Let's talk TRUE SIM

Does it mean let's make crazy rules?
Ban things we don't like to see in a game?
Ban "Cheese"?

I don't think so.

I've been in/ran many "Sim" leagues.

Some with some very weird rules that I question. Let's start off with where I'm coming from. I have been on Virgin/World Gaming playing no rules football for years. I can play sim and tournament style. I consider myself above average. I enjoy playing SIM and Tournament style. But, what baffles me is the rules that some leagues come up with. Let's take for instance the "No Huddle Rule".

So, I've seen Peyton Manning go no huddle calling plays at the line and absolutely put a defense on their heels. Having the D hurry to the line and attempt to stop the next play that the Colts/Broncos have mastered.

Now lets revert that to Madden. If I have an ACTUAL scheme (MULTIPLE PLAYS not JUST RUNNING 2 PLAYS) and I don't want the defense keying in on a read or being able to change their play in the huddle, then the most intelligent tactic is to NO HUDDLE. So that requires the defense to have their audibles set and ready to combat my offense. Instead, SIM leagues have reverted to a no huddle or "you're only able to do it one time". Once again how is that SIM? So, are people using this rule because they don't like stopping something that legitimately happens in football, or does it just satisfy their own needs to dumb the game down?

Scoring: I have seen certain leagues say if I'm up 21 in the 4th quarter I'm only allowed to call run plays, because I'm not allowed to run up the score, or 49 points is the cutoff once I'm up 21 points. If someone fumbles twice and their opponent gets and onside that rule is flawed immediately (Saw the exact same scenario happen, not once but twice in the same league last year).

Play Calling: Ok here's where I see a major difference in tournament style play and SIM. Tournament style players on average have 5-6 plays they run all game. If you can't stop it TOUGH they are going to run the same play all game! Sim play should be 6-7 formations if not more and atleast 5 plays out of each formation, because that is what you will see in the NFL. I've been playing SIM leagues lately with guys only running pistol counter and their defense is all over youtube.

Nanos: Ok people nanos are a thing of the past. The only reason you still see them being used on youtube and ebooks is because the term "NANO" caught on and it gets the youtube views and sells ebooks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmCnwZqijl8 That is a true NANO blitz. You could do nothing when it came to pinching, sliding or blocking a back to set a chip block. Yet, SIM leagues are still talking about blitzes. Nanos are DEAD, everything can be blocked in this game. (If someone does think play action is the way to stop blitzes they are wrong if the offense pass commits, which in turn if they do pass commit, and you run the ball you will gash the defense.)

So here's my point in typing this up: Are people using rules in SIM leagues to make it dumbed down for their own benefit or actually want to play like it is on Sundays. I personally have been trying to figure this out for years. If I was to see what it's like to drive a Nascar Racer and hop into a Simulator, and it is going 350 mph and doing backflips in turns, I'm going to question who really tagged the ride as sim. When I hop into a SIM league and the guy is running 4 plays on offense in the same formation all game and 2 different defensive plays, and he's the commish, I find myself dumbfounded. A list of rules of what I can and can't do, the rules control my tempo that i want to go at, and tell me what I can and can't do. I think it's time SIM Rules are re-formatted and explained to what it really means to play SIM!
