defensive ground around as long as they can.

Derwin James - Safety - Chargers

Lastly we’ve got the other LA samefty a player from the Chargers Derwin James for FSU. The rookie is one of the most well-rounded safeties to enter the league in the last 5 years. I expect him to instantly cause havoc in both the run and the pass game in the AFC.  James is my pre-season favorite for AFC DROY.

Playoff Breakdown and Preview: Season 1

Hello guys, I’m Dave David. Today we’re going to talk about the upcoming playoffs for our inaugural season. We are currently in week 15 and with only a handful of weeks left the playoff picture grows more clear with each advance and ever game played, whos in, whos out and whos on a bye. Let’s start with the AFC and see how it will breakdown. (Record taken from week 16 right at advance)

AFC

1. Browns (14-0)

2.  Chargers (13-1)

3. Titans (11-3)

4. Dolphins (10-4)

WC1. Patriots (9-5)

WC2. Broncos (8-6)

(Jets and Raiders are both 7-7 records at time of writing and are playoff hopefuls)

The AFC has been run this season by two teams, they even played in week 6 which came down to a last second field goal. The undefeated Browns and the Chargers have been the teams to beat in the AFC since week 4, both team have had close games but the numbers don't lie. The Browns boast the #2 offence in Yards and #1 in PPG, they also have a young and exciting defence with the least amount of points allowed in the league, top 10 in sacks and top 5 in turnovers. The chargers on the other hand are pounding the rock but still finding a way to make plays in the passing game. They lead the league in sacks, 3rd down conversion percentage and the 3rd defence in yards allowed, and 6th in points allowed. The remaining teams will all be playing in wildcard as the 1st round byes are now official for both Browns and Chargers. The Titans lead the league in turnovers and get them both on the ground and through the air they are a team to watch and will likely dominate on WC weekend. Pats and broncos still need to get some wins in the last 2 weeks to secure a date for the playoffs in January.

My pick for AFC representative in SB 53: The Browns

My pick to upset: Patriots

NFC

1. Eagles (12-2)

2. Rams (11-3)

3. Falcons (11-3)

4. Bears (7-7)

WC1. Redskins (10-4)

WC2. Cowboys (9-5)

(8-5-1 Niners and 8-6 Buccs are playoff hopefuls and Lions can sneak in to win the division currently 6-7-1)

As we sit we’ve got a close battle for #1 spot. Eagles, Rams Falcons all within 1 game of eachother with the Redskins knocking on the door and the Cowboys right behind them. As far as the outlook I expect the battle to be very close and really that any team could win the NFC. Except Buccs, he’s gonna blow it. Insert Adam Sandler meme. Redskins do boast the INT leader on the season, while the falcons have the 2nd highest player in rushing yards, but Guice is still inside the top 5 for the Redskins. Each of these teams bring a unique skill set to the table and should make for an amazing WC and Divisional round.

My pick for NFC representative in SB 53: Rams

My pick to upset: Redskins

Deep Dive: Dave's Mid-Season Mock Draft

Mid-Season Mock Draft - 1st Round

Today were going to be looking at the Dave’s First round Mock Draft for Year 1 of Madden Elite League. Picks are based off maddens rankings of them at time for week 8 to week 9 advance. Let’s get to it!

  1. Seahawks - Needs: O-Line, Cornerback, Tight End

The Pick: Cory Wallace, Tackle, Stanford

Wallace will be a day 1 starter for the seahawks and help anchor the tackle spots. This will help Seattle keep Wilson upright and looking to make plays downfield.

  1. Jaguars - Needs: Tackle, Inside Linebacker, Wide Receiver

The Pick: Harmon Porter, Wide Receiver, Texas A&M

Jags take the best player in the draft with Porter and add a dynamic player to their offence to compliment Fournette.

  1. Packers (via Saints) - Needs: Guard, Safety, Running Back

The Pick: Joseph Graves, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss

Packers acquired this pick last season to trade back with the Saints so they could select Davenport, in turn quite like Houston last year its a high pick. They select the best available player, Graves or as I can him Calvin Johnson the III

  1. Panthers - Needs: Safety, Pass Rusher, LG/LT

The Pick: Willis Blair, Pass Rusher, Georgia

Panthers look to get after the QB with and aging pass rusher and take the top pass rusher in the class. Watch out NFC South

  1. Texans - Needs: Tackles, Tight End, G/C

The Pick: Kirkland McCleskey, Tackle, Pittsburgh

Texans are getting sacked left and right this season, they help out Watson by taking a tackle who can shut down so effective pass-rushers.

