Ripkowski’s Road To MBL

After redshirting during his freshman year, Ripkowski earned the starting quarterback job. In his first season, he led USC to victories over top-10 Oregon and Stanford teams and a birth in the Sun Bowl. Playing in a run-oriented offense featuring a Heisman Trophy runner-up, Ripkowski threw for 2,575 yards. He also had 2,929 yards of total offense, the fifth highest total in USC history. He led the Pac-10 in pass efficiency rating with a rating of 143.5, and finished second in the Pac-10 in total offense.

In his Sophomore and Junior seasons, Ripkowski excelled at USC as a big named college Quarterback. Ripkowski’s sophomore season he led USC to a 12–1 record, a # 4 ranking in the final AP Poll, and a victory in the Orange Bowl. He was named the Orange Bowl MVP after throwing 4 TD passes in USC’s 40–12 win over Virginia Tech. He led the Pac-10 in pass efficiency for the second straight year with a quarterback rating of 170.2. Ripkowski led USC to a record of 11–2, a berth in a BCS bowl, and a # 7 ranking in the final AP Poll. He won the Maxwell Award and the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award. He was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy for the second consecutive year, was also named First Team All-Pac-12 for the second straight year. Ripkowski became USC’s all-time leader in winning percentage by a starting quarterback, with a winning percentage of .816 (31–7). He broke the Pac-12 records for career passing efficiency rating (162.8) and career completion percentage (67.0%). He also broke his own Pac-12 record for highest completion percentage in a season (71.3%).

Draft Diamonds Scouting Report

In the the latest Mock Draft Dough Mcshay and Gub Kiper Jr both have Ripkowski going to Green Bay at #1 overall. This guy is the total package, yeah hes not a real mobile QB but you draft Quarterbacks to throw the ball not run the ball. Ripkowski got the best arm in this draft and the best arm we have seen coming out of college in years! This guy is a day one starter and is a tremndous leader, we have seen what hes done at USC and I think thats gonna translate to MBL. If Green Bay grabs this dude at #1 I say hes the next Aaron Rodgers.

Kilgore and Hart come to Oakland

We take a look back on the move that shook the MBL draft. During the offseason the Raiders didnt make much movement during the free agency period as they only seemed to sign players to fill roster spots and didnt land any of the big named players that they needed. The Raiders had an obvious void in their secondary with only one reliable corner in Jabari Mack. Coming off an 8-8 season and failing to get a winning season once again, Oakland needed to make an impact somewhere this offseason if they expected to get over the .500 hump.

As we headed into the draft the Raiders stayed quiet going unnoticed, as the rest of the league was starting to heat up with trade talks such as the New York Giants moving up to the #2 spot looking to grab possibly the best cornerback in the draft. With a high demand at corner the Raiders didnt seem to be interested to move up from pick #19 to grab one of the star CB's.

As the MBL Draft got underway there were a couple shocking moves as the Jaguars who had the #1 overall pick went with CB Tavares Newman when they just lost their starting QB in free agency. Next the Giants and Saints each take a cornerback in Phelps and McGee, leaving only a couple CBs worthy of a 1st round pick. As the Jets go on the clock a last minute trade goes through as Oakland steps in to take the #4 spot in the draft. This simply left the whole league in shock, especially Tampa Bay who despreatly needed a CB. with the #4 overall pick the Oakland Raiders steal the best cornerback in the draft Rijo Kilgore.

As we move on down to the Raiders 2nd pick #24 overall they add another star in their secondary Ahmad Hart who just happens to be the best Safety in the draft as well. Kilgore and Hart are great additions and go to a team in need of stopping the pass and eyeing to get to a winning season and possibly a playoff birth. These two studs will be a huge help to slow down the passing attacks of  Denver, Kansas City and San Diego. We are through week 3, Kilgore and Hart combine for 16 tackles and 4 interceptions on the season so far, showing what an impact they can be. The highlight of these two guys is the interception by Kilgore late in the game to seal the win over the Miami Dolphins. Despite starting out 1-2 there is still an expectation to get over the 8-8 hump and to a winning season this year.

