TOFN Season 78 Mock Draft #5

Mock Draft #5, the final mock of one can only be described as chaotic for this offseason.  We saw major trades of QBs (Which, this time, I’m going to account for).  We saw the Chiefs unload on a bunch of players after one of the weirdest trade ramifications that I’ve personally ever seen.  We seen teams trade out of the draft.  Free agency saw some big names move to new places (How is the Eagles can make big offers on free agents every offseason, they gotta be spending money somewhere?) and a debacle between the Vikings and Panthers that saw Travis Kelce sign with the Panthers, with the Vikings, and then sign with the Panthers again.  So, with ONLY a couple of hours remaining, I go through ONE last time, with updated team needs and draft order to give you my FINAL mock draft… Maybe Ever? 

 

 

  1. Denver Broncos
  • Team Needs:  QB, CB, TE
  • Key Losses: QB Russell Wilson
  • Key Acquisitions:  MLB – C.J. Mosley
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: QB – Joe Taft
  • Thoughts: The Broncos cut ties with Wilson. They made no real effort to resign him in the offseason.  They grabbed a stop MLB in C.J. Mosley to bridge them, and maybe they go MLB in the 2nd round or later.  The choice is Fordham or Taft.  I’m still going with Taft.

  1. Cleveland Browns
  • Team Needs: QB
  • Key Losses: QB – Deshaun Watson
  • Key Acquisitions:  WR – Michael Thomas, WR – Am-Ron St Brown
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: QB – Brett Fordham
  • Thoughts: Browns gave up a ton to get Watson, who I guess just wasn’t the right fit for the Browns.  They’ve now moved on.  While Bobby Callahan would be a great pick up here.  The Browns must have a plan at QB in the draft.  With Taft gone, the Browns don’t wait more than 5 seconds to draft Fordham.

 

  1. San Francisco 49ers
  • Team Needs: QB, OLB, CB, FS, WR, TE, RG, RT
  • Key Losses: CB – Charvarius Ward, TE – George Kittle, WR – Brandon Aiyuk, LE – Arik Armstead
  • Key Acquisitions: SS – Jordan Fuller
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: WR – Darius Barlow
  • Thoughts: A few weeks ago, I could’ve given you 3-4 players that the 49ers could be targeting.  Now, I’m not even sure. I’m guessing the love for the 49ers by their coach is why they are not giving up on Lance. They should, but that’s my opinion.  With no Aiyuk, no Kittle, they have to be getting someone on offense.  Barlow is the most dangerous WR in the draft.

 

  1. Las Vegas Raiders
  • Team Needs: QB, RE, TE, LG, RT
  • Key Losses: TE – Darren Waller
  • Key Acquisitions: None
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick:  RG – Daymond Brooks
  • Thoughts: I’ve given up thinking the Raiders will grab a QB.  They have a blaring need at TE and OL.  I’m really high on Brooks.   I think you could get a Brooks could easily be in the top 10 every year at OL.  It’ll be interesting, I could see a possible look at Callahan or Porter here. 

  1. Cincinnati Bengals
  • Team Needs: RE, LE, LOLB, ROLB, RT
  • Key Losses: QB – Ryan Tannehill, HB – Melvin Gordon, RE – Trey Hendrickson
  • Key Acquisitions: QB – Russell Wilson, MLB – Bobby Wagner
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: LE – Bobby Callahan
  • Thoughts:  They grabbed a QB, as Ben Baker wasn’t the answer and Tannehill was a rent.  They let Hendrickson go to free agency Bobby Callahan is the best DE in the draft.  The Bengals will likely be going to that well. 

 

  1. Kansas City Chiefs
  • Team Needs: HB, DT, LOLB, FS, WR, LG, C, RG
  • Key Losses: HB – Cylde Edwards Helair, TE – Travis Kelce, SS – Justin Reid, DT – Chris Jones, LG – Joe Thuney, RG – Trey Smith
  • Key Acquisitions: None
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: FS – Sterling Lewis
  • Thoughts:  I think DT Stockton could easily be the pick here.  But, it could be anyone, to be fair.  This is my biggest head scratcher besides the Rams.

