TOFN Season 78 Mock Draft #4

Mock Draft #4, the most insane mock draft so far. 

The trades???  The TRADES??!?!?!?! THE TRADES!!!!!  Look, Red Zone, when I started this mock draft, 1-3 were kind of hard, I had to do some guess and checks.  But, after 3 mocks, I had this down on my end.  Before I even get to the actual draft, let’s review the trades that effected this fourth version. 

Bills trade out of the 1st round pick and get some draft capital. Browns move into the top 20.  The Browns, who were without picks when we started this Madden, keep adding more and more 1st rounders.  I probably should’ve noted that on my best GM vote… but I digress.

Jaguars trade the 10th overall pick to the 49ers in return for Kittle.  The Jaguars are taking all of the offensive talent from the NFC West.  They got Lockette now they got Kittle.  It was a no brainer for the Jags as the process of drafting is on their backburner for the foreseeable future.  The 49ers gave up an elite TE to get some picks.  I’m not sure why.  But, there are a LOT of great TEs in this draft. 

And look.  I need to address this trade.  Because I brought this up in the 1st and 2nd mock drafts and then I don’t even know what happened.  The Eagles gave up Fletcher Cox, who is in free agency right now, and now trade for Chris Jones.  Normally, not a big deal.  But I clear as day took the Stockton off the board for the Chiefs because, “I didn’t think they were going resign Chris Jones.”  So, out of spit… I’m going to tell you all right now, I know it won’t happen, but I’m giving the Chiefs John Stockton in my mock draft. 

As I go back and look, Watson did get traded.  So, I’m going make that adjustments for the next mock.

Now, to the meat of the matter.   This is my 4th mock draft, this will feature picks, as they were shown on the mock draft #4.  I have it a little updated with free agency… as the Falcons got screwed hard in free agency and I need some time to let that in still.

 

