Season 33 Draft Recap

by AST1N | 8 years ago | 0 Comments

Every team has their own individual needs and strategies. That is what makes this league fun and exciting. Some owners prefer to pick the flashiest guys with all the hype, some go for their team’s biggest needs, and others prefer to take the best available player at that spot. If we take a look at just the numbers and quality of players (ignoring how they are needed for that team), we can poorly judge how each team faired in this year’s draft. For this study, I looked at all rookie players rated 70+ and compared everyone’s work. Any trades or lack of picks were not accounted for, and that being said, these findings can be taken with a grain of salt.

Top 5 Winners

Jacksonville Jaguars – One of two teams to draft 2 Superstar players, they also boast a tie for the highest rated drafted player, and had two players above 80 OVR.

Denver Broncos – 1 player above 80, 1 Superstar, 1 Fast, and drafted easily the best lineman in the draft (Marrow).

Buffalo Bills – The other team to draft 2 Superstars, the Bills also lead the league in the number of players 75-79 (4).

Washington Redskins – 1 player above 80, 4 players above 75, and one Fast development, they also got a fast, complete WR in Enrique Glover.

Detroit Lions – While they did not get a lot of depth in the draft (or FA, frankly), they did hit on a few players, getting 1 Superstar and 1 Fast development player.

Top 5 Losers

Los Angeles Rams – GM Kelly was absent from the draft, so most picks were traded for Star MLB Luke Kuechly and LT K.J. Winters. The remaining picks were junk, and since this article is about players drafted, they find themselves in this section.

New Orleans Saints – Saints GM was not present at the draft, so whatever the CPU took for them was terrible. Best player drafted was a 71 OVR. At least the Rams have an aging 99 OVR to show from this draft.

San Diego Chargers – Only 3 players 70+ OVR and the best player is a 73 RT. If GM Tiko really did work for EA, he surely didn’t have insider access to the player creation algorithms.

Atlanta Falcons – GM Boone came in to a pretty stacked team, but did himself no favors in only drafting 1 player 70+.

Tennessee Titans – Only 2 players 70+ and the best player drafted was only 75 OVR. GM JP was probably better off drafting on AP the day before.
