The Return

A sit down interview with new Bills coach Kieran Price, his hopes for the future of the team, the Bills playoff chances and his MSFL Legacy

Interviewer: Thankyou for agreeing to meet with me today, after a long time away you have returned to MSFL, how do you feel about returning to the league and your new job as Head Coach of the Buffalo Bills?

Kieran Price: Im glad to be back, its been a long time but im ready to get back to work the team is looking strong and hopefully under new leadership we can make the playoffs this season.

Interviewer: Having started the season 4-6 is it fair to say its a long shot that this team can make the playoffs?

Kieran Price: Its a fair question but i have faith in this team, i see them everyday in practice and they are hungry. Results may not have gone our way to start the season but this team has it in them and i strongly believe we can run the table, after our last game against the broncos we are only a half game back on the dolphins for the division lead, its not out of the question that we can turn this season around.

Interviewer: What do you say to those people that say that such a reliance on Lesean Mccoy, which was evident in your aginst the Broncos, will tire him out by the time the playoffs come were you to get there and that this team cannot win on the back of josh allen's arm?

Kieran Price: We are taking things one game at a time. Shady gives us our best chance to win games and right now we just have to win games, ill worry about the playoffs when the time comes but right now winning games is a priority.

Interviewer: And Josh Allen?

Kieran Price: Josh Allen is a fine QB! anyone that thinks to the contrary just has to put on the tape of the last game, Josh had a 158.3 passer rating, thats as good as it gets, i have no worries at QB and if the time comes where josh has to win games on the talent of his arm alone im sure he will get the job done.

Interviewer: you really have a lot of faith in your team? would you consider it a positive to have such faith in a team that is below .500 and has only really shwon up for 1 game against a team that was previously 1-9?

Kieran Price: Of course its a positive, as i said before i see these guys in practice i know what they are made of and im certain results will go our way moving forward.

Interviewer: One final question. As the MSFL's most successful coach in terms of superbowl wins do you feel a great pressure to succeed considering alot is expected of you?

Kieran Price: That was a long time ago, times have changed and moved on since then, im just trying to manage this team the best i can and put us in position to win football games.

Interviewer: Thankyou for your time.

Kieran Price: No problem.

End Of Season Division Review: AFC West

Welcome to a division by division look at every teams regular season performance this past season, including some big contributors that weren't necessarily expected but had a big impact on the team.

Chiefs 10-6

A good season for the chiefs to finish 10-6 and clinch the AFC West was underlined by the team being in the top half in almost every major statistical category, one area the Chiefs will be turnovers and forcing turnover, being in the bottom 10 in turnover differential with a -10 in this category primarily due to Alex smith throwing a 2nd worst in the league 38 interceptions. The Chiefs started fast flying out to a 6-1 record but then only played .500 ball down the stretch which may a cause for concern.

Under the radar star: Joe Hawley

Hawley had a brilliant season on a general poor pass blocking Chiefs unit only giving up 1 sack all season, which cannot be said of his teammates, primarily LT Donald Stephenson who gave up an incredible 16 sacks. Hawley was also strong in the run game pancaking 4 opponents on the season.

Broncos 8-8

After a poor start to the season the Broncos played their best games in December finishing the season with 4 wins from their final 5 games. The epitome of an 8-8 team the Broncos finished dead on mid pack in almost every statistical category, however the feared Broncos pass rush failed to turn up this season ranking in the bottom 10 in sacks on the season. With the likelihood of legendary quarterback Peyton Manning retiring in the off season the Broncos defense will be relied upon more next season and the pass rush must be stronger for the Broncos to play like they did in the final games of the season and not the first games of the season.

Under the radar star: Bradley Roby

Bradley Roby had a memorable season as seemingly making the leap to becoming a premier slot corner in the league. Used in a similar way to how Charles Woodson was used in Green Bay during their Super Bowl run, Roby had 72 tackles 4 for a loss with 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles and 5 interceptions. With Roby producing like that then Broncos surely have the deepest Secondary in the entire league.

Chargers 7-9

The Chargers finished the season with a 7-9 record but most of the failings can be placed squarely at the door of the offense. The Chargers struggled immensely on offense being in the bottom 10 for scoring offense, they were able to move the football but seemingly couldn't come away with points as often as they should have, the rush offense being a particular area of disappointment with only 1000 yards for the entire team on the season. Some positives for the Chargers was that the defense was surprisingly good and very close to being a top 10 unit, with the Chargers looking to move picks for offensive playmakers to try and make a championship run next season they are definitely a team to watch in the AFC.