  1. Ravens - Needs: Defensive End, Safety, G/C

The Pick: Tracy Hubbard, Defensive End, Stanford

Ravens take the run stopping DE Hubbard who will slow down a run heavy AFC North, this choice makes perfect sense to help stop guys like Bell, Mixon and Chubb

  1. Bengals - Needs: Quarterback, RG/RT, Outside Linebacker

The Pick: Javier Dawson, Tackle, Stanford

Bengals Follow up the Ravens pick by taking the next available tackle on the board. A nice counter to the ravens pick but should help bring some youth to this O-Line.

  1. Vikings - Needs: G/C, Safety, Cornerback

The Pick: Haynes Murphy, Cornerback, Alabama

Vikings are known for having some amazing players in their secondary, they select Haynes here and add another amazing CB for a solid 1-2 punch with Rhodes

  1. Bears - Needs: Tackle, Wide Receiver, Cornerbacks

The Pick: Julius Humphrey, Wide Receiver, Penn State

Bears take the sliding WR who can lineup outside and in the slot. He should be able to add depth and mix-up to a struggling bears offence.

  1. Raiders - Needs: Linebacker, Cornerback

The Pick: Malcolm Knox - Outside Linebacker, Florida State

Raider take the FSU standout and now look very scary with Knox and Mack lining up one in front the other. Expect this to be a great defensive duo.

  1. Steelers - Needs: Safety, Tackle, Quarterback

The Pick: Hayden Higgins, Tackle, Clemson

Steelers take a valuable Tackle and can now continue to impose one of the best offences in the NFL. More Brown, More Bell and More Ben.

  1. Packers - Needs: Guard, Safety, Running Back

The Pick: Tavon Canidate, Defensive End, Wisconsin

Packers take a DE with thier 2nd pick in the first round. This should be a good as he can be mentored by Kenny Clarke and Mike Daniels

  1. Giants - Needs: Quarterback, Defensive End, Linebacker

The Pick: Jack Camelot, Quarterback, Louisville

The Eli manning Era is over, the Barkley/Camelot Ear begins. This will bring youth back to this offence and might see them soar up the board in season 2.

  1. Colts - Needs: Running Back, Cornerback, Linebackers

The Pick:  Melvin McCullum, Running Back, Wisconsin

Colts finally have a running back that can be an every down back. This should give the Colts offence balance. Expect them to have a good run in the south next season.

  1. Jets - Needs: O-Line, Safety, Tight End

The Pick: Sherman Simpson, Defensive Tackle, Alabama

Jets find a replacement for their aging DT, the jets keep working on their defence and should improve pass rush and overall line play.

  1. Patriots - Needs: Inside Linebacker, Safety, Quarterback

The Pick: Tavaras Cash, Inside Linebacker, Wisconsin

Pats take a much needed inside linebacker to anchor a good defence. This team needs a great centerpiece to an already good defence.

  1. Chiefs - Needs: Safety, G/C, Defensive Tackle

The Pick: Khari Loub, Defensive Tackle, Stanford

Chiefs look to start the rebuild on a very slip defence when it comes to age. This should allow them to start building a quality defence for the future.

  1. Buccs - Needs: LT/LG, Safety, Cornerback

The Pick: Deandre Stokes, Cornerback, Michigan State

Buccs take the best CB left on the board., with that we should see vernon hargreaves iii put up or shut up for the #2 CB spot on the roster.

  1. 49ers - Needs: Wide Receiver, Outside Linebacker, G/C

The Pick: Maudrecus Roan, Wide Receiver, Wisconsin

49ers take the sliding WR and give Jimmy G one of the best young targets from this upcoming class. This will be a great pick for the future that gets them there own 3-headed monster with Jimmy G, McKinnon and Roan.

