Rumors about off the field issues with RG3, passive agressive interviews, and finally a fist fight with Patrick Peterson during a practice that was open to the press. The Lions organization has been quiet over the drama surrounding Josh Gordon, but on Friday the team has officially moved on.
The Lion's move to acquire Rob Gronkowski is seen by many to be the latest in a series of moves symbolizing a major change in offense philosphy. Last year, RG3 and Gordon led one of the best passing attacks in the league, Gordon ending as the second leading reciever and RG3 recieiving numerous awards for his performance. Over the first 4 games of this season, however, they have been one of the worst.
You won't find a sad face in Detroit, however, as they have had massive success on the ground, and the defense has been performing arguably even better than last year, where it was ranked #1 in most catogories.
"We are always open to trades that we feel improve our team, this is one of those circumstances."
Teddy Montgomery has been turning heads ever since flying in to Detroit this year. After accumulating 12 sacks this season, most teams would worry a 20 year old rookie might develop ego problems that would hurt them in the long run. "It's hard to have an ego when you're playing next to the best line in football" he said to reporters Tuesday, "Every sack I got, (Ndamakong) Suh, Ziggy(Ezekiel Ansah), or big Nick (Fairley) were right there by the time I got up. Good, now get another one, they'd say".
He continued to be modest through the entire season, attributing his teammates to his humbled approach "Yeah, I had a good game, but every time I have a good game someone else on this line has a better one. It's kind of hard to get an ego when you're not even the best on your line."
The Lions d-line has accumulated 50 sacks on the year, and the Lions will need to rely on them if they hope to go far in the stacked NFC playoffs this year.
