Kfox’s Way to Early RZ Mock Draft
*Draft order is generated based on the "Draft Picks" tab under the ream roster section.*
Here is a way to early RedZone mock draft. Running out of time I got a little sloppy with my grammer and write-ups but hope you all still enjoy!
#1 New England Patriots
RE - Kazeen Cloud - Wisonsin - 6'3 - 276 lbs
Defensive line is the worst looking unit on this Patriots team. It doesn't help that two of the best players on the defensive line are not under contract for next season (Frank Clark & Rashaun McGee).
This draft class is loaded with EDGE talent but Cloud sets at the top and is viewed by most as the best player in the draft. Selecting him will add a much needed presence along the line.
#2 Seattle Seahawks
QB - Matt Griffith - Texas A&M - 6'0 - 234 lbs
It's looking like the Hawks & Patriots will be batteling it out this season for the number one pick, right now now both teams are sitting winless.
The Seahawks new front office/coaching staff are entering full rebuild mode this season. The team is currently a nursing home with an average age of around 28-29 years old on the roster. What better way to kick it off than selecting the new franchise QB to be the heir apparent to Russell Wilson?
#3 San Fransico 49ers (via DET)
S - Jeremiah Hyde - Texas Tech - 5'9 - 213 lbs
49ers lucked out last season trading down with the Lions, now they currently hold the number three pick in this draft. Looking at niners current roster the offense looks set for years to come outside of the offensive line needing some upgrades. On defense the saftey position is by far the weakest link, both starters (Tarvarius Moore & Jaquiski Tartt) are both on expiring contracts and are not looking like they are deserving of an extension.
Hyde is on the smaller side for a saftey, I do not think he will be your protypical in the box saftey but I think he can have very good success in the NFl as a deep zone saftey with top notch speed and atheleticism.
#4 Oakland Raiders
RE - Chris Shields - Boston College - 6'6 - 270 lbs
On paper this team is a lot better than their record shows. Not a whole lot of needs on the offense side of the ball, the team could look to bring in a new WR to pair up with Henry Ruggs since four of their top five guys are on expiring deals. I look for them to fix that issue in free agency and instead look to shore up that defensive line in a loaded class.
Shields is arguably the best EDGE player in the draft. He is a very versitile player able to move anywhere along that front and have success. RE Brian Torrence needs some help along that line, drafting Shields will sure free up Torrence to start wrecking havoc.
#5 Miami Dolphins
WR - Victor Haden - Colorado - 6'4 - 227 lbs
Offensivly this team has got it going on, very little needs and star talent everywhere.
I have the Dolphins adding another big body receiver for QB Tua Taovailoa. Preston Williams spent most of last season hurt and he's not getting any older. Williams has only had one season with 50+ catches in his 6yr career.
Haden is the perfect replacement for Williams, big body and very athletic.
#6 Buffalo Bills
LT - Alex Marshall - Michigan State - 6'4 - 336 lbs
Josh Allen needs some new protection in Buffalo, he has been sacked a total of 14 times so far this season which is unacceptable.
Selecting LT Alex Marshall allows the team to move on from T Dion Dawkins who is on an expiring contract and has not progessed much through his 8 year career. Marshall is the sure fire top offensive lineman in this class.
#7 Los Angeles Rams
WR - Luis Colon - Auburn - 6'3 - 222 lbs
This Rams team has been searching for their franchise QB for years now, and it looks like they will be missing out on one yet again forcing them to go the best player available route. I feel like this team's success relys on the the defense and with Aaron Donald turning 35 this next year I almost mocked his replacement but instead went with a WR due to an aging unit there.
Selecting Colon adds some youth to this old WR unit. Mike Evans, Cooper Kupp, and Devante Parker are all going to be 33 years old next season. This team needs to be ready when they finally find their franchise QB.
#8 Chicago Bears
DT - Sidney Haywood - Virginia Tech - 6'4 - 317 lbs
I do not expect Chicago to bring back DT Eddie Goldman this offseason. From what I can tell it looks like he was hurt the last two seasons or he just under performed that much.
Selecting the best interior defensive lineman in the draft is a a safe pick for the Bears. Haywood has great athleticism and stregnth for his size and should be able to slide wherever the coach wants along that front.
#9 Minnesota Vikings
HB - Dwight Miller - Virginia Tech - 5'11 - 208 lbs
The Vikings have rode on the back of Dalvin Cook for the last 8 season, I think it's time for the team to look forward in a new direction. Cooks will be 31 next season and will be asking for a lot of money.
Dwight Miller is the best back in this class, his play style is very similar to Cook's so the Vikings coaching staff should love that!
