The King's Declaration
As the Steelers gear up for the AFC title game tonight against what seems to be a much one sided rivalry with the Denver Broncos. There have been rumours swirling around the Steel City, as pieces may be on the move. Coach Scott and crew have done a good job keeping the core of this team together over the years, they have even added key pieces that have been vital to Pittsburgh's success.
2 Guys holding down the defense over the years have been Minkah Fitzpatrick and Devin Bush. They have seen a lot of changes around them but they are the heart and soul of this team. Every year we have come to expect to see Minkah leading the league in interceptions. He even broke the record back in 2024 with 16 interceptions and came out and tied it in 2025. He is now the career record holder of interceptions as well. Holding down the middle of the field has been Bush who is always top 10 in tackles, deflections and sometimes even interceptions at the linebacker position. Without these two guys being rocks for the team who knows where they would be.
As for newcomers on the defense that have helped solidify the team who else is there to talk about than Chirs Jones and Brian Burns. Jones was brought to Pittsburgh after 3 mediocre years in Kansas City. The Chiefs decided they needed to move on from him after posting 21 sacks and 70 tackles over 3 seasons. With the promise of glory in his future Jones has signed multiple extensions with Pittsburgh that have seen him make north of 20 million every season. Since his arrival in 2023 Jones has posted 5 consecutive years of at least 43 tackles, 15 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. At this point he may be one of the most hated and feared DTs in the game. For the other half of the Dynamic Duo Brian Burns after 2 seasons in Carolina where he averaged 6.5 sacks a season, since then he has averaged over 12 sacks a season. Combining him with Jones, these men averaged 27 sacks a season. Throw in the guys that have been around them, like Watt, Bracket and now the Rookie Weston this front 4 has been Terrifying!!!
However, the revolving door this cycle has been the CBs. They have come and gone faster than the NFC playoff hopes. Rumours out of the Steel City are that this offseason are no different. As the team doesn’t seem to be resigning Flowers, and they may just be sending 2 other corners away to other teams and go with the staple of young guns they have. Will it work or will they regret this going forward.