 

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Team Needs: QB, HB, LE, TE, LT, LG, RG
  • Key Losses: RG- Shaq Mason, HB – Leonard Fournette, FS – Antoine Winfield Jr, QB – Tua Tagovailoa
  • Key Acquisitions: SS – Tyrann Mathieu
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: QB – Steven Floyd
  • Thoughts:  Tua time is officially over in Tampa Bay.  So, the Buccaneers are 100 % going QB here.  Henderson or Floyd?  I’m going Floyd.   It’s a boarder line coin flip.

 

  1. New Orleans Saints
  • Team Needs: RE, LOLB, LG
  • Key Losses: MLB – DeMario Davis, TE – Taysom Hill, WR – Michael Thomas
  • Key Acquisitions: QB – Deshaun Watson, DT – D.J. Reader, MLB – Deon Jones, WR – Brandon Aiyuk, CB – Charvarius Ward
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: ROLB – Kasey Etienne
  • Thoughts: The Saints were very busy in the offseason.  One thing they didn’t address was the OLB position.  Kasey is the best OLB this year.  Looks at the Saints to consider Claiborne here, as well.

 

  1. New England Patriots
  • Team Needs: MLB, CB, FS, WR, LG
  • Key Losses: QB – Tom Brady, WR – DeVante Parker, FS – Devin McCourty, FS Jabril Peppers, TE Hunter Henry, RG – Mike Onwenu, CB – Adoree Jackson,
  • Key Acquisitions: RE – Akiem Hicks, LOLB – Hasaan Reddick
  • Madden Projected Pick:  
  • My Projected Pick: WR – Linsey Albert
  • Thoughts: This could go plenty of ways.  But, it’s either going to be Albert or it’s going to be a cornerback.

 

  1. San Francisco 49ers
  • Team Needs: Already discussed
  • Key Losses:  Already discussed
  • Key Acquisitions: Already discussed
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: TE – Brendan Porter
  • Thoughts: This is another make a pick, who know who it will be.  But you lost your best options in the passing game, so I think you have to replace them.  Porter is the guy to take.

 

  1. Baltimore Ravens
  • Team Needs: MLB, ROLB, WR, LG
  • Key Losses: None
  • Key Acquisitions: None
  • Madden Projected Pick:  
  • My Projected Pick: OLB – Steven Carroll
  • Thoughts: The Ravens had a very boring offseason.  Nothing really changes.  Let’s keep our draft pick consistent here.

 

  1. New York Jets
  • Team Needs: QB, TE, MLB, RT
  • Key Losses: MLB – C.J. Mosley
  • Key Acquisitions: None
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: RT – George Belfort
  • Thoughts:  Back to back boring offseasons for Ravens and Jets.  The only thing that MIGHT change is the Jets could be going MLB Rahim Dansby here.

 

  1. Los Angeles Rams
  • Team Needs: QB, TE, LT, LE, DT, LOLB, MLB, ROLB, CB, FS
  • Key Losses: RT – Rob Havenstein, RE – Aaron Donald, MLB – Bobby Wagner, TE – Tyler Higbee, HB – Cam Akers, WR – Van Jefferson, SS – Jordan Fuller
  • Key Acquisitions: None
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: RE – Jarred Claiborne
  • Thoughts: I like this pick just as much as I like any pick the Rams could take here.  Take the BPA, which could be Claiborne.  This team… man.

 

  1. New York Giants
  • Team Needs: LE, MLB, ROLB, CB, SS
  • Key Losses: WR – Tyler Boyd, WR – Kenny Golladay
  • Key Acquisitions: WR – Lavishka Shenault, RG – Trey Smith
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: CB – Marshall Bonds
  • Thoughts: Some reason, Bonds is still on the board and the Giants don’t hesitate to take him. 

  1. Miami Dolphins
  • Team Needs:  QB, LOLB, SS, C
  • Key Losses: HB – Chase Edmunds, RT – Terron Armstead
  • Key Acquisitions: None
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: QB – Donnell Henderson
  • Thoughts:  Dolphins don’t address having a QB in free agency. It’s clear it’s draft or bust now.  Donnell Henderson is the definitely worth taking in the 1st round. 

  1. Dallas Cowboys
  • Team Needs: QB, RE, TE
  • Key Losses: QB – Dak Prescott
  • Key Acquisitions: RT – Terron Armstead, RG – Shaq Mason, MLB – Myles Jack,
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: QB – Montra Sellers
  • Thoughts:  I think they Cowboys had a great offseason, but did NOT pick up their QB.  Letting Dak go and go into the division will be a hard pill to swallow.

