2017 Mid Season Review

HO HO HO Elite! It's that time of the year for our 2017 mid season review! Oh and Christmas too! Mayo has been busy moving so a podcast was tough to schedule.  Your commissioner is taking the liberty to write up a few categories to review the unfolding events of this unique season thus far.  Below will be a few categories and selections of what teams and coaches are being noticed, both good and bad.  So sit back, relax, drink some egg nog, eat some cookies and enjoy this review!

TOP TEAM: Hands down, this has to go to the lone undefeated team in Indianapolis.  Went from missing the play offs the previous season to being the team to beat this year.  Their star QB Luck has been terrific, throwing for nearly 3,000 yards and we are only halfway through!  Lucks go to target is top WR Antonio Brown, who's accumulated 1339 receiving yards and a whopping 15 TDs so far.  A few tough games left for these guys including a hungry Texans team, Cardinals, and those pesky Rams.  Everything is in line for a favorable and perfect season as the colts strength of schedule is one of the weakest.  But will this hurt the team in the play offs?  Stay tuned....

BOTTOM TEAM(S):  Well this one isn't tough to figure out.  There are five teams with currently with 1 win or less.  But 2 teams stand out to me most: Bengals and Seahawks.  Bengals have won one game this season, but the thing that stands out to me is the questionable coaching staff and that pitiful offensive production.  Bengals currently have a dreaded 73 points for and a whopping 247 points against yikes!  Bengals coach is definitely on the hot heat, having neglected his team almost every game and doesn't show much urgency to get his squad better.  With a record 5 vacations during the season and counting, how much more can the league and specifically the team take? It may be time to find a new head man soon.  As for the struggling Seahawks, their coach shows passion and fire, but can't seem to find his groove.  With a poor 78 points for and an even worse 288 points against, something needs to change.  Maybe coach needs to keep the game plan simple and use the Seahawks how they are suppose to be: a run heavy offense!  Wilson continues to lead the league in interceptions with a shocking 31 and counting!  Maybe Wilson needs to transfer to another team, like the Rams or something....

BIGGEST SURPRISE TEAM:  Gonna give this to the Saints.  A team that on paper is as old as a dinosaur, but currently show a very impressive record of 7-1.  Seems that the coach is finding his groove with his up and coming star QB Ryan Tannehill.  Saints have earned every win up to this point including an impressive one over previous season NFC runner up Rams. The only blemish is to current reigning SB champion Vikings.  The team needs to rely on backup QB Andy Dalton for a few weeks as Tannehill recovers from injury.  If the Saints can continue to roll, just how far can this team make it in the end?  Can their coach finally get over the NFC divisional round and punch their way to the NFC Championship or better yet, the SuperBowl?

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT TEAM:  Time to put my team on blast.  The Saint Louis Rams have been very average at best.  With a well built team coming in at 90 overall and producing a current record of 4-4, it has to be considered a down season thus far.  Rams have lost the SB in season one, and lost the NFC Championship season two, seems every season they are regressing just a little. Could this be a sign to worry? I don't think so.  After all, the Rams are breaking in rookie QB Tres Newman from Hawaii.  Started off the season with the rookie jitters, but seems to have found a bolt of confidence within the past few weeks.  Seems the struggling Rams will need to win out to have a shot to reappear in the NFC play offs and continue their impressive streak.  Maybe the bye week will give the team some time to find themselves and get back on track.  Let's hope league let's hope....

MOST UNDERRATED TEAM:  The Redskins have been a team to watch out for.  Coming in at #4 in our weekly power rankings, this coach and team has certainly been silent and deadly, currently holding a 7-2 record.  QB sensation Devin Cooper has been terrific all season, passing for 2376 yards and 23 TDs.  The team will still have to prove themselves in the next few weeks having to play their rival Eagles squad two times.  If the skins can somehow survive their tough division and punch their way into the play offs, they could find themselves holding the Lombardi trophy at the end of the road in the near future.

MOST OVERRATED TEAM:  This was a tough choice, but gonna give this to the Jets.  A team last year who made a ton of moves and had all the momentum and talent in the world to seize the Lombardi trophy, and....ended up losing in the AFC Championship.  The biggest question right now is can they win the big one?  Impressive record, stats, rankings, but what good is it if no SB rings are produced?  Sitting at #5 on the weekly power rankings and with a record of 6-2, they certainly can prove the league and this post wrong by shutting up the haters and producing some gold.  On the flip side what if they don't produce again?....

SEASON FUN FACTS:

- Niners led the NFC West with a 4-0 record.  Now they are 4-4 and Kap now almost leads the league in interceptions (watch out Wilson he's coming for the record!)

-Falcons are 5-2.  Yup next....

-Chargers has been accused of running the same formation and 3 plays a record 5x this season

-Bucs coach hasn't filed a complaint once this season (Elite record)

-Cowboys promised to win a ring since the birth of the lg.  Still waiting....

-Browns are leading that abysmal AFC North with a 3-4 record

-Bills coach has already quadrupled his wins from last season (now 4-3)

-Eagles coach has not burned down any houses or wished death as of late

-Cowboys coach nearly missed his teams game due to a "sore" thumb

-Any player on the Vikings roster is a god and the best at any position
