My All Time Defense

Coach Jim's All Time Defense

In this article I will build a defense of all of my defensive players that I have had over time. Since I have played both a 3/4 and 4/3 defense we will build this defense with 4 Defensive Lineman, 4 Linebackers, 3 Corners, and 2 Safties. With all that being said lets get started. This will not only inlcude players I have drafted, players like Jalen Ramsey who have played for me are defintley in the conversation.

Defensive Line

DE Myron Boone Dolphins M20 -- Everyone in Redzone should know who Myron Boone is, he was drafted in our first draft of Madden 20 and the arguable best player in the class fell to me at 6.  Boone was quite early on his career, orginally really stout against the run I continued to turn him into a power rusher to be feared. All that development turned him into a 50 sack stud towards the end of last cycle and a player that no one wanted rushing against thier passer.

DE Harmon Forbes Dolphins M17 -- A pair of Dolphins from different stints book end this fantasy defense. Harmon Forbes was the pick I recieved from Adel the following year after I traded him the 3rd pick. Amazingly both Bram Schilling the player Adel picked in the first draft and the Forbes the player I picked with his pick the following year won defensive rookie of the year. Forbes was stout against the run and would compliment Boone's pass rushing perfectly.

DT Aaron Donald Rams M21 -- Donald is a hybrid DE/DT and has been an absolute joy to have this cycle. Aaron Donald is the perfect mix of insane pass rusher and about the most stout run defender a coach can ask for. Donald is the heart and soul of any defense he plays on. Could you imagine trying to decide whether you should double Aaron Donald or Myron Boone? I am sure the 31 other coaches in the RZ are happy they don't have to make that choice.

DT Devonte Rainey Rams M21 -- This guy is an aboslute stud man, he does everything well and it near the top in terms of being the best players in his draft class (see my article on that draft class for more info). He will be the guy who eats up a double and still makes a tackle for loss, just ask Derrick Henry how he feels everytime he plays against this giant athlete. Rainey would be the absolute centerpiece of this defensive line to compliment everything else around it.

Linebakers

OLB Felix Herron Dolphins M17 -- Felix Herron was once the number 2 pick in the draft, and he was one of the most freak athletes I have ever seen playing the linebacker position. He polished his game over time but that speed allowed for a lot of flexibility within our defensive scheme for covering tight ends and running backs. He also was no slouch rushing the passer for someone whose job was not to do that primarily. One of the best run defenders from a linebacker position you could ever ask for.

OLB Jerome Baker Dolphins M20 -- I took Jermoe Baker from a normal dev mid 70's player to arguably being the best non pass rusher XFactor in the league. Baker was an excellent zone defender and could stop the run with the absolute best of them. He was always the type of guy who made up for another mistake and limited our teams turmoil on bad plays. He hit about as hard as any linebacker I have had on top of that and was great at forcing fumbles.

MLB Bobby Wagner Chargers M16 -- I once took a boat load of picks early on in my Redzone tenure and traded them to Blueprint for MLB Bobby Wagner. Wagner fit seamlessly into my 3-4 defense at the time and wreaked havoc on opposing offenses. With a solid group up front Bobby was always in the top in terms of tackles in the league. He would be an instant fit to this defense in need of good tackling and a thumper.

MLB Dieon Jones Falcons M18 -- Dieon Jones was one of the first smaller hybrid linebackers that has taken the league by storm. Jones could do it all, tackle, hit, cover, and occasionally even hit the A gap and take down the quarterback. Jones was a member of my Faclons defense and the centerpiece of what I did there. Lots of times he would make up for a mistake made by another slower linebacker while driving the opposing offense crazy in the process.

Secondary

CB Jalen Ramsey Rams M21 -- What else can I say about Jalen Ramsey that you don't already know? He is an absolute stud and one the best cover corners a GM in this league can ask for. Ramsey would lead this secondary and as a true number 1 corner. He is arguably the most talented defensive back I have ever had the pleasure of being able to deply on my defenses.

CB Budda Neighbors Dolphins M20 -- This guy came at the end of the cycle but he was an XFactor dev with absolute amazing skills in terms of coverage and athelticism. He was also a big 6'1 corner and those are the type I tend to favor when looking for Corners. Neighbors would slide right into being the number 2 on this team and could shine in the postion.

CB Xavien Howard Dolphins M20 -- This guys was an absolute stud for me, has all the size and speed you could want from a corner. He was a number 1 guys for me and would terrorize slot recievers or tight ends if he had the chance to guard guys like those. He saw most of his action on the outside but Howard makes the final cut as my final corner in this defense.

S Keanu Neal Faclons M18 -- Keanu Neal was one of the hardest hitting players I ever had. He had the speed and converage ability to play all over the field no matter where I asked him to play. Most of the time that was on the deep half of the field and protecting against deep shots. Neal brings another level of toughness to this defense.

S Devin McCourty Patriots M19 -- McCourty was an absolute animal for me. Played up near the line of scrimmage and helped me win some games early in that cycle. McCourty follows the line of thining with Neal being a pair of hard hitting Safties to go with Wagner the thumper up front. McCourty was still talented enough to cover a deep part of the field against any player that he might have come up against.

Hope you enjoy my trip down memory lane.