Under the radar star: Jermaine Kearse

Brought to the Chargers in a mid season trade with the Seattle Seahawks, that netted then Kam Chancellor in the deal as well, Kearse had a fantastic season. Kearse finished the year hauling in 70 passes for 1,373 yards and 12 TDs on the season, going some way to replacing the production lost from the departing Keenan Allen, who left in the trade that brought Kearse to San Diego.

Raiders 5-11

The Raiders season wasn't as bad as their record suggests, struggling in close games 6 losses that were decided by 8 points or less and going 4-6 in games that were decided by less than 8 points their record could have been a lot better had they just a few more of the many close games they had. The main reason for them being in so many close games was that they had the 4th worst ranked defense in the league (and the worst passing defense) and forced very few turnovers, coupled with a mid pack offense that turned the ball over 36 times. The Raiders also struggled to keep long drives going with a 3rd down percentage of less than 40% which was in the bottom 10. Encouragingly for the raiders though was the play of the receiving corps with the top 3 recievers on the team all catching at least 40 balls and at least 700 yards despite disappointing play from QB Derek Carr in his sophomore season.

Under the radar star: Justin Ellis

3rd year player Justin Ellis performed brilliantly for the raiders against the run with 10 tackles for a loss, the raiders rushing defence wasn't amazing but if it wasn't for Ellis it could have potentially been worse. Ellis also finished with 3 sacks on the season and a forced fumble, which is solid production for the DT. However with opponents taking to the air so much against the raiders Ellis should be looking to increase his sack total for next season if they are to have any chance of stopping teams airing the ball out against them.

End Of Season Division Review: NFC West

Welcome to a division by division look at every teams regular season performance this past season, including some big contributors that weren't necessarily expected but had a big impact on the team.

Seahawks 14-2

A bad start for the Seahawks saw them fall to 0-2 before reeling off 14 straight wins, including a big win against the Rams in the penultimate game of the season to win them the division and enter the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the league, the Seahawks had the best defence in the league and a top 5 offense to go with it to make the Seahawks a Legitimate Powerhouse.

Under the radar Star: Jaiquawn Jarrett

Replacing the now departed Kam Chancellor is no easy task but Jarrett has filled in nicely with 70 tackles 4 for a loss, 6 interceptions and a forced fumble. Jarrett's contribution in keeping the famous Legion of Boom as one of the best defenses against pass cant be overlooked, having a statistically better season than some of his more illustrious teammates, including All pro safety Earl Thomas.

Rams 14-2

With the number 1 offense behind a strong running game the Rams were hard to stop during the season, despite a 14-2 record the Rams were only able to clinch a wildcard spot due to the strength of the Seahawks and a late season loss to them in a pivotal game, the Rams will be looking to improve a passing attack  that ranked 6th worst in the league but did have multiple big plays. The Rams however did struggle to move the ball through the air on a consistent basis.

Under the radar star: Brian Hartsock

Often overlooked in the Rams offense is backup Tight end Brian Hartsock, providing excellent run blocking for Gurley and Mason, Hartsock was a Key cog in the league leading rushing attack. Hartsock will be entering his age 36 season next year and should he retire it will be interesting to see what impact that has on the Rams running game

Cardinals 5-11

The cardinals had a season to forget finishing 5-11. Quarterback play was the primary reason behind the Cardinals struggles finishing the season 31st in turnover differential and giveaways, with some aging stars on offense a major rebuild will likely be coming this off season for the cardinals, they will hope to compete much better next season in what is the hardest division in the league.

Under the radar star: Deone Bucannon

Bucannon may not show up in the stats sheet as having had as good a season as teammate darryl Washington, but Bucannons contribution can't be ignored providing the cardinals with another talented player in a strong secondary that already boasts Matthieu and Patrick Peterson. Bucannon finished with 55 tackles 4 for a loss and 4 interceptions.

49ers 4-12

A terrible years for the 49ers culminated in a 4-12 record and a big step down from the heights of recent years. In the same vein as the cardinals the root of the problems for the 49ers was terrible Qb play with Colin Kapernick having one of the worst Passer ratings among starters in the entire league, this will be an issue that needs to be fixed in Santa Clara in the offseason for the 49ers to compete in a brutal division, but they do have some young stars that will be looking to make the leap on defense next season.

Under the radar star: Eric Reid

Eric Reid had a brilliant season on a struggling 49ers team with 8 interception, 2 returned for touchdowns and also totalling over 100 tackles. One of the lone bright spots for a 49ers defense that was 5th worst in scoring defense, the 49ers will be hoping to give Reid some help back there next season and that he keeps up his strong play.
