Coming into the Season 34, the 2014 season in the BFSL, Colts fans knew their roster was not elite. They knew two of their biggest stars in Reggie Wayne and Robert Mathis were in the twilight of their careers. However, there was hope with Andrew Luck at QB, Coach Baba and his reputation of getting the most out of average defenses and then there is the AFC South factor.
Indianapolis' loss to the Bengals at home in Week 7 was the teams 3rd straight loss and the Colts have failed to score more than 14 points in those losses. Luck, who got off to a good start, now has thrown for 21 INT's to go with his 11 TD. The teams poor defense failing to hold opposing offenses along with a horrid O line has contributed to team's struggles, and especially Luck.
Indianapolis now realizes just how bad things really are with their roster. The idea of trading Luck for multiple draft picks to help this team revamp its roster has been discussed. This might be the only way for Luck to continue his career with the abuse he has taken on the field and is starting to take from Colts fans. The team has been in discussions with at least two teams about trading LB/DE Robert Mathis for draft picks. Luck would certainly garner much more from suiters.
In the coming days and weeks, this franchise must decide what they want to do. Does it need a QB with the skills that Luck brings if the team has no chance of winning without a complete rebuild through the draft and FA? Coach Baba did realize that switching back to a 3-4 defense was better for this current roster on defense but it surely is not going to be enough. The offensive line has allowed 16 sacks between rookie G Mewhort and veteran T Cherilus.
Peyton Manning or Dwight Freeney are not walking through the door to save this team. A fire sale may be in order soon in order to get the draft picks needed to improve for years to come.
