TOFN Season 78 Mock Draft #3

by TheOneFromNone | 2 years ago | 0 Comments

Hello again, we are now on mock draft #3.  This will feature only the teams that didn’t make it into the playoffs – or at least teams that are drafting in the top 20 as these spots are set.  I know this could be all for naught as we are likely going to skip the whole draft process.  But doom and gloom be damned, I’m still here.  I’m still writing your mock drafts.   Let’s get into it!

  1. Denver Broncos
  • Team Needs:  QB, MLB, CB, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: QB – Joe Taft
  • Thoughts: I think it’s time to move on from Wilson.  Even if he doesn’t retire.  His price and regression to me say “Okay, maybe it’s time to cut our losses.”  The Broncos aren’t a bad team overall. I think Taft is the QB of the draft. While I think he’ll be gifted the best tools, but I think he’ll likely get hindered by a normal development.
  1. Cleveland Browns
  • Team Needs: QB????, DE, OLB, WR, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: LE – Bobby Callahan
  • Thoughts: The current rumor is the Browns, who made the playoffs this year, have Watson on the block. I can’t imagine the draft capital the Browns gave up to get Watson that this is even in the cards.  If he’s gone, clearly it won’t be my choice.  But, let’s get to Bobby Callahan. I had him slated #1 over to the Jags on my 1st mock draft.  But, things moved and most didn’t need a defensive end.  I think if I’m the Jags, Callahan is #1 on my board.
  1. San Francisco 49ers
  • Team Needs: QB, OLB, SS, LT?, RG
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: QB – Brett Fordham
  • Thoughts: Trey Lance has been a RZ bust.  He hasn’t put up any great stats.  He’s been okay.  Will the 49ers be drafting high every year?  I hope not.  I think the 49ers are a great team.   I don’t think you pass up on Fordham.  He might have the highest potential of any QB in this draft. He isn’t as ready to go as Taft, but he could be MVP candidate by year 3.    But, if Trent Williams retires, I could see Ricardo Johnson here.
  1. Las Vegas Raiders
  • Team Needs: QB, MLB, LG, RG, RT
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick:  RG – Daymond Brooks
  • Thoughts: First, I almost wrote Oakland.  I’m just going start saying everything is an auto-correct at this point.  In my first draft, I had them taking Brooks.  Then they moved into the top 3 and had a chance at a QB, but outside of the top 3, do you go for Henderson here or do you look at one of the best guards.  QB or OL?
  1. Cincinnati Bengals
  • Team Needs: QB, LE, LOLB, ROLB, LG
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: QB – Donnell Henderson
  • Thoughts: Last year, at pick #5 is where everything ended.  The draft crashed and teams were drafting chaotic.  But, #5 was one of the best picks in the first draft.  Bengals hit on this pic, and then things went downhill.  So, the Bengals tried to experiment with Baker, it didn’t work as they brought in Tannehill.  So, the 35-year-old QB has played great, but this is where the Bengals could take their actual QB of the future… which… didn’t they already have one?  I digress.  Speaking of QB Value, that chart last year of valuing QB OA vs Team success didn’t appear once, I wonder how it would’ve looked this season.
  1. Kansas City Chiefs
  • Team Needs: LOLB, WR, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: WR – Darius Barlow
  • Thoughts: I’m not budging on this pick.  The Chiefs are still one of the best teams in the league.  Then you look at them drafting #6 OA while looking at a possible Super Bowl Title.   Giving the best QB in the league the best rookie WR, it’s a cant miss draft pick.  I will say, if Kelce retires, the next selected player will go here instead.
  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Team Needs: QB, LE, LOLB, TE,
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: TE – Brendan Porter
  • Thoughts: The Bucs are hoping the I’m completely wrong on every pic here and they can replace Tua.  It’s not going to happen.  What you can do is give Tua another option.  Mike Evans was a big target for Brady in the 1st season, but he left with Brady (not to the same team).  He’s not Peerman, but he’s going to be a high OA, high dev TE.  Tua or anyone else would be excited for the possibility.
  1. New Orleans Saints
  • Team Needs: QB, LE, RE, LOLB, MLB, ROLB, CB, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: CB – Marshall Bonds
  • Thoughts: The Saints are in a semi rebuild.  They could go anywhere.  But, the Saints have to face 3 good WRs in the rest of the division on each team (with the Panthers having 2 of the best in the league right now).  I think the Saints get excited Bonds falls to them.