  1. Bills - Needs: O-Line, Wide Receiver, Cornerback

The Pick:  Rashad Stupar, Cornerback, Ole Miss

Bills look to improve their pass defence, with the history of the Bills taking man good young CBs but losing them to free agency I hope they can keep this guy around.

  1. Cardinals - Needs: O-Line, Tight End, Inside Linebacker

The Pick:  Ray Castillo, Guard, Ohio State

Cardinals need to protect their franchise QB and with this pick they’re putting him first. This pick helps both Rosen and David Johnson

  1. Lions - Needs: Outside Linebacker, Cornerback, Safety

The Pick: Joseph Kinne, Outside Linebacker, Florida

Lions take a great pass coverage linebacker. Defence is a must need in a division with such offensive talent in this division.

  1. Cowboys - Needs: Safety, Tight End, Wide Receiver

The Pick: Mustafa Pierson, Safety, Texas

Cowboys keep working on their defence with a big hitting safety from Texas. Adding another young defensive piece to this set should give the cowboys a fun option over the top.

  1. Broncos - Needs: RG/RT, Defensive End, Safety

The Pick: Leveon Tate, Safety, Penn State

Broncos look to continue adding to there one great defence. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a QB go here but it’s all gonna come down to how the Broncos feel come draft day.

  1. Rams - Needs: Guard, Outside Linebacker, Tight End

The Pick: Denard Nelson, Outside Linebacker, Clemson

Rams buff their already outstanding team with a good all around linebacker to clean up what Aaron Donald doesn’t in the run game.

  1. Titans - Needs: Safety, Wide Receiver, Guard

The Pick: Parker Shields, Guard, Nebraska

Titans take Shields to continue improvement on their O-Line, and at the same time look to then trade veteran in the future for pieces to improve other areas.

  1. Redskins - Needs: G/C, Cornerback, Quarterback

The Pick: Ellis Gholston, Cornerback, Louisville

Redskins look to help out an aging group of veteran CBs and bring some youth in. Will likely be starter in the slot, might crack 2nd during the camp/pre-season battles.

  1. Falcons - Needs: Guards, Outside Linebacker, Tight End

The Pick: Reilly Hartman, Tight End, Texas

Falcons really are one team without many holes. Last year they took Ridley in round one, this time they take the top ranked TE which might make this one of the best offences ever put to paper in the NFLs history.

  1. Dolphins  - Needs: G/C, Outside Linebackers, Safety

The Pick: Curtis Steltz, Center, Clemson

The Phins have been solid all around but chose to improve their lackluster O-Line with this pick. Not much to say other then you never have enough good O-Linemen

  1. Chargers - Needs: Linebacker, Safety, Center

The Pick: Alexander Snyder, Guard, Tennessee

Chargers take guard Snyder, it’s obvious that the charger O-Line is their weak-point and they try to correct it with this selection in the first round.

  1. Eagles  - Needs: Safey, Outside Linebacker, Defensive End

The Pick: Asher Anderson, Safety, Notre Dame

Eagles are another all-around team that don’t have many holes. This pick means they can groom Anderson to be the next Malcolm Jenkins and ot force him into a starting role.

  1. Browns - Needs: RG/RT, Outside Linebacker, Defensive Tackle

The Pick: Stanley Mosley, Defensive Tackle, Wisconsin

With the last pick in round one the Browns keep it simple and take the best available player in Mosley. This will compliment Myles Garrett quite well and improve a young and talented defence.

Boom or Bust Prospects: First Round Edition

Hello everyone, it's Dave David and we will be talking about boom or bust players in this seasons upcoming NFL draft. This segment will have me highlight 3 players in roughly the first round who have potential to be superstars, or players who might make Manziel look like the best pick the Browns ever made. Let’s get into it!

#1. Cory Wallace/Kirkland McCleskey/Javier Dawson - Tackle - 23yo/22yo/22yo

Coming out with a curveball by naming 3 prospects. The only difference between these guys I see right now is about 5 pounds and a few inches. These guys are both extremely strong and independent in their respective lines. I however fear that we will get a repeat of the 2013 draft where we saw many Tackles go early but very few panned out.

Ranked #4, 7 & 9  Prospect by madden.

