The Seattle Struggle

The Seattle Struggle

With just four weeks left in the regualr season, the Seahawks sit at an abysmal 3-9. Last season the Seahawks had a solid campaign going 10-6 and a Wild Card bid; losing to the Saints on Wild Card Weekend. So lets brake things down; who is to blame for the Seahawks less than stellar season? Fans and some analyst are quick to blame Pete Carroll for the teams 3-9 record; however if were picking one person to Blame it would have to be Seahawks GM John Schneider and ownership for pushing the deals made in recent seasons. We have questioned the big trades made by the Seahawks the past two seasons uprooting a team that went to back to back super bowls.

Let's break it down:

SENT:

  • Russell Wilson - QB
  • Cliff Avril - DE
  • Marshawn Lynch - HB
  • Jordan Hill - DT
  • Marcus Burley - CB
  • Luke Wilson - TE
  • 2017 1st Round Pick
  • 2018 2nd Round Pick
?RECEIVED:
  • Jimmy Smith - CB
  • Ben Roethlisberger - CB
  • Le'Veon Bell - HB
  • Markus Wheaton - WR
  • Sam Bradford - QB
  • Jordan Matthews - WR
  • Connor Barwin - DE

There is a lot of talent coming in and coming out, but how it has been managed is the issue here. Most importantly is the quarterback position, the Seahawks gambled with the Russell Wilson trade with Pittsburgh, sending an established Quarterback away for a younger Running Back and an aged Veteran who would need to be replaced within a few years; which ended up being a lot sooner than most expected  when the Seahawks cut Big Ben to clear up cap space to make another move. A move in which Sam Bradford would be traded for the second time in his career, the former 1st overall pick was shipped to Seattle along with one of his Wide Outs Jordan Matthews and DE Connor Barwin; all three have had solid showings since coming to a winless team. But now the Seahawks have lost Sam Bradford and Earl Thomas for the season. The free fall to the basement of the league has been a quick and painful fall. With a poor record and no first round pick it's safe to say Seattle could be doomed; with a lot of high caliber players and not enough cap to go around we could see a lot more trades in the coming seasons to try and get value out of players instead of them marching into free agency.

We may have a doomsday additute now, but we're willing to weather the storm and see where this team gos, because we have no other choice. Until next time Seahawks fans and friends this has been the Seattle Struggle.

Hawks Preseason Round-Up.

SEAHAWKS NETWORK

The Seahawks made several roster changes this past week; most notably Rookie DE Frank Clark was announced as a starter for week one. Clark takes over for the recently traded Cliff Avril. Head Coach Pete Carroll praised his work ethic and ability to create pressure. We'll see if Clark can produce in this revamp defensive line. Recently released Wide Receiver Riley Cooper agreed to terms on a 1-Year deal with Seattle this past weekend. Cooper has picked up the offense in stride, Pete Carroll expects Cooper to be a solid role player and strengthen the depth of the receiving core. Undrafted Rookie Cody Fajardo has won the third string quarterback spot over recently released QB Anthony Boone. Carroll spoke on the matter saying he went with Fajardo's athleticism and consistency on the field thus far. The only position battle left that has given us interest is the backup running back spot; Veteran Fred Jackson seems to be the favorite, however youngsters Dom Brown and Trey Watts are locked in a battle for the third spot. We're hearing rumors the team may carry four half backs into the season opener in St. Louis. Mark Glowinski has officially earned the nod at starting Center from Pete Carroll, leaving the running back race as the only question mark on the roster. Glowinski is transitioning from Right Guard, although the transition isn't always easy for players, Glowinski has earned praise from Coach Carroll and company. Look out for our next issue where we’ll review the final 53 man roster and talk players to watch throughout the regular season.

Kansas City Press: Off-Season Issue #1

LOS Madden Season 3

Here we are again Chiefs fans, another year of the playoff drought. Head Coach/ GM Mark Helfrich has shown promise in the NFL thus far but the question of his potential success still remains. After a dreadful season just a year ago, Helfrich and Company put together a winning season and filled the Chiefs Kingdom with hope once again. A 9-7 season doesn’t seem so bad in the NFL but in today’s game teams who win 13 games end up battling it out in Wild Card Weekend. Now that we’ve stated the obvious; let’s break down the roster and see what could potentially put this team in the playoffs.

