NEW YORK GIANTS FIND THEIR MAN

The New York Football Giants sign Free Agent QB Manny Hernandez to a 4 year, $40.4 million deal.
Hernandez also received interest from the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers before deciding to join the Giants.
After QB Eli Manning announced his retirement at the end of last season, the Giants were looking to find a new QB to lead the team moving forward. New York found that in Hernandez.
Hernandez was drafted out of the University of Michigan by the Seattle Seahawks in 2017. Hernandez won a Superbowl last year as a backup to All-Pro Russell Wilson. Hernandez is expected to start for New York, which was a determining factor in him signing with the team. He most likely would have been a backup had he joined either the Bengals or Steelers.
The Giants have a solid team which includes WR Odell Beckham Jr, SS Landon Collins, and LT Joe Thomas.
The Giants look for Manny Hernandez to help them improve on their 9-7 season last year when they lost in the Wildcard Round to NFC East winning Dallas Cowboys.

Detroit Lions Maul Washington Redskins

In a game that got out of hand quickly, Detroit Lions backup QB Mason Gutierrez proved that he can be a starter in this league. Gutierrez finished the game going 13/17 for 314 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions; while also earning Player of the Game honors. Calvin Johnson also shined catching 5 passes for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns. The NFC Halfback of the Year, Artis Starks also contributed 20 carries for 100 yards and 6 catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. The Detroit defense added to this all-around dominating performance, holding the Redskins offense to under 200 total yards. DT Nick Fairley, the league leader in sacks this season, recorded two in this game and 'Skins QB Robert Griffen III was sacked a total of 6 times. The Detrout Lions must now await the winner of the Buccaneers/Seahawks game. Detroit won in Tampa Bay in week 3, 37-17 but one of their two losses this season was in Seattle in week 5, 27-23.

Lions Banged Up Heading Into Postseason

With a 14-2 record, the Detroit Lions have won the NFC North and secured a first round bye in the playoffs. However it has come at a cost, four players are on the injury report. The most detrimental loss for the Lions is QB Matthew Stafford who will be out for the next 5 weeks after suffering a broken thumb in the first half of Detroit's week 17 win at Green Bay. QB Mason Gutierrez will take over and try to lead Detroit deep into the playoffs until Stafford can return. Gutierrez only has 4 career starts, and his next will be his most important...the Divisional Round in the 2017 Playoffs.

Detroit Lions And Reggie Bush End Contact Talks

Reports have surfaced out of Detroit that the Lions have cut off contact talks with RB Reggie Bush. With franchise RB Artis Starks and the emergence of young RBs Denard Robinson and Andrew Hale there's no room on the roster for an aging star, who some say has last a step. One executive from a rival team was even quoted as saying, "[Bush] is slow as dirt." Prior to practice today Bush was asked about his future with the team... "My goal coming to Detroit 4 years ago was to help this team win a championship; I feel this year is our best chance of that. My focus is doing whatever I'm asked to help my team get to the Super Bowl, I'll worry about my future after this season." A very diplomatic response from the veteran player. This offseason Bush will have to figure out if he wants to test free agency again or hang up his cleats and retire, the results of the Detroit Lions season may way heavily into that decision.
