It's true the Broncos are in a full rebuild mode(with the exceptions of Miller & Harris). They've shuffled some pieces; unexpectedly trading undrafted upstart Phillip Lindsay for MRL(Mobile Rocket Launcher) Josh Allen. Allen has struggled since coming over but has shown the flashes of greatness the Broncos traded for. It doesn't help the Broncos traded away security blanket Emmanuel Sanders. Keelan Cole(acquired in the Sanders trade) had a breakout performace last week vs the Colts(3 rec 140 yds 1 td). The Broncos consider Cole a poor man's Sanders. They signed him to an extension and think with Cole, youngsters Sutton & Fant, they have a core to build around.
Denver liked what they saw in Royce Freeman in the preseason. Combine that with Coach Sian's preference for power backs; it made trading Lindsay for Allen easy. Unfortunately Freeman was lost for the season(collarbone) last week vs the Colts. Devontae Booker will be called upon to pick up the slack. The signing of Darius Jackson is intriguing. He has the size and speed combo coveted in any runninback. Akrum Wadley rounds out the RB depth and despite being on the roster for the majority of the season, hasn't seen any action. Look to him to possibly step into a return role.
Defensively the Broncos have been tough all year. 10th in points against as well as 10th against the run. For the most part teams don't run vs the Broncos. A couple big plays here and there accounts for the majority of yards given up. The pass defense, on the other hand, hasn't been great despite Miller's 19 sacks. MLB play has been inconsisten and will be an area of concern for the Broncos in the offseason.
The playoffs are still in reach but Denver faces a fairly tough schedule the rest of the way. Typically a team in rebuild mode isn't going to compete but it's anyone's guess how the rest of the season will play out at this point.
After a 2 year hiatus, Coach Nabosian has returned to take over a Broncos team that is a bit of an enigma.
The Broncos are a veteran laden team led by Von Miller, in-human Emmanuel Sanders(returning 8 months after Achilles injury), Chris Harris and newcomer Kareem Jackson. Every one of those players is on the down-turn of their career and there isn’t many young budding stars.
Bradley Chubb and Phillip Lindsay headline the youngsters but that’s about it. Drew Lock was drafted to be the quarterback of the future but many questions remain about his viability. Courtland Sutton is another unproven highly touted youngster that will need to grow leaps and bounds for this offense to be a threat.
Right now it seems to me the Broncos are stuck between the proverbial rock and a hard place. Will the Broncos look to scour the waiver wire to add depth pieces and compete; or blow it up and go into full rebuild. Only time will tell.