Chiefs Re-Signings:

HB-Knile Davis: 5-Year, 30 Million

TE-Travis Kelce: 6-Year, 35.9 Million

FS-Malcolm Jenkins: 4-Year, 18 Million

LT-Eric Fisher: 5-Year, 19 Million

OLB-Dion Jordan: 5-Year, 19 Million

NT-Bennie Logan: 4-Year, 14.6 Million

CB-Sanders Commings: 4-Year, 9 Million

WR-Keshawn Martin: 1-Year, 910k

The Chiefs bring back the most consistent cog in their offense with Knile Davis, missing little time in his time wearing a Chiefs uniform he’s racked up 4708 Yards and 47 Touchdowns in the past 3 seasons. Travis Kelce has been a big target for Taylor Pittman as well as a chain mover on third down situations, a valuable player who Blocks and makes big plays. Jenkins has been a leader since he stepped foot into the Chiefs facilities and has made plays on and off the field to better this team, and the Chiefs have rewarded him. Dion Jordan might not be a sack machine, but he produces a lot of pressure. There is no denying that he’s been a slow bloomer but Coach Pellum has been working with him since his days at Oregon. I think we’ll see a bump in those sack numbers from here on out. Eric Fisher was the number one overall-pick just 4 Years ago, and while he hasn’t been dominant, he’s been a part of a great rushing attack. Bennie Logan has been at run defense and even notches a few sacks a season. His chemistry with his teammates and his work ethic earned him this new deal. Sanders Commings has had an interesting ride here in KC. He was traded for someone who is no longer with the team and a draft pick. Then the Chiefs put together a deal to bring him back which sent Alshon Jeffrey to Indy. Commings failed to make any interceptions last season but he has all the tools to produce in the NFL, if the Chiefs can sign a big time Corner in free agency we might see some production form Commings. Lastly, special teamer and slot receiver Keshawn Martin. Acquired from the Jaguars for Orleans Mills shortly after Mills was drafted the Chiefs wanted a speedy playmaker and that’s what Martin is, as a receiver he’s a bit raw but he’s been great in special teams packages and that is why he’s back for a least one more year.

Free Agency:

Corner Back:

The Chiefs would benefit tremendously from the services of Cornerback Xavier Rhodes. However so could a lot of the teams in this league. If the Chiefs can’t land the big fish, we could see them settling on an older and much cheaper option.

Best Fit: Xavier Rhodes/Tramon Williams

Assuming the Chiefs can’t sign Rhodes; Williams could provide a defensive upgrade on the outside allowing Brandon Boykin to play the Nickle Corner.

Offensive Line:

The Chiefs don’t have a perfect offensive line, and that’s why we think Chance Warmack and the Kansas City Chiefs could interest each other quite a bit this free agency period. Warmack could easily win the starting job at Right Guard and improve the unit as a whole. A big mauler of a run blocker could improve an already stout rushing attack.

Best Fit: Chance Warmack/Kyle Long

We have Kyle Long selected here as well. His ties to Mark Helfrich at Oregon might be enough for the two sides to have interest in one another. Either way we see Helfrich taking care of this position for certain.

Wide Receiver:

Chief’s fans rejoiced last off-season when the team traded up to #2 overall to draft Shane Klein. Now with Klein finding his way in the NFL the Chiefs could use a solid slot receiver to pair inside of Klein and Matthews. Tavon Austin has the explosive ability that Helfrich looks for in his offense talent. If the two sides can come together on a contact agreement we might just get to see Pittman air it out a bit more next season. We think it’s safe to say a guy like OBJ is off limits for KC as the money would be better suited at other positions at this point.

Best Fit: Tavon Austin/ Da'Rick Rogers

Brining Rogers back might be in the Chiefs best interest, he was a very reliable option for Pittman last season. However we can see him leaving for a new gig after declining the Chiefs first offer earlier this year. Reports say several teams are interested, but we’ll wait and see.