#10 Cincinnati Bengals
LG - Gavin Hedgecock - LSU - 6'3 - 321 lbs
The Bengals could go multiple routes this draft, I have them going best player available and seleting G Gavin Hedgecock to come in and replace againg DJ Fluker.
Playing in a tough user d-line division the Bengals can't go wrong on improving that weak offensive line in any way that they can.
#11 Green Bay Packers
HB - Dwayne Stockton - SMU - 5'11 - 185 lbs
Almost the same situation as division rival Minnesota Vikings, the Packers have rode on the back of HB Aaron Jones for the last 8 years. Jones will be 31 years old this next season and also on the last year of his deal.
In a division that's always up for grabs you can't go wrong with bringing in offensive talent to score more points. Stockton is a little smaller than the typical running back but his speed and athleticism is top notch.
#12 Jacksonville Jaguars
RE - Josh Walters - Penn State - 6'4 - 275 lbs
The staff in Jacksonville has developed this defensive unit really well over the years. I look for them to continue building towards the success of this defense. Yannick Ngakoue is 30 years old and on the last year of his contract for a team that is strapped for cash I look for them moving on from him after this season.
Who better to to replace Yannick other than EDGE defender from Penn State Josh Walters? Walters isn't as athletic as Yannick but he does have a way bigger frame and more stregnth. Walters is the second player on the default big board rankings so this is very good value.
#13 New York Jets (via PHI)
HB - Tyrone Crockett - Oregon State - 5'11 - 203 lbs
I am not sure what's going on in the Jets running back room but the top three guys will be over the age of 31 next season. Sure to some running backs don't matter and they may not to the Jets user. But I am still new and don't know everyone's views just yet.
I think it is time to find a new running back. The team has a young QB, nice WR's, and an okay offensive line so why not look to evolve that offense?
#14 Cleveland Browns
RT - Damien Crisp - Nebraska - 6'5 - 317 lbs
Every position on this Browns offensive line could be upgraded except LT. The Browns play in a tough user d-line division, you can not go wrong with any offensive line pick here.
Drafting Crisp allows you to let go of 33 year old RT Rob Havenstein and plug him in immediately there. Crisp also played every where along that Nebraska oline so the Browns can kick him inside if needed.
#15 San Fransico 49ers
TE - Rick Ford - Washington - 6'5 - 235 lbs
Retirement rumors are stirring up about George Kittle who will be turning 32 years old this offseason. Kittle has been such a BIG part of this niners offense, he has amassed 1,000+ yards each season of his NFL career exepct for two.
The front office couldn't be more excited with the number one tight end in the draft still avaiable at pick 15. Ford can do it all from blocking to lining up out wide, he has great hands and athleticism for his size.
#16 Tennesee Titans
LE - Jason Burnett - Wisconsin - 6'1 - 262 lbs
The Titans have a really well built roster and are in a great spot to draft best player available here or trade down. Since I am not doing any trade downs I have them selecting the 7th ranked player on the default draft board in pass rusher Jason Burnett.
Burnett is smaller than what the Titans like on their defensive line but I think this could be a good thing for them to add a little versatility.
#17 Dallas Cowboys
CB - Najee Barlow - Purdue - 6'1 - 194 lbs
The Cowboys staff would love to find their new quarterback here with Dak's contract expiring. They are going to have to look elsewhere for that since there isn't any QB's worth drafting available.
The team cannot go wrong with selecting Purdue's star cornerback Najee Barlow. Chidobe Awuzie is on tha last year of his deal and will be 31 years old this offseason. In a division that has Stephon Diggs, Terry Mclaurin, & Darius Slayton Dallas needs to stay on top of keeping that secondary top of the line.
#18 New York Jets
TE - Marco Burke - Californa - 6'2 - 245 lbs
Five picks before this I had the Jets selecting their running back of the future now I have them going offense yet again by selecting TE Marco Burke from Cali.
Zach Ertz is most likely retiring this offseason leaving a big hole on that roster. Burke has great size and can block very well which is a great sign for their new runningback.
#19 Seattle Seahawks (via TB)
LB - Michael Fox - Columbia - 6'2 - 228 lbs
I have a very hard time seeing Coach Fox passing on his own son Michael Fox from the University of Columbia. Seattle will be in full rebuild mode for the next few years, they selected their franchise QB with the second overall pick so they cannot go wrong with picking a possible defensive leader on the opposite of the ball.
#20 Washington Football Team
LB - Danny Woodard - Flordia - 6'4 - 246
This Washington Football Team roster is top notch around the league, very few holes. Linebacker has to be the weakest leak looking at it on paper.
