After making an ownership change the night prior, the 49ers traveled to Seattle to take on the struggling 3-10 Seahawks. If there were any questions about how the 49ers would handle the current drama, they were answered quickly in the first quarter when they jumped out to a 7-0 lead. The 49ers had a 21-13 lead at the half and would never look back. Both defenses took over in the second half, where each team managed only one touchdown.
Jimmy Garoppolo put on a stellar performance, completing 19 of 25 attempts for 262 yards. He threw four touchdowns, but had two fluke interceptions that don't concern the coaching staff. On the ground, A.Mattison really carried the load in the absence of superstar running back Dion Carrington, who is still recovering from a dislocated ankle. Mattison had 99 yards on the ground and added another five catches for 82 yards and a touchdown through the air. George Kittle also contributed two touchdowns on four catches.
The 49er defense was the lone cause for concern in this game. While the final score reflects a solid performance, the secondary seemed to be taking a bend, but don't break approach. And they bent quite a bit. Russell Wilson torched the secondary for 398 yards and two touchdowns. The defense did manage to get three interceptions and hold him to a 51% completion percentage. Tyler Lockett and Gary Jennings were the main targets. Each had six catches with 192 and 175 yards respectively. G.Jennings also turned two of those catches into touchdowns.
In the end, the 49ers were able to take care of business and leave Seattle with a 28-19 victory and move to 9-5 on the season. With an 0-14 Giants team next up on the schedule, followed by the 7-7 Bills to finish the season, the 49ers look to be in a really good position to make the playoffs.
