After starting the season with a less than stellar 1-5 record, the Bucs have found themselves in the playoffs with a 11-5 record and a NFC South title. Coach Flaxon-Waxon took over the team this offseason and immediately made sweeping changes to the roster, including trading away the teams unquestioned leader and best player Gerald McCoy. Those trades did bring in some vital prices to the teams success this year, including record breaking RB Dri Archer, team INT leader Andre Hal, team sack leader Jadeveon Clowney, and starting center Barret Jones.
Plenty of people have been critical of the teams play calling this year, criticizing the amount of yards that Archer got outside of the tackles. The team did their best to silence those critics in their week 17 game with archer on the bench and Matt Jones, another player acquired in a offseason trade, starting at RB. Jones promptly carved up the Panthers defense to a tune of 200+ yards in the Bucs W.
Rookie QB Jameis Winston has also had a quietly productive season under center for the team, despite being a product of FSU, where the term university is used very loosely. Winston teamed up with 1,000 yard TE Austin Sefarian Jenkins and red zone threat Mike Evans to finish the year with 38 passing TD's despite also sitting out the season finale in Carolina.
Expectations are high in Tampa heading into the postseason. The teams management never made it out of the second round of the playoffs in their previous tenure in Chicago, and they hope to have better success this year and in the future while in Tampa.
The Chicago Bears are looking at uncharted territory at this point in their season. After last weeks loss to the Carolina Panthers, where K Robbie Gould miss 2 makeable FG's, they sit at 4-3 with a very real possibility of missing out on their annual loss in the first round of the playoffs. Recent moves that added more strength to their already potent running game netted the Bears RT DJ Fluker and RB Le'veon Bell, but cost them their most talented offensive threat in WR Alshon Jeffey. Bell sees himself and Carlos Hyde teaming up with QB Colin Kapernick to form a 3 headed running monster that will lead them into the playoffs. Bell said, "I really enjoyed my time in Tennessee even though it was more of a pass first offense but I sure am glad to get out of Tampa. Hell, that crackpot coach was talking about starting Josh Freeman soon. But I think Ive found a home here in the run heavy offense that we have in Chicago."
The Bears will also need their near bottom ranked defense to step it up if they want a playoff spot. They added RE Jerry Attaochu in the Jeffrey trade to help out on the line and to push starter Dion Jordan at the ROLB position. " Ive been a lineman my whole career but im willing to try out the OLB position. We run a aggressive 3-4 in Chicago where the OLB's are rushing most of the time but I will have to put some work into my coverage abilities.
The clock is ticking on the Bears season and the next few games vs the Falcons, Saints, Packers and Lions will either make or break the Bears season.