We will update you all as we get the details on any signings, trades, or any other roster adjustments as they come here on the Kansas City Press. This is Chiefs Kingdom!

Chiefs Early 2016 Draft Grades

Los Chiefs 2016 NFL Draft Grades

KANSAS CITY PRESS

After a lackluster 5-11 Season the Chiefs brought Head Coach Mark Helfrich back for his third season. Helfrich has yet to bring a winning season to KC, but the Owners have shown patience after a roster gutting in 2014. The Chiefs sent away veteran talent to rack up 10 2016 draft picks; and then the morning of the draft Mark Helfrich made a call to Tennessee and made a deal to acquire the 2nd overall pick. Helfrich selected Nebraska Wide out Shane Klein; Klein had a tremendous sophomore season 121 Receptions, 1495 Yards, and 10 Touchdowns. The number two overall pick is exactly what the Chiefs have been missing from their offense; a solid number one at wide receiver. With the addition of Klein, the Chiefs get a boost on the offensive side of the ball which should take some of the pressure off the defense and give Sophomore Quarterback Taylor Pittman a big time target. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL, the folks here at the Kansas City Press have high hopes for Shane Klein.

ROUND 1, Pick 2

WR-Shane Klein, Nebraska

GRADE- A

Shane Klein brings a lot to the table for the Chiefs, decent size at 6’2’’ good speed, and great hands. I think the biggest question here does a run-heavy offense bode well for a Receiver who has been the go to guy at Nebraska for two seasons? There is no question Mark Helfrich loves to run the ball with Knile Davis; he’s put up 3346 Yards and 30 Touchdowns in his two seasons under Helfrich. Klein might be what makes KC’s offense a balanced attack; TE Travis Kelce lead the Chiefs in receptions and receiving yards, so the Chiefs haven’t had that number one guy since Alshon Jeffrey; who’s time in KC consisted of locker room issues with several quarterbacks and eventually Mark Helfrich as the Chiefs rushing attempts outweighed the passing attempts heavily. Bottom line the Chiefs get a number one receiver who can stretch the field and help an already dangerous rushing attack.

ROUND 2, Pick 8

DT- Gabriel Prater, Wisconsin

GRADE- D

This pick was a bit of a head scratcher for us; although Prater was a solid Defensive Tackle for Wisconsin in his three seasons, he never really separated himself from prospects in his class. Prater has the size but lacks the strength to make an impact against NFL Offensive Lineman. His technique is solid, and he showed that fundamentally he’s a solid player able to perform against college offensive lines. We had Prater pegged as late round pick, and to see him called in the second round and too our faithful Chiefs was disappointing.

ROUND 2, Pick 20

CB-Dominique Elliott, Mississippi St.

GRADE- C-

Dominique Elliot is a 20 Year Old corner whose coverage skills are raw, and with a six foot frame and his subpar speed would be better suited at safety. The 20 Year Old may not be a factor for some time in this league. We like his build but his speed makes us think he’s not going to get many opportunities to prove himself.

ROUND 4, Pick 8

DT- Frankie Robertson, LSU

GRADE- B-

Frankie Robertson a versatile defensive lineman out of LSU. We believe he’s more suited as a Five Technique in the Chiefs Defense, but with Don Pellum running a bit of a hybrid playbook this season he might be staying at defensive tackle for those play calls. The knocks on his game are his age and Football IQ, which goes hand in hand with younger players like himself. Robertson’s a solid pick at this point in the draft for the Chiefs who sent Cedric Thornton to Tennessee in a trade to acquire the 2nd overall pick. They drafted several Defensive linemen looking to fill the void left by Thronton and we think Robertson may be the closest thing to Thornton that the Chiefs got from this draft.

ROUND 4, Pick 20

CB- LaDarius George, Kent State

GRADE- C+

At 6’2’’ LaDarius George out of Kent State has the elite size you look for in a NFL cornerback. A great athlete with average coverage skills, a little teaching up and LG could be a solid player in the NFL.

