Welcome to the often imitated never duplicated, world renowned Coach's Corner.
Heading into the 2021 season there are many questions, and many thoughtful, PR related answers. In this segment we will skip the sweet shit and get to the point. I recently conducted a few Q and A meetings with some of the owners in the league here is what followed....
Denver Broncos (Owner Lemieux)
1. Q: You made some big offseason trades, does this mean the Broncos are all in for an AFC West Championship?
A: Yes, we are all in to win the West. Improving the offensive and defensive was our focus in the offseason.
2. Q: What do you expect from your rookie Safety this year?
A: We expect him to play right away and develop into a great player.
3. Q: You have a starter in QB Logan Thomas, but also signed Brett Hundley in FA. Who has the edge or who will start next season at QB?
A: Brett Hundley will be our starting QB going into the season.
Eagles (Owner Hustla)
1. Q: What was your biggest concern coming into the offseason?
A: This year money is getting tight and I have my WR core aging. Nelson, Jordan, and Ertz....... Problem is I’m such a fan of those guys, I don't think I’ll replace them which mean I will have regressed players with starter salaries.
2. Q: Who are you expecting to make a jump and become a household name for you team this season?
A: We plan on running the ball a lot more this year to counter all of the QTR formations that my offense will see. Nealy, a FS that's working his way up the depth chart and HB Mack are poised to makes big splashes this season. Mack wasn't used as much last year, but we plan on getting him 10-15 touches per game.
3. Q: With all the success you had last season, what can the Eagles build upon this year?
A: It's hard to start another year after your team went 16-0, but this year we play the NFC South which is a tough division, so if we get out of there 4-0, and win the SB, we know we'll have the complete roster.
Bucs (Owner Pride)
1. With 2 solid WR and backfield, what will your offense rely on to move the ball?
A. Well our offense will rely on Winston with a balanced passing attack and will also involve a steady run game. We have a few key pieces that we will rely on. WR Lumpkin and HB Hayes will contribute to our balanced attack. We have a rookie we drafted in the 1st rd at 28 to replace Coleman, a speedster who contributed to our late season run last yr. We will look to develop his skills this season as he will get much needed PT.
2. Who do you think will step up and becomes the leader of your D?
A: Dyron Riley is our Defensive leader, but we will look for our rookie CB Tyronne Griffin who we desperately needed to build our weak secondary. He's one of the best overall CB's left after the 2 top CB's were taken early in the 1st rd. Griffin has the skills to contribute early.
3. Do you still have any positions of need after the draft?
A: Of course we still have holes on our team. Every team has a weakness and are not strong in all areas. I believe that the scheme and the right players to make the chips fall in the right place to win a ring. We will look to build up our secondary and D Line and hopefully acquire a few skill pieces in the process.
Cowboys (Owner Mook)
1. With rumors of Manziel partying all offseason are you worried about his focus coming into the season?
A. We are always worried about Johnny and all the partying he does, that time and effort can be spent in the weight room and keeping his body healthy. He's missed the 1st round of the playoffs in each of the last 3 seasons, and that is a big problem.
2. What was your biggest concern headed into the draft, and did you address the issue?
A. Our biggest concern headed into the draft were at WR and FS position. We brought in Tavon Austin to help with the hole at WR. He's a veteran and has been eager to get over the hump with the Rams, he now has the chance to do so with the 4X NFC Championship Cowboys
3. What does the 2021 season hold for the Cowboys?
A: It's SB or bust in Dallas, we know and our fans know that our window is closing especially with the Eagles. Teams are getting better and our Vets aren't getting any younger. The time for greatness and to finally cash in on another SB is NOW!!!!!!
Jets (Owner Archer)
1. What were you needs heading into the Draft?
A. We were needing CB's. We have starters but were building depth. We were also looking for a solid #2 WR to start beside Miles. Our starters are set and we drafted a WR in the 1st and a SS development Safety. All in position to help.
2. What are you expecting from your rookies this yr?
A. I'm not expecting much from the rookies, with the exception of my rookie WR, they normally won't start right away, and until they get developed they will have reduced roles on the team.
3. With Carlo Miles as your go to guy, what are you expecting from him this season?
A. Always expect the most out of your best player. He's un-guardable and only a few top tier teams barely know how to handle him at all. I'm expecting another season near 2,000 yards, 20 TD, and a 25 ypc avg.
Ravens (Owner Superstar)
1. You had 2 QB's that put up numbers last season, is there a clear cut starter this year?
A. After emerging as an efficient playmaker last season after Barnett went down, Carpenter (110.9 QBR 31 TD 14 INT) is absolutely our starter going into the season. Coach (Ed) Reed knew that the young QB had elite arm strength, but his decision making and poise is what really caught the Reed's attention.
2. Rumors are that Gio is pissed about being on the trading block again last season.
A. No animosity going into camp as Gio is adamant that the coaching staff and the RB are on the same page. Gio felt that he was being overused at times during the season and was wanting to lighten his work load to extend his career. He's been a team player throughout his time in Baltimore, and was the first to welcome running mate Angel Roland. Both runners should be in line for a time share in the backfield this season.
3. With 2 new owners in your division, do you see anything different than raising another AFC North trophy?
A. Sure, definitely going to be a much tougher task. We addressed our depleted D-Line and feel that we can compete with anyone, and we're looking forward to the challenge. The AFC North has become the hardest division in the entire league. With the Browns offense and the addition of the Datdude in Cincy and NWO in Pitt, it's going to be a 4 team dog fight all season.
