TOFN Draft Recap

Today, we are going to review the draft vs my mock draft. Was I right? Was I wrong?  We all know this was a shitshow by EA, but lets review.

1.       New York Giants

·       Projected Pick: QB - Joe Allen - 76 OA, Normal

·       Selected Pick: QB - Joe Allen - 76 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts:  It was the most obvious pick in the draft.  I think I nailed it, even if there was better Dev QB in the draft.

2.       Pittsburgh Steelers

·       Projected Pick: QB - Tim Fowler -74 OA, Superstar

·       Selected Pick: QB - Tim Fowler - 74 OA, Superstar

·       Thoughts:  The QB with the better upside, this was a safe guarentee for the Steelers.

·       Projected Pick: CB - Franklin Goodwin - 82 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: CB - Franklin Goodwin - 82 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:  The best player in the draft.  The Texans get a steal at 3.

4.       Cincinnati Bengals

·       Projected Pick: TE - Justin Peerman - 80 OA, X - Factor (or Superstar)

·       Selected Pick: TE - Justin Peerman - 80 OA, X - Factor (or Superstar)

·       Thoughts:  One of the most gifted rookies in the league, he will be an elite TE in 3-4 seasons.  

5.       Houston Texans

·       Projected Pick: ROLB Jason Neal - 74 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: DT - LaMichael Dobson 82 OA, X - Factor

·       Thoughts:  I was wrong, but I didn't see a Defensive Tackle going the top 5.  Texans definitely picked the right player!

6.       Seattle Seahawks

·       Projected Pick: LE - Brett Elsen - 79 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: DT - Jason Middlebrooks - 75 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:    This is where the draft went on auto.  I think Elsen was the better pick...  Good pick here, but not the best.

7.       Indianapolis Colts

·       Projected Pick: LOLB Josh Logan - 75 OA, Superstar

·       Selected Pick: LOLB Kyle Stephens - 74 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts:  I called the right position for the colts.  Just the wrong player.  Unforntunately the Colts are stuck with the lesser player.

8.       Carolina Panthers

·       Projected Pick: MLB Shaq Redmon - 74 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: SS Jason Thrope - 77 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts:   Although I selected the better player, I think the Panthers got the better player for their team.  I'll call this a tie.

9.       New York Jets

·       Projected Pick: QB - Randy Brooks - 69 OA, Normal

·       Selected Pick: RT - Jon Spears - 72 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts:  So, I'm gonna call this a win for me.  Even though Brooks has a lower OA, he was traded for a first round pick.  So, I think he definetly was the better player, for now at least.

10.   Miami Dolphins

·       Projected Pick: DT - LaMichael Dobson - 82 OA, X - Factor 

·       Selected Pick: RT - Larry McKenzie - 74 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts:  Dobson was gone.  I don't think RT was a need for the Dolphins, but Guard was. So, maybe the Phins auto GM thought it was the same thing?  Chalk this 1 up as a lost for me.

11.   Atlanta Falcons

·       Projected Pick: RT - Matt Patchett - 72 OA, Star 

·       Selected Pick: LE - Justin Camarillo - 76 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:  Both needs were very high. But, Falcons got the better player in the draft.  I guess I'll take the L on this one?

12.   Washington Commanders

·       Projected Pick: ROLB - Been Feeny - 76 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: LE - Sergio Spearman - 74 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:  Feeny was the right need.  But, both are pass rushers, so, it could be a toss. I'll take the win though.

·       Projected Pick: SS - Matt Thompson  - 72 OA, Superstar (or XF?)

·       Selected Pick: QB - Ben Baker - 67 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts:  Look, in my mock draft, I said, at this pick, I'm gonna drop off QB as a need as I don't see them going here, and to be fair, I don't think they would. Especially not one.  I'm gonna list this as a push.  

·       Projected Pick: LE - Sergio Spearman - 74 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: DT - Treymayne Lovelocke - 81 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts:  The 99 aware DT. Not only was Spearman off the board at this pick, I put DT as a position of need.  I'll take the win on this one.

·       Projected Pick: RT - Jon Spears - 72 OA, Normal

·       Selected Pick: RT - Matt Patchett - 72 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:  I figured Matchett would be off the board, but with him still there, the Jaguars get the better RT in the draft (not the best).  I'll take an L though.

·       Projected Pick: LG - Ty Blake - 72 OA Star (Or XF?)