Dave's Rank: #2, #4 & #5

#2. Melvin McCullum - HB - Wisconsin - 21yo

Kirby is one of the youngest players in the draft at 21yo. He is currently playing for Wisconsin and his having a productive year and will declare for the NFL draft. Currently the Badgers are projected to have a large amount of their starters drafted including including his quarterback and two of his WRs. He should be interesting to see if all the hype is caused my the players around him or by the skills he possess.

Ranked #14 Prospect by Madden

Dave's Rank: #20

#3. Joseph Kinne - OLB - Florida - 22yo

Kinne has been a large part of Florida’s success along with top ranked QB Warren Brock. These guys have been a perfect 1-2 punch on both sides of the ball The real question is he as talented as the film shows or is this all caused by the surreal play by offence. Expect him to fit in at both 3-4 and 4-3 OLB and likely in sub packages too.

Ranked #21 Prospect by Madden

Dave's Rank: #35

Top 5 Rookies so Far this Season

Top 5 Players Rookies so far this season

I’m your host Dave David and we currently sit at week 6 or the ? way mark for this season. We’re going to be looking around at the best rookie campaigns so far from the 2018 NFL draft class. This is in no particular order these are the top 5 rookies so far this season.

Josh Allen - QB - Bills

“The Bills have been searching for a franchise QB for many years now and it looks like they’ve got something special with Allen.” That was a quote from my week 2 article on players to watch. As of right now Allen leads the league in passing yards with 1489, 63% completion and 11-14 TD to INT. He’s slinging the rock with the best of em, but he’s clearly struggling in the turnover department which is always common for rookie QBs. He may join Dak Prescott and Teddy Bridgewater as some of the recent rookie QBs to make the Pro Bowl.

Nick Chubb - RB - Browns

Chubbs impressive beginning to his season is impart credit to solid offensive line play and rookie QB Baker Mayfield as he’s only turned the ball over once this season. Chubb has toked the rock a lot with 3rd most carries in the NFL behind Henry and Gordon. Even with the heavy workload he’s averaging 5 yards per carry and 7 TDs through 5 week. I expect teams to begin keying on him and for Mayfield to beat them downfield.

Michael Gallup - WR - Cowboys

Without Dez in the building the competition for #1 WR on the boys is wide open. Gallup has claimed that job with ease, he currently is the cowboys leader in; receptions, receiving yards, tied for TDs and has over 100 yards of RAC. The rookie from Colorado State has looked impressive and will likely be another rookie attempting to sneak into the pro bowl.

Fred Warner - OLB - 49ers

Back to the other side of the ball where we’re headed out to the bay to talk about the 6’4” monster rookie who’s been baiting QBs all season and has 4 ints to show for it. This guy's an all around rookie but no one figured he’d be tied with a CB & Safety for most INTs in the league in week 6. He’s also racked up 5 TFL, 1 sack, and 1 FF. Watch out for the new combo at LB Foster and Warner.

Derwin James - Safety - Chargers

Lastly we’ve got a player from my Chargers. As of right now he’s the only rookie with multiple forced fumbles. Adding 13 solo tackles in 5 games, 1 TFL, 1 sack and 3 pass defends. He may not have notched any INTs yet this season but he’s always near the ball and is making plays on it. Expect to see this guy all over the field lined up at every spot if/when you play the Chargers.

Top 5 Players to Watch this Season

Top 5 Players to watch this season

I’m your host Dave David and this is the beginning of the league, like a rebirth of a phoenix, we are born into a new madden game and now we look onward to our hope and dreams of hosting a Lombardi Trophy. These are 5 players that will likely cause these teams to have a chance at the playoffs anf hosting the glorious trophy this season.

Josh Allen - QB - Bills

The Bills have been searching for a franchise QB for many years now and it looks like they’ve got something special with Allen. As of right now the Team is 0-2 after losing a close battle vs the Chargers 37-27. Allen currently boasts 640 passing yards, with 65% completion and 4-5 TD to INT ratio. Besides the poor TD/INT number which usually comes with a rookie campaign he’s single handedly kept the bills in both game so far and will be a piece this team build around for years to come.