ROUND 5, Pick 1

TE- Tray Binns, Oregon

GRADE- C

A former player under head coach Mark Helfrich at Oregon, Binns is a traditional Tight End with decent blocking ability. The only way we’ll see much out of Binns is an injury to Kelce or Clay, two great Tight Ends who see a good chunk of the snaps in the Chiefs’ offense.

ROUND 6, Pick 8

K- Javonti Farmer, Minnesota

GRADE- A

We love this pick; Farmer is just a great kicker. Simple as that, the Chiefs haven’t had a kicker who could knock down big kicks in Mark Helfrich’s campaign so far and they finally have that with Farmer.

ROUND 6, Pick 25

DE/OLB- B.J. Johns, Rhode Island

GRADE- B

A small school pass-rusher from Rhode Island, Johns went under the radar of most teams. Johns has all the tools to be an effective pass-rusher in either a 3-4 or 4-3 system. As we saw from his work out with Defensive Coordinator Don Pellum; well should expect to see Johns rushing standing up and in a 3-point stance. We excited to see Johns hit his potential in the NFL. The 4-Year captain at Rhode Island should make an impact for the Chiefs right away.

ROUND 7, Pick 2

OL- Theodore Sturdivant, Bowling Green St

GRADE- F

The Chiefs went for another small school player with their final draft selection. Sturdivant just doesn’t have the physical tools to play in the NFL; he stood out in college against subpar schools. We’re honestly surprise Sturdivant’s name was called in the draft; we expected to see him go as an undrafted free agent and eventually filter out of the league. An even more mind blowing idea is that Sturdivant will most likely find his way on to the Chiefs 53 man roster as they have a thin roster at this time. We don’t except him to make it very far in this league.

Chiefs Final Draft Grades.

KANSAS CITY PRESS

The Kansas City Chiefs took a step back in the 2015 season; finishing at 5-11 with a much more complete roster. Head Coach Mark Helfrich’s future with the team is in jeopardy, although we have not heard anything out of KC headquarters about the subject. Rumors are surrounding current Texas Head Coach Charlie Strong as a target for the Chiefs as their next head coach. Helfrich lead a dismantled and rebuilding team to an 8-8 season his first year as the Chiefs head coach, and followed it up with a new team with players he handpicked for his schemes and they only go 5-11. We’ve come up with a wish-list for our next head coach here in Kansas City. This list is based off of rumors from League Insiders.

1.     Charlie Strong, Texas

2.     Art Briles, Baylor

3.     David Shaw, Stanford

4.     Mark Dantonio, Michigan State

5.     Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M

6.     Chris Petersen, Washington

7.     Bob Stoops, Oklahoma

8.     Scott Shafer, Syracuse

9.     Les Miles, LSU

10.  Scott Frost, Chiefs OC

These candidates are listed as most likely to least likely. Charlie Strong is the front runner while Syracuse’s HC Scott Shafer is just 10-15 as a college head coach but has drawn interest from the Chiefs; Les Miles is rumored to be on his way out in LSU; however the likelihood of him accepting the Chiefs potential job is unlikely. The idea of hiring current Offensive Coordinator Scott Frost as the next head coach seems unusual; the same offense would be run, a similar defense, and less experience as head coach. He’s only on our list as one rumor suggests it’s a possibility, but I wouldn’t worry too much Chief’s fans.

Final 2015 Draft class Grades:

Round 1, Pick 17:

QB Taylor Pittman, LSU

Original Grade: C+

Final Grade: B

Taylor Pittman the duel threat QB out of LSU was a surprise selection for Chiefs fans who’s hearts were set on UCLA stud QB Donald Clayton who was selected seven picks earlier by the Eagles. Experts had several QB’s ranked higher than Pittman left on the board, none of which outperformed him. Pittman Ranked 4th of all Rookie Signal Callers. Pittman took strides towards the end of the year and with the off-season here he can only take strides to get better. A young athletic QB with a solid work ethic and Drive, were excited to see what he can accomplish as a Kansas City Chief.