  1. New England Patriots
  • Team Needs: QB?, LE, RE, CB, WR, LG
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: CB – Taylor Warner
  • Thoughts:  Brady has got to be retiring, right?  Is Mac Jones the heir apparent again?  Are the Patriots okay with their again WR core?  I think despite all that, you look at another top tier corner in Warner, and the Patriots don’t hesitate.
  1. Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Team Needs: LE, CB, FS, TE
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: FS – Sterling Lewis
  • Thoughts: The depressing Jaguars, who are calling for doom and gloom for the league, don’t need much on offense.  Maybe a TE, I do like the funky Manu Medina.  Instead, they get a day one starter in Sterling Lewis. Allowing some freedom to Diggs, who may end up being cut as he’s making 10 mil next season.
  1. Baltimore Ravens
  • Team Needs: MLB, ROLB, WR, LG
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: OLB – Steven Carroll
  • Thoughts:  The draft was not kind to the Ravens.  So, hopefully this one turns it around. Steven Carroll isn’t the fastest.  But he could easily come in and start from day one.  I think he’ll be a high potential guy as well.  Hopefully the Ravens get their first full season with new coaching started on a good note.
  1. New York Jets
  • Team Needs: QB, TE, RT
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: RT – George Belfort
  • Thoughts:  Madden’s first Mock draft had the Jets taking Belfort.  I wasn’t against it, but I thought there could be a better QB available. The 2nd one had them taking Montra Sellers.  I think Sellers could be your guy, but Belfort is easily the guy for the Jets.
  1. Los Angeles Rams
  • Team Needs: QB, TE, LT, LE, DT, LOLB, MLB, ROLB, CB, FS
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: LT – Ricardo Johnson
  • Thoughts:  The Rams could go anywhere. So, why not a left tackle?  I’m really not going to go in depth with my thoughts because I could very easily go wrong here.
  1. New York Giants
  • Team Needs: LE, MLB, ROLB, CB, SS
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: SS – Travis Winston
  • Thoughts: The Giants have a few options here at #14.  But, the main need is on defense.  They really could look at any position and find their starter.  Travis Winson is a good Hybrid Safety that has some speed.  I think this would be a great fit.
  1. Miami Dolphins
  • Team Needs:  QB, LOLB, SS
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: LOLB – Doug Pierce
  • Thoughts: The Phins don’t need a lot.  I love the idea of Doug Pierce here.  Doug isn’t flashy.  But the upside is there. He could be a rookie of the year candidate if he jumps to this team.
  1. Dallas Cowboys
  • Team Needs: TE, LG, RG, RE, DT, CB, FS, SS
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: TE – Manu Medina
  • Thoughts:   After the Boys got the antithesis of Cordarrelle Patterson in Townsend, they have a potential get a good young tight end and one of the best names in the draft.  I think the Cowboys get lucky and end up with a great pic.
  1. Cincinnati Bengals
  • Team Needs: QB, LE, LOLB, ROLB, LG
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: ROLB – Kasey Etienne
  • Thoughts:  The Bengals could be looking at Claibourne.  But Etienne is one of best outside linebackers.  You have him in them with Andrews, Njoku, Freiermuth.  He could run with all of them with little to no problem.
  1. New York Jets
  • Team Needs: QB, TE, RT
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: TE – Clay Rose
  • Thoughts: After getting Belfort, the Jets could be looking at the QB that skyrocketed the boards in Montra.  But, I think they’ll take Rose.  The draft is pretty talented at tight end and Rose is one of the best.  I like it.
  1. Buffalo Bills
  • Team Needs: RE, DT, LB core, RG
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: ROLB – Toby Parker
  • Thoughts: I still think Stockton could be a choice here.  BUT, I will say again, this Line backer group need to get priority.   Joseph Dixon and Parker gotta be the top 2 on their board at this point.
  1. Houston Texans
  • Team Needs: QB, LT, RG, RT
  • Madden Projected Pick:
  • My Projected Pick: RT – Andrew Peterson
  • Thoughts: The Texans need help on the offensive line.  They had a pretty good LT at one point. Again, I digress.  The Texans are drafting at 20, and they could get a great value pick with Peterson.  I don’t see him having above a star dev, but he’s going have some of the best attributes at RT.  Good value pick.

So, there we go.  2 More mock drafts left.  I thank you all for your time.

(note:  I have to go back in and edit this when Madden puts their mock draft picks in, I'm aware)
