BarStool Soap Box- Andy
I’m running out of creative names leave me alone. Let me preface this with a few words before we get to the meat of the pig. First off, we take donations. Had to buy a new soap box because the one Moji was on was a little too big for me. Secondly, I don’t think I’ve been here long enough to have a very large say or opinions on what this league does/doesn’t do because in the grand scheme of things I’ve been here for a small amount of time. One day I hope to be able to help contribute and better the league in more ways than just media. With that said I’m going to give my opinions on what I think the changes will be and some things circulating through chat. Feel free to let me know yours as well!
Hot Routes
I’ve racked my brain thinking what this could be. We already have a rule for this but as Kelly and Jake said before in chat during Tiko v Andy, people have a different perception on when it is okay to hot route or when it isn’t. (Ex. Hot routing every time you see press or something of that nature.) While Jake did say that wasn’t okay I think they’ve made a new rule open to no interpretation. A part of me says no way they’re banning hot routing in general and another part says Moji has a heavy hammer. While this is being talked about to be a huge change, which I’m sure it will be, it will most likely only affect a handful of people drastically. This is one I’m not sure the answer or even have a suggestion but I know the pickles have it under control.
Left Sticking
This is another one that’s probably been 60% of chat since Moji found the one pie he didn’t like last night. One answer is back to none at all. One could be the ball carrier can only move northwest northeast when left sticking and at no point should shoulder pads be parallel to the goal line after the initial direction is taken with the ball. I think that one would be a happy medium but policing it may be tougher and leaves room for a lot of chat arguments.
Concept Cap
I don’t believe this is being discussed in the pickle chat and I don’t think it should be but there was a main chat conversation about it. Even before the Monty debacle I remember Jake already answering the “specific play call or play concept” question numerous times. As everyone knows I was/still somewhat am a coach suggestion guy but as you go through your playbook you see a ton of different plays for situations where it’s not warranted to need the same concept over and over. I do think however some plays that are the same but out of a different formation can be used for different things. For instance verticals in shotgun may have a slightly different play-art and we use it for cover 2 where the safety has to choose then a verticals out of single back can have the TE on a small wheel before his break and can be used as a quick cover 3 seam beater. But with a rule their can’t be any exceptions because that leads to bad judgment and confusion.
PieGuy
This isn’t any “rule changes” I just hope he reads this. We all got our sentiments out chaotically in chat today but these are all my thoughts in one place. Keep in mind, I’ve only been in RZ 2 full cycles and the last 2 or 3 seasons for my first one. I feel like I sound like silk when I’m saying this but the new-guy attitude in RedZone feels a little different recently. Maybe it depends on the person as well because I joined at the same time Coffie did and he lasted like 4 games. RedZone is a great community but we all are here for one common interest and that’s playing sim football. When I got here it was also my first sim experience and I would pm people and ask them for honest feedback and take it to heart. I played every game really nervous that I wasn’t doing something right. (It would still kill me to win a LFTP) but we’ve had new guys come in here, be defensive on feedback even to guys who helped build RZ up to what it is. My advice to PieGuy is to listen and implement. Not just listen. You may lose some games over changing things but this isn’t a league that you want to let pass you by. Us being his side league is a whole other topic. The most important thing for me in a game is to have fun. I used to care about winning a lot more but if I lose and still felt the chess match going on between me and my opponent, I don’t get mad. The commissioners will be your biggest asset if you let them. Moji helped me get through a lot of growing pains even before he was a commissioner. But going hard-ass in chat and somewhat devaluing opinions isn’t the way to go when you’re in the process of building your credentials in RedZone. If you are a top 10 pick but have sim gameplay, everyone will respect it more than this super bowl run.
Who dat! Go Saints.