- The Oakland Raiders received a B+ in the latest AFC West Draft grades by MBL Draft Diamonds.

BANG OR BUST?!?

I got Derel Spencer Strong Safety From Oaklahoma as this years Bang or Bust Pick. A player that was a walk on his junior year and didnt play a down until recently getting bumped up to the starting position from 3rd string early his senior year due to some injuries on the depth chart. No one has heard of this kid until he blasted on to the college football scene in week 2.

Spencer had a stellar season but showed some concern in the pass game where he got exploited in some key games, simply a raw player against the elites of college football. Despite having some up and downs, Derel was invited to the College All Star Game where he put on a show and seemed unstoppable as he was voted the MVP of the game. After performing extremly well at the combine Spencer showed MBL scoutes just how athletic he was, and coming out as a clear big time athlete. When Pro Day came along Spencer declined to attend the workouts claiming "I have shown enough" which raised many question marks as to if he wasnt confident to put up those same numbers he did a few weeks ago at the combine.

Since his recent success at the College All Star Game and his performance at the MBL Combine D. Spencer went from a 4th round pick to the top Strong Safety prospect in the draft. Despite all this I have him as a bust in the first round. Dont get me wrong this kid can play but I think he is a player to sit a year or two and develope. Once he learns the game more and gets the feel of the pros he will be a nice starter to plug in 2 or 3 years from now. Derel Spencer is a 3rd or 4th round guy, great athlete but in my opinion drafting him anywhere in the first round is a really big gamble.

Who is the safest pick in the MBL Draft?

Wide Receiver Lawrence Jones is the safest pick in the draft right now. If you are looking for a plug in guy guarenteed to start day one and make an immediate impact on your team find a way to grab him. Jones is from Texas A&M and is the best WR to come out of his school since Mike Evans. Lawrence holds the all time school receiving record for most receptions in a career with 256, he was a 4 year starter, never missed a game in his career. This guy isnt a star receiver coming out of college and isnt a highlight reel type of guy, this Texas Aggie is a tough receiver thats all about production.

Jones makes his living moving the chains and catching touchdowns in the redzone, great hands, good size and can run any route in the book. I see him as one of the most balanced players in this draft class but unlike the others hes rated at the top with zero off the field issues. On paper Lawrence Jones is the complete package, sure he doesnt have the flash as some of the other recievers on the board that are running in the 4.3's but if i got a top 10 pick im getting this guy on my team. I believe he will come out day one work hard and become the future of your franchise.

Does Seattle Have What It Takes To Win It All?

After finishing season 15 at 10-6 and getting destroyed by the Atlanta Falcons in the Divisional Round, Seattle went back to work in the offseason. After some key Free Agent additions the Seahawks landed a big signing in veteran corner Sam Shields to pair up with Richard Sherman. The Seahawks felt like that wasnt enough as they traded up to grab some top picks in the draft to go on and get WR Spenser Mays with the #3 overall pick in the draft to help out Russell Wilson and went back t it to draft ROLB Darius Pruitt with the 8th overall pick to become an instant starter. Owner Jbastin felt like he made the right moves with these 3 players to get over the hump to get to the next level, and boy was he right.

Sam shields recorded 4 interceptions on the season ranking him 3rd on the team, Rookie ROLB Darius Pruitt made a solid impact on defense and got 32 tackles, 3 sacks and 2 interceptions, Rookie WR Spenser Mays came in and lit up the league hauling in 70 catches for 1,094 yards and 14 Touchdowns ranking him 3rd in recieving yards out of all the rookies in MBL. QB Russell Wilson is well in the MVP talks and MLB Bobby Wagner is keeping his eye on the Defensive Player of The Year announcement as these 2 guys came off a stellar season on both top ranked offenses and defenses.

