Sam Darnold Aftermath
This offseason was a wild ride for Sam Darnold and many teams surrounding him. Following a major CBA violation the Saints were forced to cut Darnold, greatly impacting their draft plan, season and future. Many teams were hoping a decision would be made much earlier however, it came merely minutes before the draft. Here we will visit the teams and how they were affected by this situation.
Saints: This situation looked extremely bleak for the Saint as they lost their franchise quarterback right before the draft. This is also the weakest QB class we have seen in over 5 years. The Saints were fortunate to land Benji Watson with the 18th overall pick. This kid out of USC came to play in his first game as well. Putting up a solid 15-24 for 229 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Rams: The Colts must have loaned them their lucky horseshoe as the Rams missed out on every FA qb this offseason after Russell Wilson retired. Then low and behold Darnold his FA and accepts a one year deal with the Rams. Are you kidding me? The Rams weakness in the past has been their offense and now they have an elite talent in his Prime. Darnold made his debut last night against the Seahawks and balled out. Going 24-30 for 307 and 2 tds leading his team to the win.
Jets: The Jets sent their starting QB packing in the offseason in hopes of acquiring one in FA. They managed to do that in acquiring Journeyman QB Carson Wentz. Wentz will certainly be an upgrade over Harris. But rumour is the Jets were very interested in bringing Darnold back to New York but were unable to get a deal done. It will be interesting to compare the progress and success of these 3 qbs this season.