Taylor Pittman 2015 Rookie Stats

208    339    61      2768  8.2     22      0        19      83.9

Round 1, Pick 19:

SS Casey Evans, Ohio State

Original Grade: B

Final Grade: A

Casey Evans was a coverage safety from Ohio State; the youngster came out at just 20 Years old after a stellar Freshman Campaign. With the secondary in shambles the Chiefs elected to take Evans with the 19th pick in the 1st round. Evans was well received and quickly became a fan favorite. After a strong Camp and Pre-Season performance Evans won the starting job alongside of Veteran Malcom Jenkins. Evans put up solid numbers and made big plays on defense and was a highlight of an abysmal 5-11 season.  Evans will be a long time star on defense and we’re thrilled to see him wearing our colors.

TAK Sack  FF   INT

 65       0      3        4

Round 1, Pick 27:

OT Archie George, Texas A&M

Original Grade: A

Final Grade: A

Archie George spent2 of his 4 years at Texas A&M playing both Left and Right tackle behind Luke Joeckel and Jake Matthews. George took the starting Left Tackle spot in stride and was a solid player in his final two seasons at the college level. When the Chiefs came up to pick at 27th overall in the first round they were very happy to see George still on the board, we knew once he laced up for the Chiefs it would be at Right Tackle, as team spent the number one overall selection on Left Tackle Eric Fisher two years prior. George did an excellent job on the Right side helping improve a young offensive line lead HB Knile Davis to another stellar season. George is a great talent and will start the rest of his career for the Chiefs.

Round 4, Pick 24:

CB Easton Caldwell, Arizona

Original Grade: B

Final Grade: D

Here at the Kansas City Press, we were thrilled to see UA’s number one cornerback selected here in the 4th round, an excellent athlete with a solid frame at 6’2” Caldwell seemed like the answer for a rebuilding secondary. Caldwell saw reps with the second team all throughout camp and pre-season, but hardly found the field in his rookie season. Don Pellum started Marcus Cooper on the outside over Caldwell and it paid off until the Chiefs managed to bring Sanders Commings back to Kansas City. Caldwell recorded just 15 Tackles and 1 pass deflection. We’re not saying Caldwell is a lost cause but the former UA corner did not live up to his storied career in Arizona.  Not every pick is a hit and Caldwell will work to prove himself in the NFL, although in the NFL you never truly know. We’re pulling for you Easton!

Thanks once again for reading the Kansas City Press! Look out for our Chiefs Draft Coverage after the 2016 Los Madden Draft. Here is to a great playoffs and another great season in the Los Madden League. Go Chiefs!

Chiefs move on from Alshon Jeffery and Sean Smith

Chiefs trade WR Alshon Jeffery, CB Sean Smith

  Kansas City Press

The Kansas City Chiefs are officially in re-build mode after a 0-4 start to the 2016 campaign. Just one of the players from the big trade with Chicago remains in Guard Matt Slausen, with both Matt Forte and Alshon Jeffery going to the Colts in two separate deals. The Chiefs pick up a 3rd and 6th round pick from the Colts as well as CB Sanders Commings who will be re-joining the team after being involved in a deal that sent TE Dwayne Allen to the team. The Jets will send a 2nd and 4th round pick for Sean Smith, both trades will give the Chiefs a boost in draft picks after they traded their 4rd round pick for a former pupil of Coach Mark Helfrich in Kenjon Barner. The Chiefs will have a 1st, 2nd(2), 3rd, 4th(2), 5th, 6th(2), and a 7th rounder. In total the Chiefs will have nine selections in this upcoming draft, in hopes to patch up any holes that may be on the roster come the draft. I don’t expect the Chiefs to make any more trades involving big name talent, however if they have an opportunity to bring in a few more picks they might.

Alshon Jeffery 2015 KC Receiving Stats:

                                Rec         Yds         Avg        Lng         TD

                                14           237         16.9        42           1

Mark Helfrich may be on the hot-seat but the team hasn’t made that news public. If the team can turn it around and finish close to 8-8 as they did last season then I’d assume Helfrich’s job is safe anything worse I’d imagine we’d have a new head coach here in Kansas City.