I have them selecting LB Woodard out of Flordia to come in and be the new middle linebacker on this already stackecd defense. Anthony Barr & Shaq Thompson are getting old and are not the answers looking forward.
#21 San Fransico 49ers (via KC)
DT - Joel Anderson - Michigan - 6'4 - 291
I am getting tired writing about this 49ers squad.
With their third pick in the first round I have them selecting DT Joel Anderson from Michigan. This pick might be a little bit of a reach but this allows the team who is VERY strapped for cash to move on from interior defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt.
Anderson is a great 3-tech interior guy who should have no problem playing beside star player Nick Bosa.
#22 Atlanta Falcons
LE - Layne Godwin - Iowa State - 6'2 - 264 lbs
Atlanta two staring pass rushing outside linebackers are both on the last year of their deals. I don't see the staff bringing one of them back in the offseason.
Layne Godwin should be able to transisiton from 4-3 end to 3-4 outside linebacker with ease and plug into a starting role no problem. Godwin is also the 8th ranked player on the default draft board so this is very good value if he truly falls this far.
#23 New York Giants
CB - Isiah Fletcher - LSU - 6'1 - 192 lbs
The Giants have a lot of expiring contracts in that cornerback room with only one player under contract past next season.
Fletcher is a great corner who can come in and play in the number one spot in a division with some nice wide recievers. He went up against great competition playing in the SEC so he seems to be very pro ready.
#24 New Orleans Saints
LE - Cordale Meekins - Flordia State - 6'4 - 271 lbs
This roster has been lacking a top EDGE threat for a few season now. With Christopher Logan on the last year of his deal I do not see the team retaining him since they are in bad cap trouble.
Meekins really became big name in Flordia playing in the SEC, I see him coming in and starting day one on that defensive front.
#25 Indianapolis Colts
RE - Matt Gholston - West Virginia - 6'4 - 265 lbs
Just like the team above in this mock draft, the Colts have lacked a talented EDGE player for some time now. The Colts offense is STACKED but that defense is a little iffy.
Gholston may not be ready right away but eventually he should be able to come in and replace four year player Jonathan Bowden on that line and provide some nice pressure up front.
#26 Los Angeles Chargers
WR - Grant Hendricks - UCF - 5'9 - 184 lbs
Chargers traded away WR Keenan Allen early this season and have WR Mike Williams on the last year of his current deal, this leaves a big hole at receiver for this offense.
Drafting Hendricks would have me give the Chargers an "A" for this pick. He is one of the most explosive players in this class which would become a HUGE weapon for Justin Herbert. Doesn't have the size but sure makes up for it with everything else he does well.
#27 Baltimore Ravens
S - Antonio Frazier - Michigan - 6'0 - 212 lbs
Saftey is looking like one of the biggest needs on this roster if Malik Hooker & Landon Collins are not resigned this season.
Frazier is your more balanced saftey who can do it all... and well!
#28 Dallas Cowboys (via HOU)
LB - Joshua Harriott - Oklahoma - 6'2 - 250 lbs
With this pick the Cowbosy continue adding pieces to their defense by selecting Joshua Harriott from Oklahoma. I had them selecting a starting corner with their first pick in the first round and Harriott has the potential to come in and start right away replacing Jaylon Smith if he is not resigned.
Harriott is a true 43 pass coverage linebacker who has the ability to run sideline to sideline with ease adding much needed athleticism to this defense.
#29 San Fransico 49ers (via PIT)
CB - Travis Peters - Stanford - 6'3 - 181 lbs
So far the niners have selected a S, TE, & DT in this mock. Selecting Travis Peters from Stanford adds more youth to this defense.
Stephon Gilmore retirement rumors are starting, so bringing in Peters is a solid choice.
#30 Carolina Panthers
CB - Edward Spence - Texas A&M - 6'3 - 184 lbs
In a division that is loaded at the wide receiver position drafting Edward Spence is not a bad idea if they want a chance to continue their success.
Spence could start opposite of star Donte Jackson potentially replacing Chris Robertson since he is on the last year of his deal. Even if they do decide to resign Robertson its still not a bad idea drafting Spence.
#31 Denver Broncos
DT - Nate Gardner - Alabama - 6'4 - 304 lbs
The Broncos EDGE defenders are great but the interior line could use another piece to go alongside Terrelle Bozeman.
Gardner is your typical 3-tech DT who plays wih great size and power. Can't go wrong with an Alabama defensive lineman.
#32 Arizona Cardinals
LE - Isaac Weston - Texas A&M - 6'5 - 275 lbs
The Cardinals have a couple expiring contracts along that defensive line which isn't a top unit on this squad anyways.
Drafting Weston from Texas A&M brings in an immediate starter to this front adding some more versatility.