Despite going 14-2 the Seahawks lost to the 2 powerhouse organizations the Detroit Lions and the Atlanta Falcons, these 2 losses makes you wonder if they can overcome these next possible matchups in the playoffs. All eyes will be on Jbastin to see if he can finish with a Super Bowl win especially after winning the MBL Owner Of The Year Award.

Week 3 Divisional Match Up San Fransisco 49ers vs Arizona Cardinals!

This week we got another great divisional match up from the NFC West! The (0-2) 49ers vs (2-0) Cardinals! On paper this is a heavily one sided match up with the Cardinals who have shot out the blocks and the 49ers who are off to a bit of a slow start to the 2019 season. Lets start with this Arizona defense which is one of the better defenses in MBL, currently ranked 2nd in Total Yards and Passing yards but are struggling with their run defense that is ranked 28th in the league. This secondary is doing a great job led by LSU products Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu, the run defense is simply underperforming as the linebacker core and defensive line is well rounded. Despite giving up nearly 90 rushing yards a game Arizona has only given up 15 points a game shutting down the pass. On offense these Cardinals got a young set of weapons at every position just skimming the surface of their prime, ranked top 10 in Total Yards, Passing Yards and Rushing yards.

In San Fransisco things arent looking too hot as they havent even scored a point through their first 2 games of the season. Offensive weapons look deminished even with a young franchise QB in Nic Leonard leading this team, this offense is currently ranked last in nearly every aspect. Things get a bit brighter on the defense ranked towards the middle of the pack, there isnt anyting that stands out but their defense can keep them in this game if QB Nic Leonard can step up against the Cardinals this week. This match up looks like a blow out BUT I believe San Fransisco can shock the league making a statement by putting an end to Arizonas undefeated season. The key is great play calling mixing up formations to confuse the Cardinals stellar secondary, it will be tough but no impossible. Look for a shoot out between star Quarterback T.J. Wheeler (ARI) and Nic Leonard (SF).

Week 3 Impact Players:

Arizona Cardinals - QB T.J. Wheeler

San Fransisco 49ers - QB Nic Leonard

Prediction:

Cardinals 13 49ers 23

Week 2 Divisional Match Up Seattle Seahawks vs St. Louis Rams!

We got the Seattle Seahawks vs the St. Louis Rams! Both these teams are coming into this game 1-0, and they are a great match up. The Rams have an efficient offense ranking them in the top 10 in points (4th) Passing Yards (5th) and Total Yards (6th). St. Louis has a very explosive offense with speedy wideouts like Tayvon Austin and Tercel Burns, also with QB Aurel Powe leading this offense with the help of RB Todd Gurley pounding the rock. On the defensve side of they ball they are just average when it comes to stopping the pass ranked 19th in Defensive Passing Yardage. The defensive line is what makes this defense with DT Aaron Donald and RE Robert Quinn holding it down in the trenches who only gave up just 75 rushing yards last week. Despite going up against a struggling Tampa Bay team in week 1, this squad is a well rounded team that can come out with a win on any given sunday. Lets take a look at the Seattle Seahawks who are known for their stellar defense and the "Legion of Boom". The Seahawks got stars on every level of this defense in RE Cliff Avril, MLB Bobby Wagner, and CB Richard Sherman. So far they have only given up a total of 17 rushing yards which ranks them at the top of the league, it will be exciting to see this rush defense matched up against Rams RB Todd Gurley. Seattle relies on QB Russell Wilson to lead this offense down the field putting pressure on the opponents defense on every play. This offense is more of a west coast offense, ranking them in the middle of the league in Total Yardage. What will be key in this divisional match up will be in the trenches between the offensive line of the seahawks and the defensive line of the Rams. If Seattle can win the battle on the offensive side of the ball I dont think the Rams can come out with a win in week 2.

WK 2 Impact players:

Rams - FS Leron Hughes

Seahawks - QB Russell Wilson

Prediction:

Seahawks 24 Rams 21