Derrick Henry - HB - Titans

After some time serving as a back-up and power back Henry has gotten his chance to be a feature back of the Titans and hasn’t shined away from the limelight. As of right now he has only touched the ball 25 times in the ground game and has 224 yards, which is 9.0 yards per carry and 5 TDs. Lewis is still seeing a fair share of carrie but no where near the production of Henry. The former 2015 Heisman winner might be looking to add a OPOY or even a MVP to his trophy case.

George Kittle - TE - 49ers

With new starting QB Jimmy Garoppolo heading into his first full season with the 49ers he is looking to add great number, with great number he will have his favourites and it looks like he’s found one early with Kittle. Kittle has 11 of 25 of Garoppolo’s passes with 231 yards and 2 TDs. Although Kittle isn’t putting up large after the catch numbers he’s still able to get significant separation to create easy completions of Jimmy. If Kittlew keeps up these numbers I expect to see him with his first Pro Bowl selection this season.

Zach Brown - MLB - Redskins

Let’s talk defence, I honestly didn’t expect much from the Redskins this season with a new QB, RB and my holes left in question. However, to my surprise the captain of the Redskins defence has come out to shine, he’s already racked up 6 solo tackles, 4 of which we’re for a loss, along with 2 INTs, one was returned to the house. I love what he’s doing for this Redskins team and will elevate this team to playoff potential if they can compete with the Eagles and Cowboys. I expect Brown to be named to his 2nd Career Pro Bowl.

Anthony Zettel - DE - Lions

Lastly we’ve got a player going into their 3rd season and has gotten out of the gate quite quickly as he has racked up 4.5 sacks in two games. Zettel was always known as a run stopper but has now began to round out his game and is impacting the pass game. Ezekiel Ansah and him both have 4.5 sacks and I expect them to rival other pass rush duos like Miller/Chubb, Watt/Clowney and Ingram/Bosa. Look for the Lions to rank high on the defensive side of the ball which might see them sneaking into the playoffs.

Deep Dive: Draft Class Breakdown - Season 1

Season 1: Draft Class Preview/Review

Hey guys, today we are going to be grading every position in the upcoming draft. Easy premises, we go through the positions, rank them and I'll list the top players at the respective position and their projected pick area. Let's start with the guys who get all the credit or downfall of teams.

Quarterbacks: C+

This is not the best year to be looking for a QB through the draft, this class doesn’t have a clear cut #1 QB. I expect it to mainly be off team preferences. The combine and pro days will likely see the greatest separation or we may just see more of a take one of them there all the same with a different names come draft day.

1. Jack Calmelat - Louisville - 23  - Mid 1st

2. Brennan Ebert - Wisconsin - 21 - Late 1st

3. Warren Brock - Florida - 22 - Mid 2nd

Halfbacks: C-

The halfback class is as deep as last season with  with 15 prospects projected to be drafted, but only one is currently slated to be selected on day 1. I expect to see majority of the RBs to be selected between picks 40-60 with likely 3-5 going between those picks. Overall this is a balanced class in terms of skills but not as far as talent goes.

1. Melvin McCullum - Wisconsin - 21 - Mid 1st

2. Jazzario Carter - Nebraska - 24 - Early 2nd

3. Dixon McBride - Penn State - 22 - Early 2nd

Fullback: ?

Do you really care about these guys? No? Ok, let's continue

Wide Receivers: A+

When the last time we had a trio of WRs projected top 5? Never right?! How about All 3 of those WRs are projected to be the top 3 players in the class! I think we’re going to see one of the best WR classes since 2014, who included players like OBJ, Allen Robinson, Jarvis Landry, Mike Evans, Sammy Watkins, Martavis Bryant & Brandin Cooks. I’m excited to see how this class shakes out.

1. Harmon Porter - Texas A&M - 23 - Early 1st

2. Joseph Graves - Ole Miss - 22 - Early 1st

3. Julius Humphrey - Penn State - 22 - Early 1st

4. Maudrecus Roan - Wisconsin - 22 - Mid 1st

5. Carroll Cattouse - Wisconsin - 24 - Late 1st

Tight Ends: B-

This year we don't have a plethora of TEs but we seem to have enough depth in the class that there's just enough to keep things interesting. Looks like we will be getting another class full of receiving TEs as only 2 would be considered blocking TEs out of all projected draft picks at the position. Could we see the next Gronk from this class?

