How to lose your job in free agency…

by TheodusTheGreat | 4 years ago | 0 Comments

The Green Bay Packers made a big splash this offseason by trading away the heir apparent to Aaron Rogers, Jordan Love, to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and adding DeMarcus Lawrence to their defensive line. The Packers were also able to add some depth to their offensive line as well as two quarterbacks who are likely to mentor whoever the Packers take with their 4th overall pick. But, one area of need the Packers have yet to fill is their middle linebacker position. This is that story…

With the onset of the free agency period the Packers had their eyes set on Alex Anzalone. They looked primed to sign the veteran when negotiations fell through as the Saints entered the picture. The Packers did not want to enter another bidding war for the middle linebacker while battling with the Eagles over the services of DeMarcus Lawrence. With that in mind the Packers pivoted their attention to Shaq Thompson.

The Packers brought out the red carpet for the 30 year old run stopper. Provided him with finest Wisconsin cheeses and perfectly paired wines. It looked as if the Packers would have their man. But there was a problem… Packers staffer, Allen Riggs, in charge of player background checks failed to learn Thompson has had some experience with lactose intolerance. Rumor has it that Thompson was turned off by the Packers failed research and decided to sign with the Super Bowl Champion Cardinals instead.

Word from Green Bay is that Riggs has been sent to work in the mailroom for the flap. As for the cheese that was given to Thompson who knows what was done with Wisconsin’s finest delicacy….
