THE HOT SEAT INDEX - SEASON 68

As we sit a little past the halfway point of Season 68, it's time to take a look at the teams who are clearly out of the running for a playoff push, or those who flat out disappointed us this year. Who should stay, who should go? Let's take a look at what coaches and players have the 'hottest seats' in Red Zone!

Seattle Seahawks (1-8)

HOT SEAT: Derrick Henry

Despite a fantastic Season 66 that saw Henry rush for 1400 yards and 14 touchdowns, the Seattle experiment has been a failure, as Coach Kaddy Shacks made a massive trade for the star running back, and was inherited by the young Coach Kentrell Fox.

Henry is 32 years old, is currently at 269 yards and 0 touchdowns through 9 games, and is receivng less than 10 carries per game. He has 3 years left on his massive contract extension, with about $15 million per year on the cap hit.

Seattle has shown they can pass the ball, and have put up some monster yardage numbers. Once they cut back on the interceptions (14 touchdowns to 34 interceptions) they will have more chances to compete.

Investing that much money in a running back who is in a clear decline, and in a committee, is foolish. I expect Henry to receive his walking papers this offseason.

HOT SEAT: Marcus Peters

Remember when I ripped this terrible contract to shreds when Kad signed Peters 3 years ago? Peters is now 33, making $12 million per year, and has regressed dramatically. In a rebuilding secondary, he has been moved down the depth chart, and has 1 tackle in 9 games this season. Peters will be on the chopping block this offseason.

Can we all agree that Kad made some very poor financial decisions?

New England Patriots (1-8)

HOT SEAT: Shaq Mason

Shaq Mason is still a really good player, so when I say 'hot seat', I mean that he is the last player on this offensive line with some value that the Patriots could get in return for him in a trade.

33 years old, still playing at a very high level, I doubt Mason wants to spend his final years continuing to finish last in the AFC East. If Glenn and this front office care about Mason's well-being, they'll ship him off for a mid-round pick.

HOT SEAT: Patriots Offensive Coordinator

I feel like this seat has been hot for awhile, probably since the beginning of the cycle.

What does this team do well on offense besides throw interceptions? They used to be a respectable rushing offense, but the departures of Marlon Mack & Sony Michel left massive holes at running back, and the offensive line has been neglected for far too long.

Despite an impressive group of weapons at the wide receiver and tight end position, the passing offense is consistently bottom five, due to the amount of turnovers. Is there a plan to make the system more quarterback friendly?

Coach Glenn needs to look himself in the mirror, this offense is broken, and has been for quite some time. Patriots fans deserve better!

Washington Football Team (1-8)

HOT SEAT: Gabe Peek

Weed, if you're reading this, I'm so sorry.

With the arrival of Coach Sin, Peek's production has plummeted. After a 40 touchdown rookie season, he has thrown for 20 in a season and a half under Sin, and has thrown 50 interceptions.

Peek's development has really halted, and I could see Sin moving off the 24 year old for his own quarterback. Someone needs to take the fall for this abysmal season.

Cleveland Browns (1-7)

HOT SEAT: Baker Mayfield

This is the most obvious one on the list, as Mayfield has already been put on the trade block, and his $35 million cap hit is set to come off the books this offseason. I don't see a way Mayfield is back in Cleveland.

The Browns will use their top five pick on a quarterback, and need to build their offense around the youngster. The defense is actually really solid, but the amount of turnovers the offense creates leads to short fields.

Las Vegas Raiders (2-7)

HOT SEAT: Andrew Gleason

If you have been around long enough, you know how things go for teams that are coached by Tiko Brown. Bad season = blame the quarterback. There have already been things thrown out by the Raiders social media team, and trade rumors that were floated around for the former #2 overall pick.

Gleason is almost a guarantee to be gone, and he will likely thrive in a new situation.

Baltimore Ravens (2-7)

HOT SEAT: Offensive Coordinator

Bill Harris has developed nicely, but he has gotten worse in terms of statistics each year of his career, with this being his worst. Harris has 1 more year remaining on his contract after this one, and the Ravens would be foolish to give up on him after giving away Lamar Jackson.

Something has to change with this offense, the Ravens are way too talented to be a 2-7 team, that is currently rolling out the 30th worst scoring offense in the league. A fresh playbook and set of eyes should be the goal for this offseason.

Tennessee Titans (3-6)

HOT SEAT: Defensive Coordinator

There are a ton of things you can point to and blame for the Titans poor season, with the regression of Rookie of the Year Marquel Elliott being atop that list. A problem in Tennessee has been their defense, and this year has seen a big regression.

Fresh off 22 sacks, Harold Landry sits with 6 total through 9 games, while his running mate Jeffrey Simmons has 2. The defense is in above-average for rushing yardage, but the passing defense is porous. The Titans won't do anything to change their offense, but they will shore up the defensive side.

Los Angeles Rams(3-5)

HOT SEAT: Christian McCaffrey

Christian McCaffrey does not do enough for the Rams offense to be worth the price tag. I certainly think there has been a plan in place to get him involved, and he has had a few nice seasons in LA statistically, but he is currently sitting under 4 yards per carry, and the Rams offense is as boring and slow as ever.

Getting a long-term starter at quarterback is a major need for this team, they have been playing musical chairs with Cam Newton and Russell Wilson for years now, they need some stability. The defense is way too good for this team to continue to finish under .500.