·       Selected Pick: HB - Racey Bonds - 71 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts:  Look... at this point... no one got fucked more than the Bengals.  Sorry man. 

·       Projected Pick: FS - Brian Colon -  75 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: LE - Brett Elston - 79 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:  One the biggest steals in the 1st round.  Elston was a projected top 5, but Colon would've been great here.  I'll take the lost.

·       Projected Pick: WR - Bruce Bolden - 76 OA, Normal

·       Selected Pick: RE - Evan Parsons - 74 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts:  The need was WR, the pick was also a need.  I'll take my pick over Maddens, though

·       Projected Pick: CB - Evan McNair - 75 OA, Normal

·       Selected Pick: DT - Dom Webber - 78, Star

·       Thoughts:  I didn't have Dom as a need.  The Cards def got a better player than I projected.  

20.   Philadelphia Eagles

·       Projected Pick: FS - Malcolm Capers - 73 OA, Normal

·       Selected Pick: FS - Brian Colon - 75 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:  With Colon falling, the Eagles get a better play at a position of need.  Great job!

·       Projected Pick: RT - Mike Chambers - 73 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: RT - Nick Beverly - 64 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts:  Jesus, the Fox brothers did not have a good draft.  What was the GM thinking????

·       Projected Pick: LE - Rob Mellon - 73 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: MLB Shaq Redmon - 74 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:  I didn't see Browns with a need at MLB nor did I see Redmon dropping this far.  Great value pick!

·       Projected Pick: LOLB - Jeremiah Carradine - 75 OA, Normal

·       Selected Pick: RT - Mike Chambers - 73 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:  Right Tackle was a need.  Mike Chambers SHOULD'VE been off the board here. Another steal.

·       Projected Pick: SS - Travis Thomas - 78 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: FS - Daniel Thomas - 74 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts:  Okay, what happened here is the Packers Selected Travis, but some chick scratch hand writing caused the Packers to draft Daniel.  What a mess.  

·       Projected Pick: LT - Travis Clements - 73 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: LOLB - Max Barnett - 74 OA, Superstar

·       Thoughts: Once again, I had LOLB as a need.  Jets drafted a great player!

26.   Kansas City Chiefs

·       Projected Pick: RE - Chris Barker - 73 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: RE - Chris Barker - 73 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:  This... was the easiest pick in the draft.  

27.   Tennessee Titans

·       Projected Pick: LE - Rob Mellon - 73 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: RT - Evan DePofi - 74 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:   My first blunder. I projected 2 teams to grab Rob Mellon.  I'll 100 % Take an L 

28.   Indianapolis Colts

·       Projected Pick: RG - Julian Lamb - 75 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: CB - Evan McNair - 75 OA, Normal

·       Thoughts: I don't see the need for this pick.  Lamb was a need, CB was not.  The auto draft gets it wrong.

29.   Tennessee Titans

·       Projected Pick: LOLB - Max Barnett - 74 OA, Superstar 

·       Selected Pick: LT - Brad Johnson - 73 OA, Superstar

·       Thoughts:  Max Barnett off the board, the Titans need of OT gives them on the best potential ones in the draft.  Sheesh.  Great pick

30.   New Orleans Saints

·       Projected Pick: ROLB - Duane Thompkins - 75 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: RG - Julian Lamb - 75 OA, Star

·       Thoughts: A need at Guard was filled.  I don't see this pick happening if we had a real draft, but it was definetly the right move by the Auto Draft.

31.   Carolina Panthers

·       Projected Pick: WR - Lance Dobson - 75 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: RT - Brett Reede - 72 OA, Star

·       Thoughts:  Take a good player at need position, but I don't think it was the right call.  I think Dobson would've been a better pick.

32.   Miami Dolphins

·       Projected Pick: LG - Frank Marshall - 72 OA, Star

·       Selected Pick: CB - Richard Tomlinson - 76 OA, Superstar

·       Thoughts:  The Super Bowl Champs stay getting talent.  Great value pick

 

Final Thoughts:  So, this draft wasn't something anyone expected.  The top 4 picks went as expected, but then shit went crazy with the desyncing.   A lot of good talent was skipped over, then allowing some of the best teams to get them.  The Bengals and Ravens definetly had the worse first round.  Seahawks and Panthers had some of the best.

Disclaimer:  Please understand, I'm doing my comparison against what DL currently has listed as the draft.  When I went to look at some people, they didn't match their drafted postion.  I did my best with what I had.  Thanks everyone!
