Position Battles Season 62 LA Rams

QB: Jared Goff is our firmly entrenched starter at this point. The Rams gave him alot of money coming off of his MVP caliber performance 2 years ago. He will be the unquestioned starter until I decide to question his position. For now it would be too painful to garner a split from Goff so he will be our starter. John Wolford has the early edge over Bryce Perkins to be the backup. Wolford had a woeful game against the Saints but bounced back in a major way against the Chargers. The team feels this is about putting Wolford in positions to succeed should he ever need to hit the field during an important time.

RB: This is rookie Cam Akers job to lose. The 2nd round pick has been extremely solid in his preseason action, but there are a couple of capable running backs on this roster who will actually make the roster is a tough proposition. Malcolm Brown, and Darrell Henderson figure to jump into the picture in power situations for Brown and Henderson is a good all around back who can spell Akers in passing situations. This is a fairly young group that I wouldn't sleep on as an opponent.

FB: We don't use them in this offense

WR: Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods will get the majority of the snaps in two receiver sets. Vance Jefferson the rookie has played well in his preseason action and is set to take time from Josh Reynolds as the third option. Rookie Trishton Jackson is making a case he should be included on the 53 man roster with his play in the preseason. I fully expect this group to have two 800-900 yard guys in Kupp and Woods with Jefferson somewhere in that 500-700 yard range. This group can withstand some injuries which will be key as depth is proving to be a key aspect in this league.

TE: Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett will make it so I can run a bunch of two tight end sets and keep defenses in their base formations more. Both of these guys have proven that they can stretch the field when asked to, they do not however provide the run blocking that someone like myself would like to have. I expect us to operate out of double tight end sets alot more than the league average and these two guys will be the reason why.

OL: We are very young and green outside of Whitworth and Haventstien on the line. This will be the single toughest place for us to excel in season 62. This team is in need of help in the interior and will have to ride with a core of young players at the Guard and Center positions. How we handle this situation wil define our season because it will determine how well we can run and protect Jared Goff. I will make some moves and change players around if we are struggling here.

DL: Aaron Donald, that is all. Kidding, but he is really good. I fully expect Brockers, and Robinson to be effective. We have a fairly deep group here and it just needs to be put together from a play perspective. Donald is going to wreck games we just need the other guys to eat up blocks for our linebackers to eat. There really are no battles here as our starters are set in stone for week 1.

LB: Young players and unproven veterans define this linebacking core. We are extremely young in the middle and are hoping someone breaks out to prove they can handle the job. Outside we have journeymen type players in Lenoard Floyd and Samson Ekbukam who will need to prove their long term worth in getting to the QB this year. If they do not pass rush could be a must upgrae going into season 63.

CB: Outside of Jalen Ramsey we are looking for our second and third fiddles. I want to have an elite secondary and keeping Jalen Ramsey in town will be my number 1 job this offseason. We want to improve here but are happy with what we have going into this season. Our depth will be tested if there are injuries but I expcect this group to play physical man to man defense.

S: We are deep here. Taylor Rapp and John Johnson III are good young players that I can build around back there. We even has some wondeful depth if there are injuries back there. Johnson has been involved in trade talk to possibly open up a spot in the secondary for rookie Terrell Burgess (Burgess was hurt preseason week 1) but nothing has come to pass at this point.

Special Teams: We are set at Kicker and Punter. Webster the rookie wideout has won the kick return job at this point.
