They say defense wins championships. 4 of the top 5 defenses in the league are hoping that is true for them.
5. Oakland Raiders (14-2)
The Raiders come in with the 4th best rushing defense and a lowly 27th ranked passing defense. This team has been solid all year and they are led by two players, OLB Khalil Mack and SS Karl Joseph. All-Star LB Khalil Mack took down opposing QBs 28 times and even scored off a fumble. The heart and soul of the defense, the LB is hoping to continue dominating O-lines. Safety Karl Joseph was in a contract year, and he has definitely earned his extension. Picking off QBs 8 times this season and scoring once, Joseph has been playing the best football of his career. This defense is hoping they can continue to produce in the postseason, and with a young core, they look good going forward.
4. Buffalo Bills (2-13)
A surprise at number 4, the Bills have the 2nd best passing defense and the 27th best rushing defense. CB Tre-Davious White has 5 picks this year and DE Shaq Lawson has 10 sacks. This team has some key players in important positions and can definitely improve next season. If the offense can figure themselves out, the Bills can make huge improvements next year.
3. Los Angeles Chargers (13-3)
Always a favorite to win it all, the Chargers come in at third with the 19th and 5th ranked passing and rushing defense. The Bolts rely on DE Joey Bosa to get pressure and with 20 sacks, he's doing his part. Young MLB Riley Crick has taken the league by storm, and is 2nd on his team for tackles, along with 5 sacks and 6 INTs. He is the leader of the defense in only his first year as a Charger. This defense has the look of a championship team, and will look to terrorize AFC offenses this postseason.
2. New England Patriots (12-3)
Historically known for their offense, this Patriots team has shut down teams with their 3rd ranked passing defense and 9th ranked rushing defense. They are a well-rounded team and even though every member of the defense seems to eat, one standout player is CB Stephon Gilmore. Gilmore's 7 INTs have scared off opposing QBs, and helps his defense shutdown half the field. On the other side, CB Malcolm Butler has picked off QBs 5 times. Offensive Coordinators stay up at night thinking about this defense, and New England fans love it. This team has all the right tools to bring home another title.
1. Atlanta Falcons (15-0)
If defense wins championships, give these Falcons a Lombardi immediately. Ranked 1st in points allowed, 1st in yards allowed, 1st in passing yards allowed, and 2nd in rushing yards allowed, this team is the definition of shut down. Atlanta's defense is one of the best in the history of the NFL, DE Vic Beasely has made sure of that with a record 35 sacks. FS Ricardo Allen is not to be outdone, he has 11 picks this season, largely due to Atlanta's pass rush. This defense allows the offense to take a lot of chances, and if the offense can put points on the board this defense will make sure that lead grows and grows. This is the team to beat, will anybody be up to the challenge?
Another regular season is in the books for PM 18! I will be looking at the top 5 offenses in the league this season.
5. New Orleans Saints (3-12)
The Saints were on auto for the last few games so this helped their offense. Right now they have the number one passing offense and the 31st rushing offense. This probably comes from playing from behind. QB Drew Brees has 4594 yards with 28 TDs, 20 INTs. HBs Alvin Kamara and Khyri Richardson combined for 705 yards and 8 scores. The Saints also had two 1000 yards receviers. James Bromwell has 65 receptions for 1192 yards and 7 scores, while Sammy Watkins had 78 catches 1147 yards and 10 TDs. This team will most likely draft a QB this summer as most are speculating Brees will retire. Whoever is under center next season is inheriting an impressive offense.
4. Oakland Raiders (14-2)
Oakland is one of the most exciting teams in the league and that is due in large part to their offense. With the 6th best passing offense and 8th best rushing offense, they are very well rounded. The Raiders sent away starters Robert Woods and Jeremy Hill in favor of Jamison Crowder and Tevin Coleman. This was a decision that has paid off as Coleman is a leading MVP candidate. QB Derek Carr had a great season throwing for 3938 yards 36 TDs and 12 INTs. HB Tevin Coleman amassed 1563 yards on the ground with 18 TDs. He also hauled in 40 passes for 532 yards and 6 scores. WR Amari Cooper had 1139 receiving yards and 10 TDs. This young Raiders team looks solid going into the playoffs and next season.
3.New York Giants (12-3)
The Giants were a pleasant surprise this season, ranked 17th and 6th in passing and rushing offense respectively. Led by QB Davis Webb, the Giants put up respectable numbers through the air. Webb had 3248 yards and 24 TDs to with 19 INTs. The New York rushing attack featured HB Anton Floyd who ran for 1437 yards and 15 TDs. Star WR OBJ had a down year, scoring only 5 TDs with his 707 receiving yards. The Giants look like a strong team this postseason, and will surely improve this offseason.
2. Philadelphia Eagles (14-1)
Philly didn't miss a beat in between their two owners, finishing with the 2nd best record in the NFC. The Eagles relied on their number one ranked rushing offense, but also posted the 13th best passing offense. QB Russell Wilson was traded for this season and put up 2451 yards, 22 TDs and only 6 INTs. League leading HB Jordan Howard rushed for 2036 yards and 24 TDs. Philadelphia's best WR was the speedy Phillip Dorsett who had 1075 yards and 8 TDs. The Eagles are favored to meet Atlanta in the championship game this season, and with Howard leading the way, they could make it to the Super Bowl.
1. Pittsburgh Steelers (11-4)
The Steelers have an explosive offense this season, led by old Big Ben. The veteran QB threw for 3629 yards, 28 TDs, and 18 INTs. Star back Leveon Bell had 1721 yards and 17 scores. All-Pro WR Antonio Brown caught 68 passes for 1191 yards and 6 TDs. Pittsburgh's triplets had a great season and the city is optomistc going into the postseason, the Steelers are trying to punch their ticket to the Super Bowl with this electric offense.
Today I will be taking a look at the QBs around the league. I will look at the top 5 QBs per attribute, the top 5 QBs 25 and under, and look at the top 5 QBs overall.

A few names are on multiple lists which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, and Big Ben are among the top QBs in the league. Their accuracy has a lot to do with that. Brees and Roethlisberger are both in the top 5 for passing yards right now, with Ryan the league leader in passing TDs. Next we will look at the top QBs 25 and under.
1. Patrick Mahomes II (KC)- 89 OVR, 19 TDs/10 INTs, 2020 YDs, 97 THP, 93 SAC, 89 MAC, 82 DAC, Quick Dev, 23 YO.

5. Mitchell Trubisky (CHI)- 82 OVR, 14 TDs/5 INTs, 1753 YDs, 93 THP, 87 SAC, 84 MAC, 76 DAC, Average Dev, 25 YO.
There are some talented young QBs and it starts with Patrick Mahomes. The 23 year old is already one of the best in the league and has a lot of time to grow with that Quick Dev. This has to be scary for the AFC. I wouldn't be surprised if Mahomes is a top 5 QB this time next season. If the Chiefs can continue to win games and Mahomes can improve his play, he will be one of the best. Hopefully he learns how to play from the pocket, rolling out every play could be bad for his health.
Top 5 QBs by OVR
1. Aaron Rodgers (GB)- 99
2. Matt Ryan (ATL)- 96
3. Andrew Luck (IND)- 94
4(T). Drew Brees (NO)- 93
4(T). Russell Wilson (PHI)- 93
This list could look very different next season with all 5 QBs 29 or older and 3 will be 35 or older next season. QBs Derek Carr, Dak Prescott, and Patrick Mahomes aren't too far behind at 91, 89, and 89 respectively.