1. Reilly Hartmann - Texas - 22 - Late 1st

2. Raysean Baber - Ohio State - 21 - Early 2nd

3. Tres Datko - New Mexico - 22 - Mid 3rd

Tackle: A-

This class is loaded with tackle who can protect your QB but you’ll likely need to pay a pretty penny to get high enough in the draft to select one of these blue chip pass protectors. If your looking to fill starting role on your tackle this is the class for those who can afford it or get a high enough pick. Watch out for 2 of the top 3 tackles coming from Sanford, whos going to shake out to be the better prospect?

1. Cory Wallace - Stanford - 23 - Early 1st

2. Kirkland McCleskey - Pittsburgh - 22 - Early 1st

3. Javier Dawson - Stanford - 22 - Early 1st

4. Hayden Higgins - Clemson - 24 - Mid 1st

5. Reggie Richardson - Georgia Tech - 22 - Mid 2nd

Guard: B-

This group has me kinda puzzled. There are talented players here I think but it’s going to be hard to convince me that any of these guys are worth more than a Mid 2nd round or later selection. Since 2010 there have only been 9 guards selected in the first round.

1. Ray Castillo - Ohio State - 22 - Late 1st

2. Alexander Snyder - Tennessee - 23 - Early 2nd

3. Parker Shields - Nebraska - 23 - Mid 2nd

4. Jarell Menzie - Buffalo - 23 - Early 3rd

5. Tramon Harmon - Florida - 22 - Mid 3rd

Center: D+

This class has very limited selection of valuable interior lineman, expect to see guys move guards to Center this off season from the draft or FA to combat this weaker class.

1. Curtis Steltz - Clemson - 22 - Early 2nd

2. Taylor Hoskins - Boise State - 23 - Late 4th

3. Stanley Curry - Kansas State - 21 - Early 5th

Defensive Tackles: B

This is a position you will see a lot of in most classes, and welcome to one of them. This position group is decent in depth with 26 projected players drafted, but only 3 in the 1st round players and lots of late rounders that might be intriguing players to gamble a late pick on.

1. Sherman Simpson - Alabama - 22 - Early 1st

2. Khari Loud - Stanford - 23 - Mid 1st

3. Stanley Mosley - Wisconsin - 22 - Late 1st

Defensive Ends: B

This class is loaded with power, sadly not many speed rushers for those looking for the next Bosa/Mack. This is a mixed class but most of these players are proficient in moving O-Linemen out of the way and eating up blocks so their teammates can make plays.

1. Tracy Hubbard - Stanford - 23 - Early 1st

2. Willis Blair - Georgia - 23 - Early 1st

3. Tavon Canidate - Wisconsin - 24 - Mid 1st

4. Becket Sherman - Iowa - 24 - Mid 2nd

5. Savon Enunwa - Texas - 24 - Late 2nd

MLB: B

Sad to say it’s hard to find a great MLB now a days in the draft. Only 4 players are projected to be taken in the first 3 rounds which could cause them to go early and often or some people to over pay this off-season in FA and re-sign negotiations.

1. Tavaras Cash - Wisconsin - 22 - Late 1st

2. Ray Cohen - Stanford - 23 - Mid 2nd

3. Mikhail Naanee - Wake Forest - 22 - Late 3rd

OLB: C+

This is sad to see as I will officially declare that there are only 2-3 good pass rushers in this draft. That means players might be coming at a premium this off-season and we might see some Olivier Vernon style contracts handed out. I hop you don't need a linebacker in the draft because it doesn’t look like you’ll be getting much help this year

1. Malcolm Knox - FSU - 23 - Mid 1st

2. Joseph Kinne - Florida - 21 - Late 1st

3. Denard Nelson - Clemson - 23 - Late 1st

4. Deontae Barksdale - Memphis - 23 - Late 2nd

5. Wyatt Nimmo - Rutgers - 24 - Mid 3rd

Cornerbacks: A+

All praise to the madden gods as they have sent us a class from the heavens and not 3, not 4 but 5 cornerbacks to go in the 1st round! Thank you! This is going to be one of the most exciting 1st round. We might be looking at the most talented class we have ever had, and some of the best rookie WR vs rookie CB battles in years.

