Bengals Write Up
Coaches/GM: Andy took over a Bengals team that needed some work. However, they had some nice pieces to start with, including Burrow, Lawson, Mixon, and Bates to name a few. He just needed to continue to build around them and progress.
Success: Andy and the Bengals didn’t have much in ways of early cycle success but he has turned it on lately. Last season Lawson broke the single season sack record while leading the Bengals to a playoff berth. As long as Lawson keeps doing what he does and the Bengals manage to replace a retired Michael Thomas expect to see them competing the rest of the cycle.
Strengths: The biggest strength is Carl Lawson and that defense . Lawson is a wrecking ball and one of the most feared players in the game right now. Another strength that helped Andy into the playoffs last season was ball control football. He cut down on sacks taken, and turnovers and just played keep away from the opponents. Instead of forcing the ball on 3rd downs he would get yardage and play field position. That is a big step for any coach.
Weaknesses: Team management.Outside of Joe Burrow, the safeties and Lawson. I can’t pinpoint a position or player that had developed on this team. I think if Andy developed a few more players over the cycle I think the team would be scary.
M22 Prediction: If Andy can get a team and make sure to develop the pieces and and hit on a draft pick or 2, maybe work on making trades where he is the clear winner he could be competitive next cycle.