Chiefs Off-Season Review.

 Off-Season Review

The Kansas City Chiefs entered the 2015 NFL Draft with three first round picks. The Chiefs would pick at 17, 19, and 27. Taylor Pittman’s name would be called at pick 17; the crowd’s reaction was disappointment since The Philadelphia Eagles selected the Speedy UCLA QB Donald Clayton with the 10th pick. As Pittman’s LSU tape rolled the crowd seemed to ease into the next pick as Pittman shows potential at the position but as of now compares to former Florida State QB E.J. Manuel. Head Coach Mark Helfrich will be tested with his first development project at QB with Pittman; the team also went on to trade for Pittman’s former teammate at LSU WR Jarvis Landry. Two picks later the Chiefs would call a name in which the fans were a lot more in favor of; Strong Safety Casey Evans. Evans a coverage Safety playing the strong side has enough speed and athleticism to make plays at the next level. At 27 the Chiefs shored up the Right Tackle position with the Selection of former Left Tackle Archie George out of Texas A&M. A&M has pumped out a ton of solid Tackles in the past few years; George should keep the pace with excellent athleticism for the right side. A solid run blocker with great foot work should help the Chiefs and their running game. Overall we’d have to give the Chiefs a B+ for now, until we see Pittman’s production in the NFL and how the later rounds pan out for KC. We will be updating at the end of the season for a final grade.

Taylor Pittman LSU Career Passing Stats:

Cmp       Att          Pct          Yds         Avg        TD           Int

407         659         61.8        5783       8.8          35           15

The Chiefs also brought in Veteran Guard Shelley Smith in the deal that brought WR Jarvis Landry over from Miami. Smith has been given the starting role; Smith will most likely be replaced in Free Agency or the Draft as starting Right Guard. Depending how he fair this year we could see him stay on the team as a depth player. The Chiefs traded for one of the Helfrich’s former Ducks Kenjon Barner from Philadelphia. He is expected to be a spell back for Knile Davis. We’re looking forward to another season of Chiefs football. Look out for more from the Kansas City Press.

Jags Edge Broncos 31-28

Tre Mason continued to carry the Jags this weekend in a AFC Showdown in Denver. Rushing for 120 Yards and racking up 3 TD's, the Rookie runningback has established himself as one of the best in the league. All eyes will be on Mason and the Jags next week to see if they can do it again.

2015-04-19

Cowboys down Panthers 45-18

Tony Romo and the Cowboys were too much this weekend as they advance to the next round. Romo was 12/13 for 325 Yards and threw 4 Touchdowns in a near perfect performance, the MVP candidate has been on a tear and looks to continue his play into next week.

Chiefs finish 8-8 miss playoffs.

                                                   A SEASON IN REVIEW

                                                        Kansas City Press

With Wild Card Weekend in full swing, the Kansas City Chiefs are sitting at home watching. After some ups and downs the Chiefs finished 8-8 under Rookie Head Coach Mark Helfrich who made the jump from the College ranks from Oregon. Helfrich was displeased by the team not getting the job done at the end of the season and getting into the playoffs, although after a mid-season roster re-haul that left most of the league scratching their heads we are not surprised here at the Kansas City Press. The Chiefs made waves from the word go by sending long time running back Jamaal Charles to Chicago along with Dwayne Bowe and Tamba Hali for some key pieces to the team in Alshon Jeffrey, Matt Slausen, and Matt Forte. A trade in which we thought would be the loudest of the year for KC but the evening before the League’s trade deadline sent two Defensive Stars packing in exchange for Several Picks and some more key players; Fletcher Cox, Dion Jordan, Charles Clay, and Bennie Logan and Two First Round Picks were the prized pieces in the deal for KC. Rookie wide receiver Jordan Matthews who was swapped for CB Phillip Gaines with Philadelphia (also acquired OLB Justin Houston in a second deal) gave solid number two numbers in his debut season. Its clear Mark Helfrich is constructing HIS team rather than play with the one he inherited when he accepted the job offer, and he hasn’t wasted time either. The season could have ended differently for the Chiefs, several games ended within a one score deficit. As a team they have to be better at closing out games, something Helfrich has preached in post-game interviews.

