Hello RZ,
This is the final mock draft by myself (with guest Coach Valentine) of the cycle. In today’s mock, we went in a snake draft type. Valentine drafted 1st, I’m 2nd and 3rd and so. So, here it is. All picks are updated as of this writing.
#1 – Saints
Pick: QB – Zach Underwood
Thoughts: The Saints have expressed support for Spencer Rattler to kick of coach Spence's reign as the Saints Coach/ GM but Zach Underwood has the polish to help these Saints compete in the NFC south
#2 – Seahawks
Pick: QB – Ted Thurston
Thoughts: While Tracy is expected to go in the top 5, I think the idea of getting a 21 year old strong armed QB to give some deep shots to Metcalk fo the remainder of his contract is going to be easy choice.
#3 – 49ers
Pick: QB – Robert Tracey
Thoughts: After getting rid of noodle armed Purdy, the 49ers take Tracy. I'm not sure if it's upgrade, but I think avoiding new contracts was the only real reason they did it. We will have to see.
#4 – Bengals
Pick: LB – Max Alexander
Thoughts: Bengals are in dire need of a pass rush attack and they have a few options here but I think the Tennesse product will pair well with Trey Hendrickson to give that pass rush an identity.
#5 – Browns
Pick: DE – Marcus Overstreet
Thoughts: Browns traded away their crown jewel Myles Garrett and will likely be trying to replace his production for years to come. Overstreet has a chance to come in and make an immediate impact
#6 – Steelers
Pick: QB Dion Bullocks
Thoughts: 4 QBs in the top 6 picks? Coach WG seemed awfully excited about maybe getting Mac Jones in PIttsburgh, but that cannot possibly be the long term answer. The word on Bullocks is he's a lesser version of Kyler. Will WG grab his next scrambler?
#7 – Bears
Pick: DT Marcus Witherspoon
Thoughts: The Bears we absolutely AWFUL defending the run. If you played them, you were running it down the middle every play, as you could get at least 4 yards. Bears were hoping to get a vet here in a trade, but they take Witherspoon. Hopefully the bleeding stops.
#8 – Raiders
Pick: OT – Jesse Curtis
Thoughts: As much as the Raiders would like to put an end to the QB carousel the 8th pick may make that next year's problem. I think they set the foundation for who whoever that is with an elite OT in Curtis
#9 – Giants
Pick: QB – BJ Frazier
Thoughts: The Danny Dimes era may be coming to an end in the big apple. I expect the Giants to take the Kansas State product.
#10 – Colts
Pick: CB – George Gilchrist
Thoughts: The first CB goes. Easley and Gilchrist are the top 2 coners in the draft. I think Gilchrist combine numbers put him over Easly
#11 – Broncos
Pick: CB – Max Easly
Thoughts: With an aging Wallace aside Surtain, the Broncos look to grab the other top 2 CB in Easly. That'll give the Broncos two potential top CBs for the whole cycle if they can develop him.
#12 – Buccaneers
Pick: WR – Matt Mathis.
Thoughts: Bucs need to start thinking of their succession plan at WR once Mike Evans' HOF career comes to an end. Now is the best time to address this need.
#13 – Chiefs
Pick: LB – Jalen Hankins
Thoughts: Chiefs could either strengthen their pass rush or their oline. Either way, an improvement in the trenches is in order.
#14 – Rams
Pick: OT – Eric Conover
Thoughts: The Rams would love to get a new QB here, but it might be a reach. Guess 1 more season with Stafford doesn't hurt. They instead protect Stafford here and build confidence in the OT for the future
#15 – Patriots
Pick: CB – Byron Pendleton
Thoughts: I think the Patriots could be looking a few positions, but you have Tyreek Waddle to contend with, not to mention the other passing attacks. You can't be depleted at CB in that division.
#16 – Steelers
Pick: HB – Jermaine Rodgers
Thoughts: With no quarterback or running back on the roster, it may be a good time to invest in a rushing attack for the cycle ahead. The SMU back gives you a little of both rushing and receiving skills.
#17 – 49ers
Pick: OT – Deionte Guton
Thoughts: Filling the talent gap left by the retiring of Trent Williams will be critical for this 49ers offense who traded away Brock Purdy for a huge return, betting big on the future of that offense.
#18 – Dolphins
Pick: SS – Connor Craig
Thoughts: The Dolphins are about to ask people to get on the field for open tryouts at the safety position. They have no one there.
#19 – Cardinals
Pick: WR – Jacoby Forbes (or is it Ford? I’m not on the xbox atm)
Thoughts: I know they just signed the track start Hardman in FA, but there is a HUGE drop off from Harrison to anyone else. They can get a nice WR to pair with Harrison for the cycle.
#20 – Jaguars
Pick: LB – Shaq Davis
Thoughts: The Jags made it a point to improve their secondary in free agency, only leaving the outside pass rush as the only hole to fill. Davis, out of Auburn, has a high ceiling.
#21 – Falcons
Pick: WR – Devante White
Thoughts: The Michigan speedster could kick off the Penix era with a great start, turning short throws into big plays with his blazing speed and playmaking ability.
#22 – Texans
Pick: LB – Daniel Beasley
Thoughts: Not exactly a scheme fit, but drafting on pure talent that you can hope to transition to your scheme. The Texans needs some line backers
#23 – Commanders
Pick: DE – Alex Wilson
Thoughts: You got Myles Garrett, go get his counter part. Solidify that edge.
#24 – Panthers
Pick: WR – Trevor Whitmore
Thoughts: With Hendon as the only QB on the roster, I expect the Panthers to address that position later in the draft but at pick 24 they select another WR to step up as Adam Theilen's career winds down
#25 – Ravens
Pick: WR – Kameron Winters
Thoughts: The 6'3" receiver out of Alabama gives this team a redzone threat and a more physical guy to match with Zay Flower's ability to stretch the field
#26 – Bills
Pick: LB – Tony Thurston
Thoughts: Another guy that that gets drafted based on talent and upside. He doesn't fit day one, but he will mold into what they are looking for.
#27 – Broncos
Pick: WR – Jeremy McCary
Thoughts: Letting Sutton go and as of yet not finding a replacement indicates they might have picked one earlier, but they are for sure getting one now.
#28 – Patriots
Pick: TE – Brandon Palumbo
Thoughts: I could see the Patriots utilizing a lot of 12 personnel this year. They take a 2nd TE here to pair with Hunter Henry to stress LBs around the league.
#29 – Chargers
Pick: DE – Jermaine DuVall
Thoughts: While run stopping DE aren't popular, Duvall adds vertistilty as either a DT or DE with his ability to stuff the run.
#30 – Packers
Pick: DE – Patrick Allen
Thoughts: Does this one really need any explanation?
#31 – Steelers
Pick: CB – Jacoby Ford
Thoughts: What is going on in Pittsburgh?
#32 – Jets
Pick: TE – Brian Elfman
Thoughts: Jets take the uber-athletic TE here to add yet another target to their Super Bowl winning offense.