1. Haynes Murphy - Alabama - 22 - Mid 1st

2. Deandre Stokes - Michigan State - 23 - Late 1st

3. Rashad Stupar - Ole Miss - 22 - Late 1st

4. Tyson Soward - Auburn - 23 - Late 1st

5. Ellis Gholston - Louisville - 23 - Late 1st

Safeties: B+

This class has talent but is more geared for the first 2 rounder. 6 out of 20 player are projected to go in the first two rounds. Some players look to have pure talent while others might best be suited for left bench. Hybrids are great by the way, go watch Jurassic World and you’ll understand why.

1. Asher Anderson- Notre Dame - 24 - Mid 1st

2. Justice Tyler - Alabama - 22 - Mid 1st

3. Mustafa Pierson - Texas - 23 - Late 1st

This draft is definitely going to be good for another looking to upgrade at Cornerback, Wide Receiver or Tackles, many of the other positions will likely go early and often as there is a limited supply of talent at many key positions including Safety, TE and DE. Expect Quarterbacks to slide in this class due to lack of stand outs, very similar with Running Backs.

Best position group: Cornerbacks & Wide Receivers

Worst position group: Center & OLB

Biggest surplus: WR (30 projected picked - 54 total players)

Biggest Player Supplier: 10 from Wisconsin

(Top 3 round projections only)

Teams to watch as we move forward

Packers: Two 1st round selections (Saints, both projected top 15)

Broncos: One 1st, Two 2nd round selections (Own, Jags)

Chargers: One 1st, Two 2nd Round selections (Texans & Titans)

Top 5 Impact Rookies - Week 4 Edition

Hey guys, it’s Dave David here and today we’re going to talk about the top 5 impact rookies of this season to date. We will take a look at both offensive and defensive players and see whom have made the biggest impact so far for their respective teams. Let it begin with #5….

5. Marquise Harold - RB - NYJ - 8th pick, 2nd round

Jets have made good use of their 2nd round RB as he's just over 450 all purpose yards. Jets have been able to feed him the ball steadily and allow him to make guys miss including 10 broken tackles and just under 100 yards after contact. Expect this man to make a run for AFC OROY.

4. Brandan Poteat - MLB - Ravens - 15th pick, 1st round

This ravens defender has stopped into a average defence and made them incredibly stronger after just 4 games. He has been as stout as you can be in the run game to date with 28 solo and 41 total tackles along with 2 TLF and one sack to his name so far. Compared to the rest of the league he is tied for 4th in solo and is tied for 2nd in total tackles. For now I would call him Elite in the run game, expect him to steadily improve his coverage and blitzing game as the season progresses.

3. Morgan McBride - WR - Titans - Undrafted

Mcbride makes this list as he is the current receiving yard leader among rookies with 343 yard, but get this. He only has 11 receptions. That means he’s averaging 31.2 yard per catch and 12.1 yards are coming after the catch. How is this guy doing it?! He’s also added 4 TDs to his name so far. This man could be the next Desean Jackson. Watch out AFC South.

2. Matt Atkinson - CB - Colts - 4th pick, 1st round

Now this man was highly touted coming out of college and the colts elected to take him at 4th overall which was met with some speculation as he was ranked as the top CB but wasn't slotted until late in the 1st round. This speculation was diminished during his 2nd game where he picked off sophomore QB Sam Darnold of the Browns and too it 84 yards to the house which ultimately won them the game. Since then he has recorded another pick in each of the following 2 games and looks to becoming a great ball-hawk for this upcoming Colts defence. Looking forward to Atkinson vs McBride in the coming weeks as they will face off twice this season, including next week in week 5.

1. Rashard Forsett - CB - Falcons -  20th pick, 1st round

To the top player to make an impact so far we stay in the CB from the draft but go with the Falcons selection at 20th and Forsett has made a huge impact to this club already. Like Atkinson he has 3 ints this season but this man was able to get 2 pick-6s in his first NFL game along with only 3 catches allowed all season. The Falcons and Colts play in week 8, expect these guys to try and shut down the teams top pass catchers.

Thanks for the read guys, avoid the user.