  • Thoughts: I’m going to keep my pick.  Dixon is an athlete and is ready to go day one.

  • My Projected Pick: TE – Manu Medina
  • Thoughts:  With how the draft falls so far, the Jets still go Tight End, but instead get Medina, who is going to be a strong candidate for ROY for the this team.

  • My Projected Pick: LE – Courtney Greenfield
  • Thoughts:  This could got a few different ways, but I think the upside of Greenfield leads them to take them at this point.

 

  1. Houston Texans

  • Key Losses: WR – Mike Williams
  • Key Acquisitions: WR – Gabe Davis, RT – Rob Havenstein, WR – Kenny Golladay, RE – Trey Hendrickson
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: MLB – Rahim Dansby
  • Thoughts:  The Texans would have loved for one of the best QBs to drop to them. But, unfortunately, there isn’t a 1st round quarter back left to take.  But, the Texans need a middle linebacker.  And they get the best one available.  Best of a bad situation.

 

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Team Needs: MLB, CB
  • Key Losses: MLB – Deon Jones,
  • Key Acquisitions: RE – Preston Smith, DT – Derrick Brown
  • Madden Projected Pick: MLB – Christopher Burley
  • My Projected Pick: MLB – Christopher Burley
  • Thoughts: A team that could’ve used a 2nd MLB losses the MLB they traded for.  Chris Burley is he 2nd best MLB in the draft. So, you have a guy that could be impactful from day one.

 

  1. Green Bay Packers
  • Team Needs: WR, LG, C, RG, RT
  • Key Losses: None
  • Key Acquisitions: None
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: LT – Ricardo Johnson
  • Thoughts: Another team with a boring offseason.  Rodgers remains in Green Bay, so the need for a QB is gone.  The Packers walk away with eh best LT in the draft class.

  1. Washington Commanders
  • Team Needs: QB, OLB
  • Key Losses:
  • Key Acquisitions: TE – Hunter Henry
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: ROLB – Toby Parker
  • Thoughts: They way this draft happens, it feels Howell could be better than the rest of the field at QB. So, you look at Toby Parker and he’s the guy that gets the selection.

 

  1. Atlanta Falcons
  • Team Needs: RE, LT, RT
  • Key Losses: CB – Casey Heyward
  • Key Acquisitions: CB – Kenny Moore, SS – Justin Reid, RG – Mike Onwenu
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: LT – Ben Jarrett
  • Thoughts: The Falcons have allowed Ridder to get sacked 111 times in 2 seasons (not counting the playoffs). They have to address this.

 

  1. Carolina Panthers
  • Team Needs: LOLB, SS, C
  • Key Losses: TE – Austin Hooper, DT – Derrick Brown,
  • Key Acquisitions: RE – Aaron Donald, CB – Chidobe Awuzie, WR – Devante Parker, TE – Tavis Kelce
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: SS – Travis Winston
  • Thoughts:  One of the best offseasons, the Panthers are pretty good at most places.  But they could use a starting strong safety.  The best one in the draft falls to 25

 

  1. Indianapolis Colts
  • Team Needs: ROLB, TE
  • Key Losses: CB – Kenny Moore, ROLB – Yannick Ngakoe
  • Key Acquisitions: LE – Arik Armstead
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: TE – Clay Rose
  • Thoughts: This roster is pretty solid from top to bottom.  But, they need a tight end.  Klay Rose is a beast and can be ready to go for the Colts.

 

  1. Carolina Panthers
  • Team Needs: Already discussed
  • Key Losses: Already discussed
  • Key Acquisitions: Already discussed
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: LOLB – Kenny McKinney
  • Thoughts: Already discussed not that long ago.  The Panthers are likely wanting to get younger at the OLB position.  McKinney is sort of a project, but could be ready to take over if they let Shaq go next offseason.

  1. Los Angeles Chargers
  • Team Needs: RE, LOLB, ROLB, FS, WR, LG, RG
  • Key Losses: DT – Fletcher Cox
  • Key Acquisitions:  DT – B.J. Hill, TE – Darren Waller
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: RG – Michael Thompson
  • Thoughts: The Chargers are still deadly on offense, Gabe Jackson being 33 and having no real threat at LG, the Chargers get lucky and get a day one starter.

  • Thoughts: The Texans need a guard.  They get a shot at a really good one.   I don’t really like talking teams I already talked about.