Here at the Kansas City Press we’ve expressed our concern about the Quarterback situation here for the Chiefs. Matt Barkley took over in week 8 after Alex Smith was cut after a locker room incident. Barkley was signed to a 1-Year deal in the pre-season to compete for a back-up job with rookie QB Aaron Murray.

Matt Barkley 2014 Passing Stats:

Cmp       Att          Pct          Yds         Avg        TD           Sack       Int          Rate

                166         251         66           1920       7.6          11           0              9              87.4

Barkley showed signs of potential in several games, but lacked the arm strength/deep accuracy to utilize his weapons down field. We’ve been hearing that the Chiefs will look to re-sign Barkley this off-season to at least a 2-Year deal. Barkley has been serviceable, but his play at times cost the team. Sources are saying the Chiefs will likely draft a Quarterback, in what round is what has remained unknown to us.

The Chiefs young offensive line was upgraded when OG Matt Slausen was sent over from Chicago to join Center Rodney Hudson as veteran leaders for the group. LT Eric Fisher, the former number one overall pick step up his play with Slausen to his right. The group helped pave the way for running back Knile Davis’ 1659 yards and 16 TD’s. Knile Davis impressed in camp which ultimately lead to Jamaal Charles being a part of a trade. Helfrich praised Davis’ work ethic and drive along with his physical abilities. He’s become a fan favorite as well as a team star; we’re certainly excited to see what he accomplishes in Chiefs Kingdom. Keep an eye out for an off-season edition of the Kansas City Press in the LOSMadden League.

Chiefs and Bears make Blockbuster deal.

After late night negotiations between Logan Scott and Mark Helfrich the two came to agreement that will shift the dynamic of both teams. Helfrich wasn’t quite done making moves after shipping away De'Anthony Thomas to the Colts for a second round pick, and acquiring WR Jordan Matthews from Philadelphia in exchange for CB Phillip Gaines. The Chiefs will be sending HB Jamaal Charles, WR Dwayne Bowe, and OLB Tamba Hali in exchange for HB Matt Forte, WR Alshon Jeffery, and OL Matt Slauson. Both teams fill some voids on their roster. Helfrich was excited to add some pieces for his offense. “I have nothing but respect for Charles, Bowe, and Hali and we as an organization wish them nothing but the best in Chicago.” Helfrich spoke on the phone with us as the deal broke. Jeffrey adds a big piece to a now very serviceable receiving core for Alex Smith. We assume youngster Knile Davis will earn the starting spot over veteran Matt Forte, who will play into passing downs presumably. Alshon will take over as the number one Receiver.  Slauson will slide right into a starting role on the left side.

Chiefs strike deal with Eagles.

Mark Helfrich has made his first move as GM/Coach in Kansas City. The Chiefs have traded away Cornerback Phillip Gaines for Eagles Wide Receiver Jordan Matthews. Helfrich felt liked he needed to bolster the offensive weapons for QB Alex Smith. Matthews just 22 years old adds a long term option for the Chiefs at Receiver with Dwayne Bowe at age 29 and an expiring contract. We will continue update you as the Chiefs season advances.

Kansas City Press

Former Oregon Head Coach Mark Helfrich has accepted the job as Head Coach in KC.
The offensive minded coach inherits a project  on that side of the ball.
The rookie head coach steps in with total control of  team management  and roster moves.
Helfrich spoke today after the team announced the hiring; "I'm very excited to be a part of this franchise, we have a solid core group of guys and I'm excited to start working towards the ultimate goal of once day raising the Lombardi Trophy." Coach Helfrich brings his fellow Oregon coaches Don Pellum and Scott Frost to be the Offensive and Defensive Coordinators. Helfrich will be expected to win in KC, but ownership has expressed this move is a long term commitment to better the franchise.  Stay tuned for future updates of the Kansas City Chiefs in the LosMadden League.