  1. Denver Broncos
  • Team Needs:  QB, MLB, CB, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick: QB – Brett Fordham
  • My Projected Pick: QB – Joe Taft
  • Thoughts: The Broncos have officially moved on from Russell Wilson. So, any doubts of what position they are taking are all gone.  Now, the question remains, will they be taking Taft or Fordham. I still think Taft is the better QB, but Fordham is going to have the higher ceiling.   Congratulations on the Broncos on drafting the next OROY
  1. Cleveland Browns
  • Team Needs: QB????, DE, OLB, WR, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick: QB – Joe Taft
  • My Projected Pick: LE – Bobby Callahan
  • Thoughts: Unless the Browns can move Watson before the draft, I can’t imagine them taking a Quarterback.  Bobby Callahan is a stud.  I legit replacement for Myles Garrett.  As I write this, the Chiefs just did a highway robbery of the Lions.
  1. San Francisco 49ers
  • Team Needs: QB, OLB, SS, LT?, RG
  • Madden Projected Pick: ROLB – Kasey Etienne
  • My Projected Pick:  ROLB – Kasey Etienne
  • Thoughts: If you’re trading away one of the best blankets for a QB in Kittle, you’re not moving on from a QB. You can’t go into a rookie campaign without one of the best options.  So, now we look at Etienne.  I think he’s a real good OLB that can help with stopping the run.  Good value.
  1. Las Vegas Raiders
  • Team Needs: QB, MLB, LG, RG, RT
  • Madden Projected Pick: QB – Donnell Henderson
  • My Projected Pick:  QB – Donnell Henderson
  • Thoughts: I think this easily could go back to Daymond Brooks here, as the Raiders still have Carr on the roster.  But, I think they didn’t expect the run of players that went off.  Henderson could give you the upside you need to take on a very top heavy QB division. 
  1. Cincinnati Bengals
  • Team Needs: QB, LE, LOLB, ROLB, LG
  • Madden Projected Pick: CB – Kentrell Pinkins
  • My Projected Pick: LG – Daymond Brooks.
  • Thoughts:  This pick go in a few ways. I don’t see corner as one of them. I think Daymond Brooks is the next Quentin Nelson.  The Bengals may or may not value OL as much as I do.  They could also grab Doug Pierce or Steven Carroll here.
  1. Kansas City Chiefs
  • Team Needs: LOLB, WR, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick: TE Brendan Porter
  • My Projected Pick: DT – John Stockton
  • Thoughts:  The end. Next
  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Team Needs: QB, LE, LOLB, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick: LT – Ricardo Johnson
  • My Projected Pick: TE – Brendan Porter
  • Thoughts:  I think the Bucs could take Johnson, as they prepare to lose a ton of good players next offseason, but I think Porter, who isn’t elite speed TE, could be the best value pick.  Maybe it’s too high for him.  They instead go Claiborne?
  1. New Orleans Saints
  • Team Needs: QB, LE, RE, LOLB, MLB, ROLB, CB, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick: TE – Clay Rose
  • My Projected Pick: CB – Marshall Bonds
  • Thoughts: I’ll stick with my original pick.  With all the same reasonings.
  1. New England Patriots
  • Team Needs: QB?, LE, RE, CB, WR, LG
  • Madden Projected Pick:  RG – Daymond Brooks
  • My Projected Pick: WR – Darius Barlow
  • Thoughts: The Patriots are gifted the most physically talented WR in this draft.  But, don’t get too comfortable, as this pick will VERY likely change when I get to mock draft #5.
  1. San Francisco 49ers
  • Team Needs: QB, OLB, SS, LT?, RG
  • Madden Projected Pick: RT – George Belfort
  • My Projected Pick: FS – Sterling Lewis
  • Thoughts: Different team drafting at #10, same pick.  I think Sterling Lewis is a top 10 pick.  And the 49ers still need a safety. 
  1. Baltimore Ravens
  • Team Needs: MLB, ROLB, WR, LG
  • Madden Projected Pick:  LE – Bobby Callahan
  • My Projected Pick: OLB – Steven Carroll
  • Thoughts: Again, I’ll stick with my guns here.  The Linebacker needed Ravens go get their office manager.
  1. New York Jets
  • Team Needs: QB, TE, RT
  • Madden Projected Pick: FS – Max Spencer
  • My Projected Pick: RT – George Belfort
  • Thoughts:  No need to change what’s working for me.  I haven’t seen anything to say otherwise.
  1. Los Angeles Rams
  • Team Needs: QB, TE, LT, LE, DT, LOLB, MLB, ROLB, CB, FS
  • Madden Projected Pick: RE – Jarred Claiborne
  • My Projected Pick: RE – Jarred Claiborne
  • Thoughts: I like this pick just as much as I like any pick the Rams could take here.  Take the BPA, which could be Claiborne.
  1. New York Giants
  • Team Needs: QB, LE, MLB, ROLB, CB, SS
  • Madden Projected Pick: RG – Michael Thompson
  • My Projected Pick: SS – Travis Winston
  • Thoughts: I don’t have the Giants needing offensive linemen.  But, Travis Winston still being available would be great for the Giants.
  1. Miami Dolphins
  • Team Needs:  QB, LOLB, SS
  • Madden Projected Pick: QB – Steven Floyd
  • My Projected Pick: LOLB – Doug Pierce
  • Thoughts:  I’m going to have to take a consideration for a QB here in my next mock draft for the Dolphins.  I haven’t done enough research to see if they found the next guy, but this draft, I think having Doug Pierce go to them would be great.
  1. Dallas Cowboys
  • Team Needs: TE, LG, RG, RE, DT, CB, FS, SS
  • Madden Projected Pick: SS – Travis Winston
  • My Projected Pick: TE – Manu Medina
  • Thoughts:  Winston is gone by this pick. I think Medina, who I still love but has low ceiling, gives the Cowboys their cycle TE.
  1. Cincinnati Bengals
  • Team Needs: QB, LE, LOLB, ROLB, LG
  • Madden Projected Pick: QB – Braxton Curtis
  • My Projected Pick: LOLB – Joseph Dixon
  • Thoughts: First, who is Braxton Curtis?  Madden does not like the Bengals.  I really hope their board is ready.  Dixon is Speed Rushing OLB that could be ready from day one for the Bengals. 
  1. New York Jets
  • Team Needs: QB, TE, RT
  • Madden Projected Pick: FS – Sterling Lewis
  • My Projected Pick: TE – Clay Rose
  • Thoughts:  I’ll keep my choice. Rose is definitely going to be able to contribute for the Jets offense.
  1. Cleveland Browns
  • Team Needs: OLB, WR, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick: QB – Ben Whitfield
  • My Projected Pick: WR – Linsey Albert
  • Thoughts:  I guess when Madden has you projected to take a 2nd QB in the first round, I should’ve realized that the Browns traded away Watson.  Albert isn’t the flashiest WR in the draft, but he could easily be the highest ceiling. 
  1. Houston Texans
  • Team Needs: QB, LT, RG, RT
  • Madden Projected Pick: LE – Courtney Greenfield
  • My Projected Pick: RT – Andrew Peterson
  • Thoughts:  So, this is the last of the picks from mock 3.  With Peterson still otb and a need, I’ll just keep the chains moving. 
  1. Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Team Needs: MLB, CB
  • Madden Projected Pick: MLB – Christopher Burley
  • My Projected Pick: MLB – Rahim Dansby
  • Thoughts: The Steelers have a very solid core.  Not a lot of holes.  But, one glaring need is a MLB. Rahim Dansby is, in my opinion, the best MLB in a very mediocre group
  1. Green Bay
  • Team Needs: QB, WR, LG, C, RG, RT
  • Madden Projected Pick: CB – Marshall Bonds
  • My Projected Pick: LT – Ben Jarrett
  • Thoughts: Maybe you take a flier a Steven Moore or a Jalen Price.  But, the available platers at needs is slim.  Ben Jarrett could be taken moved to RT, or move the starting LT to RT. But, this is at the point, best case scenario.
  1. Washington Commanders
  • Team Needs: QB, OLB, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick: CB – Taylor Warner
  • My Projected Pick: QB – Steven Floyd
  • Thoughts: The team could go another year with Howell, but I think getting Floyd is the better option. 
  1. Atlanta Falcons
  • Team Needs: RE, LT, LG, RT
  • Madden Projected Pick: DT – John Stockton
  • My Projected Pick: RG – Anthony Good
  • Thoughts: The Falcons have allowed Ridder to get sacked 111 times in 2 seasons (not counting the playoffs). They have to address this.
  1. Carolina Panthers
  • Team Needs: LOLB, MLB, SS, TE, C
  • Madden Projected Pick: MLB – Rahim Dansby
  • My Projected Pick: ROLB – Toby Parker
  • Thoughts:  I think this has to be a linebacker.  The Panthers have been openly shopping Shaq Thompson and have no LOLB on the roster at this point.  Chris Burley could be a pick as well. 

Well, that concludes mock draft #4.  Once Free Agency Ends tonight, I will begin working on the final mock draft.  Thanks everyone.
